Regarding Zucc, would it be reasonable to think that dealing him at the draft, at 50% retained, should return at the least what Nash got at the deadline?

‘19 1st + top level prospect + young roster player/mid-tier prospect/3rd RD pick?

I don’t think so. I think you only get that at the deadline when a team is desperate and no better player is available.

Or Wahlstrom and Kotkaniemi.

FWIW, why has Wahlstrom gained so much popularity? I was gone for 2-3 weeks and it seems like everyone loves Wahlstrom now but we were cool on him before. Not that I’m complaining.

I don’t know what you’re talking about. A lot of Rangers fans have been on the Wahlstrom train for a long time now.

If the Rangers really like Farabee and Kravtsov and the draft unfolds such that it appears they could get both of those guys later, I’d trade down. The point could be made that:

Kotkaniemi or Bouchard alone << Farabee + Kravtsov

A great point and I would be on board with that, but who the hell knows what’s going to happen after 1 & 2 are off of the board ...

This is just an obscure cut off.

How much more valuable is the 31st overall pick last year and this year because now it's a "1st rounder"?

I think the consensus is that there is a drop off in talent after 10 or 12 depending on who you ask. That might be why he wouldn't want to drop out of the top 10.

I think the tiers are:
  • Dahlin
  • Svechnikov/Zadina
  • Tkachuk/Boqvist/Bouchard/Dobson/Hughes/Wahlstrom/Kotkaniemi/Farabee/Veleno
  • There from there is could be any mix of players into the 2nd round almost.

Honestly, wouldn't surprise me if it DOES cost more for teams to trade for it now than it did previously.

Okay, I just misinterpreted the post I initially quoted. I though you were implying that YOU wouldn't take JK because we took two centers last year. I now understand though.

Yeah, meant it more that WE would be chatting more about him as one of the more popular picks if we hadn’t taken Andersson and Chytil. Instead we’re looking elsewhere.

I still don't see lias being a center long term. He's a fantastic board player...and very good in the dirty areas...doesn't have the footspeed to play the down low game and be defensively responsible.

I’m going to leave it up to the coaches where chytil and Andersson play. I have it on good information they’re the ones who’ll be making the decision.

Looks like I'm in minority but I'd do Howden + Spooner for Domi in a heartbeat.

“If Oliver Ekman-Larsson doesn’t accept what we understand is a Coyotes’ offer of an eight-year extension in the neighborhood of $8 million per, the defenseman with one year to go on his contract will all but certainly be dealt at the draft. Ottawa’s Erik Karlsson, also a pending 2019 free agent, is expected to be traded, as well.
The potential availability of OEL and Karlsson on the market was a factor in the Rangers’ decision to move Ryan McDonagh at the deadline rather than to wait until the offseason. Again, though, it was Tampa Bay’s inclusion of Libor Hajek into the package coming back to New York that sealed the deal.”

But we should've gotten Sergachev!

We probably have the pieces right now to make an offer for Karlsson that doesn’t in turn cripple us. We also have a couple of big holes in our top 4. I think he’d be motivated to play with Hank and Zib.

Imagine adding both Karlsson and Kovalchuk to this roster.

Said it last week, but jumping ahead of the market probably worked out in their favor. They got really good value while they could before names like OEL, Karlsson, and Doughty took over the market.

If the board breaks like it did last year I might offer 9 to Arizona for OEL if the Rangers could extend him

Rangers are in no position to be handing out massive contracts on top of moving their highest pick.

Their focus should be on getting as many young cost controlled assets in here as possible. If the board doesn't break the way you want it to? Try and trade down and add more picks or if not, just take the highest guy on your board.

The only massive contract I can get behind is EK in a years time because he is the elite of the elite at his position and we will have had 2 full drafts worth of picks before even getting a chance to sign him (assuming he makes it to UFA and even wants to be here.)

Going back in time, that Evander Kane contract was...not encouraging. Especially if next year's another lottery pick, would they give something similar to Kreider?
