We all know this season is ending with a mid first rounder, but I do think some protection is necessary. At least top 3 protection. That said, the other assets in this deal are pretty easy to live with losing and you have to give to get.

If he isn’t the rangers would actually be sending out more salary than they’re taking back.

I’d rather not take back a D that Vancouver would be willing to move in any deal. The guys they don’t want suck.

I wouldn't hate Soucy as a depth LD for this year and next. Yes, he has his shortcomings but in Seattle he was a decent bottom-pairing physical d-man with size. One year left on his deal

I like him, but to be honest that was from years ago. He isn't doing too well in Van and salary considerations may be a part of it for not just this year, but next. Especially for the rangers. Also, Lindgren is younger than Soucy so maybe Van likes that.

Doom and gloom here and concoct the worst possible scenario but I don’t think people are being realistic with how stacked the deck is against this team to actually get in.

If they decide to hang onto Lindgren for the next month and a half, they will comfortably be out of it by deadline day.

It was Clayton Keller who did it recently.

Lindgren and Hughes never crossed over there but they did play together at the WJC one year.

If they needed that type of player on their D I'd be more open to it but they don't. Being allergic to D who can move the puck is not a winning formula and is probably the biggest reason why this team wasn't able to get over the hump last year.

Is he that much better than Vaak? Because Vaak is going to sign for for like half of what Soucy makes and is really good at being unspectacular.

If they're going to drop money on a D, it has to be on someone who is actually worth it or is a slam dunk bargain sign (see: Gustafsson, who half of this board hated bc he isn't 6'3" 220 but was a good player here.)

Fingers crossed. I have no illusions about this team. They're not doing anything this year.

I'm not advocating to clear the decks, but this year and next should be about a significant retool and moving away from this core of players. Lindgren, Kreider, Zibanejad should all go. Since Panarin's contract is up next summer, the pragmatic thing to do is to trade him also.

Actually, it is otherwise. People are overly pessimistic about their chances to get in. For example, moneypuck has them at 51% to make the playoffs and The Athletic at 38% yet according to this site people act like it's 5.1%.
