Yes, but if you feel you're cup favorites, having an asset like that just sit on the sidelines is questionable.

I understand it from Nylanders perspective. He may see Matthews and Marner and knows that if he 'bridges' he will be traded or is not in control of his destiny. He may want a NMC or a long term/high AAV in compensation for that.
Rumor is he wants $7m per. Its just the money issue.

Toronto tied their own noose with the Marleau contract. I don't think the can resign all of their big 3 free agents and compete

I never said that Skjei is untouchable. Is his worth (as a 2nd pairing defenseman signed to a 6 year contracts) - 20 extra points up front?
20 extra points is a cheap way of putting it.

Were talking a bonafided top line winger. We have like 1 wing in our system. If we have a top 6 with Zibanejad, kreider and nylander that puts us in a really strong spot.

Not saying buch is bad but nylander is a significant upgrade. At that level upgrading costs more

Why are you keep putting arguments that no one argues. You called 20 points difference a "cheap" argument and then failed to come up with your own altogether.

Le me expand. Buchnevich has not even started to scratch his full potential. He seemed to respond well to Quinn's treatment and, again - not for the first time - he showed us glimpses of what he could become pretty soon. Thumb injury is not indicative of anything. Simply unlucky. After he comes back it's quite possible he shows that the difference between him and Nylander is not that significant. 15-20 points could be a very conservative estimate - it could be even less. Why sell low now?

So including Skjei in this trade could be managebable, but making it Skjei and Buchnevich creates an overpayment on Rangers part. Do you think not?

Toronto has all the leverage.... If Nylander doesn't sign he gets nothing. He doesnt gain arbitration rights or anything else. Nylander just becomes a year older.

Its not like theyre struggling without him. No rush for Toronto, other than to just quiet the conversation... Which won't really happen because they still have to resign Mathews and Marner
Toronto has this season before huge, massive raises come to Marner and Matthews. UFA for Gardner. Their cup chances drop next year because something has to give and their defense is iffy for post season hockey.

Dubas now has 8 days to sign and/or trade Nylander for his value depreciates big time. He won't get enough value in a trade for defense and he won't be able to play for this year's cup run.

What about Skjei + Zuccarello for Gardiner + Nylander?

Both teams give up a long term asset and get back a soon to be UFA. The Rangers can send Gardiner out later in the year. The Leafs could potentially replace Nylander for the next few years by resigning Zuccarello and replace Gardiner with a similar, younger LD who can help anchor their defense moving forward.

Yes, the Rangers might need to add Bigras or Lindgren or O'Gara etc.

Every argument you made for Buchs upside can be made for Nylander..

It is a bit of an overpayment, but something’s you gotta give to get.

Are you hoping Gorton has pictures on Dubas to go with that proposal?

Zuccarello was always a player who should be traded because of his contract situation. But let's not get into that, because before you know it we are treating him unfairly according to Norwegian newspapers

If you woulndt mind, could you link me to these articles that you have refeered to a few times cause I've looked and cannot find them. Thanks

Edit: besides one from 2011 that is.

Playing with Jesper Ortmeyer and Vladislav Namestcantscorekov will do that to you.

The board talked awhile back that these two are pretty similar utility players with Names having a somewhat better offensive game. Having one of these in your top6 line is fine however because of injuries Zibanejad is saddled with both and it’s easy to see that he needs Buchnevich back in place of Fast.

Respektløs behandling av Mats Zuccarello i New York

"Lundqvist is important to Rangers and Quinn made the right to visit him in Sweden. That's not what I responded to. Quinn ended up meeting Lundqvist, Mika Zibanejad and Jesper Fast while in Sweden.

At the same time, Mats Zuccarello was home in Norway. He lives only a three-hour drive from Gothenburg, but did not hear a word from coach Quinn."
