I like the deal from the Avs end. Rantanen wanted too much money. I like Necas very much. Colorado can extend Necas at number less than $14M. The Rangers will be in the Avs position soon. Panarin has one more season remaining on his contract. What is the plan here? Re-sign him. Keep and allow him to leave next summer. Trade. Those are the options. I would trade one year remaining on Panarin's contract for a player with more term or someone we can re-sign at a lower number. I have zero interest in extending Panarin and would rather trade him. That is my point. Whenever someone discusses trading a player, you always write the Rangers aren’t rebuilding. The Avs aren't rebuilding by trading Rantanen. I don't want the Rangers to become the Bruins who need a major rebuild. They tried the free agent route with Lindholm and Zadorov to keep the team competitive. Both of them have sucked.
just looking at rangers cap sheet.. jesus what a mess. it's hard not to be negative.

Consider: Laf is on a 49 point pace, down from 57. his contract looked like a borgen, now more like an albatross. How is he going to fare without Panarin?

You absolutely have to try and convince Panarin to go to a contender as soon as this season. Do exactly what Colorado just did. Get a dynamic young center for Laf to play with, or a 1LD with top 4 upside. The sooner you trade Bread, the more you get. He's not extending for less than 8 million x 3 years. You just can't keep him around. Get him a Cup.

Mika is here for the long haul. Put him at 2C, try him at wing like Stamkos.. I don't believe they will move him.

Kreider has to go yesterday. He's reasonably effective, reasonably cheap (we'd retain) and a good brand name. A great Ranger. but if you're trying to win you need to assign higher salary numbers to dynamic players. Kreider isnt dynamic. almost no Rangers are - Chytil, Panarin, and Fox. Cuylle, Othmann, Perreault, these guys need a shot to play for real.

it's a mess and i believe we need to trade everything valuable that's not nailed down. Retool down the middle and on LD.

I'm positive we will not, though, and i think we'll double down and be buyers this year. it's an arms race in the east now.

Why are people posting trades that include Panarin and Zibs? Both are not happening this year as they arent waiving to go anywhere. Its a gigantic waste of time for you typing them and everyone else reading them. Its much better to read about trades that probably won't happen but still have a chance to happen however ridiculously small. You know guys that do not have a NMC or guys that will waive them. Zibs and Panarin aren't those guys.

Unless injuries destroy this team they will be in the playoffs and that means they are going to add. Panarin and Zib trades are crap that happens on your video games and not reality. Please accept that a rebuild isn't happening this year. I know its tough but its for the best. Take some copium if you have to.

I still can't believe the Hawks only got a 3rd for retaining 50% of Rantanen and trading Hall. I know he's nowhere near as good as he was, but he's pacing for 16 goals and 45pts.
It actually makes sense considering they would retain on Hall to trade him..50% on Hall for a 3rd which is basically a 2nd is a nice rerurn..

not only did the blackhawks get nothing back for hall they just punted a better chance at the #1 pick. we all know hall is a #1 pick magnet. slam the avs missing the playoffs and thank me later

Why are people posting trades that include Panarin and Zibs?
Because it's a message board where we speculate on possible trades. Just because neither is likely to be traded doesn't mean we can't speculate on trades that we believe would work.

If we're going to limit ourselves only to what we believe Drury will do, this might as well just wait for him to do it and then talk about it.

It’s not that messy.

I foresee Igor beating them again this year with Rantanen. Necas was their best player against us
I don’t know about beating Carolina, but I agree about Necas. They’ve been talking about trading him for years now and I’ve never understood it. He was always their most dangerous and creative forward. Maybe he wasn’t fully bought into the Brinda’plan?

I’m beginning to believe that it’s more important to have really good defensive depth than it may be to find a partner to play with Fox at something like $7m. I say that because the guy has been one of the best defensemen in the league carting around Lindgren. Here is what I mean:

If the options were Borgen + Orlov or Gavrikov + a veteran depth d-man I might lean towards the former.

If there is a way to ice a defense:
Gavrikov-Fox
Miller-Borgen
Vaak-Schneider
Veteran d

That’s probably ideal. And I’d go decently long term with Borgen, Miller and Gavrikov and feel pretty good moving forward.

Gavrikov at $6.5m
Miller at $4.75m
Borgen at $3.75m
Vaak at $1.25m

i'm not sure what Gavrikov wants, but those numbers to me are very low.

Borgen gets 5mm, Miller gets 6.5.
