Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

Look. The Rangers are a team that needs someone to save them from themselves. They loved Trouba and Goodrow in their room. They might have loved Kakko. Now they see the benefits of having those guys shipped out and bringing new ones in. I don't know if it's still the case, but Panarin got to say who he liked to play with. Fox has said that he likes Lindgren, the boat anchor, as his partner. These guys willingly choose personal feelings or personal motivations over objective performance.

Fox chooses being weighed down by a boat anchor playing hockey. Fox is a masochist.

5v5 Kreider-Zibanejad flat-lined and it's like the body laid there for 3 months before someone noticed the stench and they went in to pull the plug, remarking, "Wow, this stinks."

Not the same. That is for genuine anger at a comment. Tomato -- specifically a splat tomato -- means "boo, but yeah, I enjoyed it begrudgingly."
But I don't care about anything on here enough for GENUINE anger, and Oli is so ridiculous there, so if you see me post that, it means "boooo, but yeah, I enjoyed it begrudgingly." At least until such a time as "splat tomato" makes it's grand debut.

I want to give this post two emojis. I had to choose one. I would have also included the Olli.

Mods pls implement.

Plus, when Snowblind uses the Olli, he genuinely is angry.

If we trade Kreider for futures, I wonder the chances of seeing Perreault in that 3rd line LW spot at the end of the year

I am convinced Lindgren is gone by the TDL and replaced short term (this season) with a guy we get for like a 5th

It is also clear Drury wants to make somewhat of a splash to being in a top line forward who he likes to shape the team more towards his image

Brooks has always carried water for useless oaf defensemen.

At this point he’s trying to wish cast Lindgren into staying.

I do think an extension is off the table in that if it was going to happen it would have already. If they stay close I’d be shocked if they don’t self rent him. The coach clearly doesn’t think he’s a problem.

I hope they fall out of it enough where keeping him around isn’t an option. They can go on their miracle run post deadline when they’re 5 standard deviations better with out him.

Meanwhile, he'll shit on Kreider who I'm convinced is Adam Graves in a mask.

Back trouble at 33!! He's Adam Graves.

Kreider has been shit on by Rangers fans that think he has Eric Lindros skills and are mad he doesn't play like him. Just about every big forward without Lindros skill and every defenseman that doesn't play like Stevens (Miller) is enemy #1 with this fanbase.

Depends on how far BC goes. If the Rangers aren't in the playoffs it may not be possible. If they burn an ELC year by doing so I don't think they will anyway.

At “creating offense?” Most of us consider offense to be actual scoring… So no. They may be creating offensive CHANCES, but then they are also blowing those chances. The bottom line on “creating offense” is the puck going in the net. Mika has 1 pt at 5v5 in like 10 games. If anyone is spinning the stats here it’s you. Sure, it’s more encouraging than getting no chances, but no it’s not “creating offense,” it doesn’t win games.
Creating offence is exactly what win games hence Rangers record over the past 10 games.
The numbers that actually win and lose games:
49GP 9G 20A 29PTS -24+/-
16 points at EV...
1 5v5 point in 10 games.
Yup. Right in front of our eyes.
That is not near good enough.
If Mika had started the season with how he has played since the break we would all have a different conversation right now.
Iceberg Mika...all players sink once they come in contact

Sigh....

Panarin
Kreider
Smith

one of these three has to go by next year, and it should maybe be 2/3 or even 3/3. It comes down obviously to what you can get for them, how much or how little they're each giving you in the context of their respective cap hits, and how the org feels about the wings coming up.

To me the priority remains getting 1LD figured out. If retaining on Panarin to Dallas gets you Bichsel, then do it. The next need is C. If retaining on Kreider to Avs gets you Richie, do it.

Smith is a ufa. Did you mean someone else?

Canucks GM just did a big interview with their mouthpiece reporter. Tote the bandaid off the drama there and straight up said it is untenable between Pettersson and Miller. Seems like a crazy thing to put out there unless a trade is about to be done soon. This is a reporter that usually gets hand fed things to publish by the Vancouver owner even. Could very well be posturing to the fans before making a trade. I’ve mentioned how obvious it is that the Vancouver owner is obsessed with fan perception and that relation to ticket sales.

Every time I see that Kreider has 2 assists as a member of our top powerplay unit, I die a little inside. I know he's not known for his passing but he had 36 last year.

If he goes to the Four Nations it would be such a fraud move. He probably shouldnt have even made the team in the first place, but the country club permeates beyond the Rangers.

Trade for JT. Move Kreider in a separate deal. JT improves us in every area we are lacking(PP, top 6 finishing, leadership). Mika and Panarin are also playing for their Rangers careers imo and can and should be moved this summer if the trend continues.
So again, if we are moving Kreider, Mika, and Panarin, what the heck is the point of acquiring a 32 year old?

Yeah I just read that article.

Yeesh.

I know that he didn't really say anything that we didn't know but it's another thing to come out and say those things publicly. We already knew that he was bent over a barrel in the Miller stuff despite the Vancouver fanfic coming from their fan base and some of the other guys on this place wish casting Miller, Schneider or Lafreniere in a deal to Vancouver.

Him coming out and saying it is just bracing their fanbase for the inevitable.

Offense that GOES IN THE NET wins games. Not fancy stat chances...
AGAIN, Mika has 1 5v5 point in the last 10 or 11 games... I'm already HAVING a conversation about what he has been doing lately... and it's NOT good.

Again, yes, its more encouraging that the line is getting chances than if they weren't, but they are NOT contributing to wins. That and five bucks will get you a cup of Starbucks... The bottom line is they are generating VERY LITTLE offense that wins games... also known as actually scoring.

The numbers don't lie, and it's right in front of our faces.

Kreider would get a haul.

A 1st, significant prospect, and young roster player.

I've been trying to find a good candidate for a 'hockey trade' (Kreider for a 22 minute LHD) but almost every team that needs a player like Chris also badly needs most of their blueliners. Those that don't are in rebuilding mode.

Mike Matheson has had his offensive role reduced in Montreal thanks to the gangbusters rookie season of Lane Hutson. But he's still playing almost 25 minutes a game. They wouldn't trade him, and if they did, they'd likely want Lafreniere instead.
If any club has scouted Kreider .....then we might get a late first rounder and little else . I think it will depend on his effort or lack of it in the 4 Nation Event.....if he does well opening and closing the door to the bench /dressing room he might get that first rounder back.

He looks totally COOKED IMO and has outside of his tiny burst in Carolina last year .....myself , growing up on a farm , it is kind of like chopping the head off a chicken and then they take a big spurt running around the barnyard headless .....and then they drop ! It might seem harsh....but it is what it is ....the oven comes next.....he is COOKED !

Well I hope 31 GMs listen to Brooks and Drury does not. Lindgren for a 1st, baby! Lindgren for Buium! Lindgren for Silayev! Or my favorite deal, Lindgren inexplicably for all three.

Because you can't have a team of 22 year olds.

Peep the last 2 winners, they've skewed older. Florida wasn't brewing with young home grown talent. That roster was almost entirely put together via trades and UFA.

Same with the last 4 finalists.... Really basically every finalist between now and forever.

They should be looking for younger, long term solutions in some spots (1LD) but if you can get a bargain, you take the bargain no matter how old the player is.
