Pretty damn good lineup. Fits under the projected cap of 92.5M for next season. I think ideally you'd like for Mika to waive this summer. But obviously you can't really bank on that right now. Maybe you push him over to the wing. Grab a cheap center and not worry about acquiring another winger. The center depth is strong here. There's a good mix of skill and jam throughout the lineup. Let Fox do the passing for K'Andre. Get a good vet to pair with Schneider. Same idea with Maatta next to Mancini. Perfect world, Chychrun leaves Washington and you make a run for him. That would really propel our D core. I like a number of the UFAs but under the right conditions. Pettersson, Provorov, Gavrikov - I'm fine with any... but the term and the dollars has to make sense for us. What I'm interested in likely doesn't get it done. We'll see. I'd be shooting for 5 years for those guys. Orlov would be a nice stop gap. He'll be 34 next year so you'll probably get him without the term. But how long does he hold up?

Thought I kept the trades/extentions/free agents fairly reasonable.

Cuylle and K'Andre got bridge deals. A Top 10 protected 1st, Chytil, Lindgren and Sýkora for J.T. Miller and a late pick. Kreider went to LA for a first and James Reeder. Vesey and Quick alone should get you some late round picks. Smith I think can get you a 3rd. Maybe you package him with Jones or one of the above for a 2nd? A deadline buyer might be intrigued by Smith + Quick for a late 2nd. There's a lot of teams with a weak RHD group. A team like Dallas has nothing, they might get desperate and cough up a 2nd for Borgen.

If the free agent market gets crazy and doesn't make sense cap wise I'd pivot to Utah and center a deal around Maccelli and EJ Emery. Likewise, if we can't land a D that makes sense parlay some of our deadline returns into Matheson from the Canadiens.

Even so, Carolina can forgo lottery protection on their pick but thats an empty perk because they aren't going to be in the lottery. Rangers pick even with protections is likely to be higher.

Kotkaniemi sucks balls but Chytil has a legitimate injury history. What are they more comfortable with? A player with a limited ceiling who at best is a garden variety Brandon Sutter esque 3rd line center who will play 700+ relatively inconsequential NHL games or someone with more juice and potential but is a hit away from never playing again?

Roslovic vs Lindgren is interesting because it's a classic case of a guy who is probably chronically undervalued in this league vs one who is overvalued. Roslovic's shooting the lights out and that isn't sustainable but he's a decent player. Lindgren is awful but GMs are suckers for GRIT and LEADURSHIPP! Roslovic should be worth more but I bet Lindgren would almost universally be held in higher regard.

The 2nd and 3rd tier prospects is where Carolina has a big edge. They have way more of those guys and theirs are probably better than what the Rangers have to offer.




Yeah if they trade for Miller it needs to come with further dismantling of the core.

Kreider for sure and Mika and Panarin if they're agreeable to it. I don't expect it to all happen over the next 6 weeks but it needs to happen by the summer.

You can not like the package but how is acquiring a 103 point player desperation? There are 31 GMs out there who would like to have JT Miller on their team.
Chytil, Lindgren, Sykora/Chmelar, 1st is a collection of broken and spare parts.
The Rangers excel at getting players for below market value in these situations (e.g. Nash, Gaborik)
Would be great if we can leverage the market and get him for less but it's hard to be mad at getting JTM without sacrificing any of our young future stars. I'm assuming we'll have reasonable conditions on the 1st since Drury reported shot down a deal that favored VAN. Would be an epic fail if JTM came in and that 1st turned into a top 10 pick.

I'll say this. JT Miller would certainly put a damper on Zibanejad's country club and make him more willing to move on this offseason and waive that NMC.

He did it so well in Vancouver that that they are ready to throw him out with the bathwater.

Btw, you never replied regarding the playoff performance thing. I am honestly curious how you came to that conclusion.

There are better options out there. Some GM will overpay for his “warrior” status and we can then slide in and trade for a more stable defenseman who isn’t flashy in any way but gets the job done and for less than what we Trade Lindgren for

I mean JTM was a homegrown guy to be fair…

Chytil never stays healthy. Have a hard time seeing a combination of Chytil/Sykora producing what JTM will over the next 3 years because that seems to be the focus of this management group. Add in the average GM shelf life is not that long in the NHL. They want to win. Many pieces are here. I am not feeling great about trading for JTM because of his age. But there is no denying his level of production and that at least 2 of those pieces will never amount to that production and the 3rd being a 22nd-32nd overall 1st round pick is unlikely to as well.

Unlikely but not impossible. I'd keep the cap wide open until we hear an extension has been signed. What a colossal failure if Drury blows all our cap space right before McD announces he's testing the market. He wouldn't do that for some time but again, until there's an extension, it could still happen.

Is this accounting for the salary that would be sent out? Because if Chytil is involved that 4.437+ added onto that total.

It's not enough, but this is why Zibanejad and Kreider are likely goners.

They have in house options at forward (Berard, Othmann, presumably Perreault) who can help off set some of the higher salaried forwards.

They need an actual f***ing game plan for the defense though. Thats going to be tough if they can't move at least 2 of the big 3.

Hope that report is false and Lindgren is in the deal too. Opens it to try and get a massive upgrade in that spot. They don't even need the player to be special, but just a top 4 LHD.

Marcus Pettersson has been playing extremely well for the Pens. They want to sell. That's the guy to go and get. I'd love Matheson, but Montreal is still in it.
