Anyone still believe we are a playoff team after this beatdown? We will be in the lottery and hopefully draft another beast forward in the top 5.

Weren't most of us wanting this ?

Youngest team in the league. Games like last night happen to young teams.

Question is how do they come out and play the next game.

And yes drafting in the top 5 ( hopefully ) or so is a plus to add to the core.

Faceoffs matter on special teams and in OT.

They are meaningless, in the aggregate, at 5v5.
That is because you choose to equate all of them. That is not realistic. If these are a bell curve, the offensive and defensive draws are a barbell. And there are certain critical situations that are weighed even more.

Unless of course you are saying that if you win the draw in the offensive zone and have the puck that your chance of generating an offensive opportunity are exactly the same as if the opposing team won the draw and has the puck. Is that what you are saying?

Andersson needs a reset badly. Spending a couple of weeks in Hartford won't be the worst thing for him. Nieves isn't an NHL player, but he can be called up to play 7 minutes a night instead of killing Andersson.

Totally agree. Andersson playing 7 minutes a night is a waste---send him down gain some confidence--worked with Chytil.

If he's going to only play under 10 minutes a game maybe he's better off as a trade asset.

Andersson for Pool Party is something everyone has said and seems to be a possible if this is the plan for Andersson development.

It seems that the Rangers decided that Howden and Andersson are bottom 6 players in the NHL and the better path is tô learn in the league, otoh they expect Kravtsov and Chytil tô be top 6 players so is top 6 for them in the NHL or the AHL.
Kakko is just a special case.

It's not the 7 minutes that harms his development. It's playing with a goon and a defenseman

This! There were plays even last night where he looked around made what we'd assume is the right pass and watched it immediately turn it over. When you play with someone who can't catch the puck, or is a sieve it teaches you the wrong lessons.

Hoping the Rangers keep Andersson but anyone think something like:

Howden and Gropp/Fogarty
For
Pool Party

Howden was a former 1st round pick same as Puljujarvi ( late 1st round ). Edmonton is known to be looking for a young checking center. Gropp big winger--real just a throw in to make Edmonton feel their getting some value. Same as Fogarty.

Edmonton has 2 weeks left to deal Puljujarvi or he's not eligible to play is there a better deal out there. Does a 3rd round pick mean more them those 2 players I proposed ?

I know when Mika comes back everyone will move down a peg so roll with:

Mika
Strome
Chytil
Andersson or Howden keep 1 and try to deal the other.

I know either Strome or Chytil can be moved to the wing but again Andersson and Howden as our 3rd and 4th line centers in not getting it done. Also no more Boo that's been tried multiple times.

Thoughts need more coffee or pedal to the metal.

No one was wanting this. But yes, youngest team in the league and these games will happen. All a part of the process of growing.

Don’t want any more dead space just sit him more s he wants a trade

Buddy, that's why I'm saying look at the numbers. Can't argue with the math. The options are:

1. do nothing = 5.7m cap hit and a dead roster spot.

2. We buy him out. 3.6m cap hit and an open roster spot. 1.06m cap hit in 20-21, negligible.

3. Staal waives NMC, we get him off the team @ 50% = 2.85m cap hit. That's not gonna happen though.

I think there’s more value to face offs than just what’s being measured here. It isn’t just about possession equaling shot attempts equaling potential goals. Possession chews clock. Possession makes the other team chase and tire. Even a face off win that results in zero shots on goal but 20 seconds of zone time and another face off in the offensive zone or neutral zone has value. Having the puck is a good thing. Making the other team play defense is a good thing. If you’re ~35% on draws as a team you’re chasing a lot. You’re on your heals a lot. Face offs tilt the ice a bit. Many things do. It’s just a part of the puzzle.

Again, no one is arguing importance of possession. But when it comes to being good vs. bad on face-offs - we are talking less than one extra possession on 10 tries.

At least Howden is in the league. Puljujarvi is not and has NEVER shown ANYTHING. Nothing more than Gropp straight up.
Puljujarvi is not because he's in a contract dispute.....through his age 19 season puljujarvi has produced at roughly the rate that howden has through his age 21 season (current)

Puljujarvi didn't have a great season last year...but who on Edmonton did when they weren't playing with mcjesus...maybe rnh...that's it.

Your right poor wording—I meant another high draft pick knowing this was going to be a year for the youngsters to learn.

Has a whole team ever been demoted for conditioning before?
To play devil’s advocate, we don’t know how many others were battling the flu. They certainly looked very slow last night and thats not how they usually play. They may run around in their own end like a chicken with their head cut off, but they at least have their legs moving. Last night they just looked like cones out there.

Hoping they get better and show up with a different effort tomorrow night.

It's interesting to see some of the similarities between Puljujarvi and Yakupov. Both taken very high with high expectations, and not living up to them.

Yakupov was traded after his 4th season with the Oilers for a conditional 3rd (the condition wasn't hit) and a C level prospect

This season is Pulujarvi's 4th with the Oilers

Now obviously Puljujarvi got bounced around more to the AHL, but I just can't imagine any team giving up a huge package to get this guy

yea I just want all of the money off in 1 year. A buyout carries over but I see it’s minimal so it’s not a bad option for sure

I'm starting to dislike Howden and feel bad for Andersson. Howden isn't particularly good, and should be playing in Hartford, but Quinn is trying to shove him down our throats just like AV did with Glass. The favoritism infuriates me... obviously nothing against him as a person, don't know him. Just saying I am getting really sick of him being on the team.

On the other hand, Andersson still got less than 12 mins last game. Rangers were getting blown out anyways, just play the kid. He's probably averaged less than 10 minutes the last 5 games. This is how the Rangers treat one of their highest drafted players in the last decade... Cmon... Lias might not be the most skilled or talented, but at least give the kid a better break instead of barely playing him and putting him with a rotating assortment of 4th liners and ahl lifers. I rather see McKegg, Haley, Nieves, etc. guys who don't really matter to the potential future of the team just play than what seems like Andersson's development suffering.
