Schneider has shown so many glimpses where he snaps the puck up ice with a great pass and springs the offense, but he can't do it consistently yet. It makes me think he can be a good all-around dman and not just a defensive dman. It would be a mistake to move him this early unless the return is a great long-term piece, and I don't mean JT Miller.
I felt that way in the playoffs last year. Schneider was one of the better D against Florida and he was showing some offensive ability, especially on the breakout. The fact he could actually skate is probably a decent part of that.
He could be a solid 2-way guy given the opportunity and time to develop that skillset. You'd see an uptick in his offense playing with Fox, but I think it's how he adjusts to his off-side and if he gets the opportunity to take those chances.
I saw someone above mentioning Power...but that's a hell of a contract, and, for his size, he's not a physical player. I don't think the cost to acquire him (and the cost in the cap) is worth it. If Dahlin wasn't there and he got more PP time, Power's numbers would look flashier. He's a good offensive guy and can move the puck, but he doesn't have enough of a two-way game.
