Kaliyev and Wahlstrom on waivers recently. Big bodies that have good shots and not much else. Both got claimed.

They clearly wanted him so he's going to get a chance. If they're selling off, Vesey and Smith are out of here. Kind of blocks Othmann, but if he can't tear up the A and pass Kaliyev, that's on him.

Seravalli trade board
#4 Ryan Lindgren
#17 Will Borgen
#20 Zac Jones
#24 KAM
Makes a ton of sense and really puts out there what value Lindgren has for other teams as a rental.

Someone is going to pony up a 1st for him and that's the trade you have to make. Ben Chiarot got a 1st/4th/prospect.

Wish Borgen was a little higher, but something tells me they don't move him unless they are blown away and go the re-sign route. Hope I'm wrong about that.

If they re-sign Borgen that blocks Mancini and I don’t think the rangers want to do that. Unless they plan on trading Schneider for a center or something.

If The rangers can get Borgen to extend in the low to mid 3s, it would be a good deal imo. He's a similar player to Mikkola who we should regret letting walk. My only hangups would be what the plan is with Fox-Schneider-Mancini in that scenario, and what the rental return is on Borgen. Im trading him no questions asked for a 1st or 2nd. 3rd and a 5th isnt moving me and I think he's a pretty quality player so far

1/7/25 SHITSHOW!

Rangers are 7th in the Metro. Tied with the Isles with 37pts.
The team is 19 pts behind the Caps who are 1st in the Metro.
The team is only 4 pts out of the #2WC spot in the Eastern Conf.
The team is 2pts ahead of the last place Sabres in the Eastern Conference.
By their record they are the 7th worst team in the NHL

MSG and Optimum are at a standoff so 4.6 Million Subscribers in NY can't watch MSG.

There is no clear and concise direction as to what the club is going to do. 2 Days ago Emily Kaplan wrote that Laviolette and Drury still have support from Ownership and will continue to "re-shape" the roster. The one small tidbit from a legitimate beat writer is this “A common theme for any players brought to the Rangers is going to be physicality. Meat and potatoes is a term I’ve heard the Rangers’ front office has used a lot lately.”

Forbes #2 Ranked organization is flatlining, and the brass at the top doesn't even address the media? 1.4 Million fans in the tri state alone. By 2023 attendance 732,000 people.

How is it that we have to just play guessing games on everything? Time for Drury to address the media. It's beyond rediculous!
You're making the erroneous assumption that management could care less about the fans....nor do they feel obligated to "address the media". As long as corporate sponsorship continues (and they make the playoffs), they'll be raking in the green.

The one "legitimate tidbit" says they want "meat and potatoes" players and then they promptly go out and make a waiver claim on a one-dimensional shooting wing who is known to be lazy. Just goes to show how much these writers don't actually know.

Hughes is clearly a better player but there is merit to this argument IMHO

Honestly in hindsight have been best if both Kakko and Laf started out in the AHL and dominated there first. The what ifs are thick and strong
Unfortunately Laf could never have started in AHL bc he came from CHL.

He was too good for CHL and struggled in NhL, so AHL really would have benefited him for like half a season.

But it is kind of rare for top 2 picks to spend time in minors. Most go to bad teams and are given a shit ton of minutes to work through their mistakes.

We said rebuild is over, time for playoffs. Vets are our priority and the Nhl is not a developmental league. You will be given no leash.

And yes hughes is a better player, but the hype Laf was right up there.

Also NJ played a good structured system under Brunnettes tutelage. They werent a good team per say, but there was a system that players were huying into.

We have not had a semblance of a system that players bought into since Torts. Maybe the first year or two for vigneault.

Quinn the vets hated immediately due to micromanagement, and tuned him out fast. Gallant just had no system bc he wasnt a good coach and basically admitted the x’s and o’s are not his forte, and Lav really is more of the same with Vets not buying into whatever system he tried to install.

Schneider goes with Mika to Vancouver for JT and they backfill RD with Borgen.

I'm not endorsing this course of action but it is a course of action that would be on the table. Everyone and their mother is reporting on the JT to the Rangers stuff. I love JT as @RangerBoy loves to point out but really not at the cost of anyone outside of Kreider, Mika, K'Andre types. Kinda hope it gets to the point where he demands a trade here only, as has been rumored. We'll prob still trade to much for him but at least he's a 100 point player.

"Every other team"

Meanwhile Montreal played Slafkovsky 12:13/game in his rookie year with his most common center Jake Evans. And Jack Hughes got less 5v5 time/game than Lafreniere did in their respective rookie seasons. Yes, he got more PP time but he was hardly given a big role at 5v5.

Joe Thornton and Nino Niederreiter are the obvious guys who were bad/barely got any ice time their rookie years. Didn't hurt them.
Hughs got 16 mins ATOI as a rookie. including lots of PP1, having quite a bit worse overall season than Lafrenierre did.
JH 61 gp 7g+14a for 21 pts, 3+9 for 12pts at 5v5 ATOI 16 mins, -26+/-
Laf 56 gp 12g+9a for 21 points, 12+9 for 21pts 5v5 ATOI 14mins, -7+/-

Then Hughes got ATOI of 19 mins coming off that year in his D+2. Laf got ATOI of 14... still no real responsibility, still no PP.

Laf STILL hasn't broken 18mins ATOI yet...

Hughes was given loads of PP and responsibility in his early years regardless of his bad play in his D+1, and mediocre D+2, if you don't think that contributed to his development I don't know what to tell you.
That's not to say Laf would be scoring like Hughes, just that he was NOT handled in anything close to the same way, and yes it is detrimental to his development.

Thread worthy.

It is bananas that news like this does not get its own thread. What is the point of this site? I come here for Rangers news, but when I clicked the Rangers tab, there’s not even a thread about how it’s been made public that the GM tried to trade one of the biggest contracts on the team. I have to instead either find this news from alternative sources, or try to dig deep in a buried thread here.

Mods, can we get some clarity on what is thread worthy and furthermore why this is not?

Confirmed news of a trade, waiver pick up, or firing/hiring of a coach to name a few. A trade that did not go through is Roster/trade discussion/speculation, which is this thread. thank you.

Im with you. We never discuss actual rumors from legitimate sources because the RBT is a "catch all" that gets 10 pages a day of people discussing if the Rangers can or cant develop players, whether or not we should trade Adam Fox or what Buchnevich and Kakko are up to these days.

Should keep in mind that Othmann has been out with an injury most of this year. He just came back a couple weeks ago. In 8 games he has 3 goals and 5 assists this year which is perfectly acceptable in a kind of low scoring league and from a player who has missed so many games.

If he hadn't got hurt he might be up and Berard not.

Also this year is kind of lost and the Rangers will probably be sellers at the deadline meaning that if Brennan can stay healthy he'll probably get a call up sooner or later. I'd also expect some others---Rempe and Mancini will get more games with us, Sykora and Robertson might.....maybe even Chmelar, Roobroeck or Garand.

Imo a Mika + 2nd or lower tier prospect makes sense. Miller is a wildcard, he could lead this team out of a funk or put them further into the deep.

Also, if we aren't gonna have Rempe in the lineup we need someone tougher than Carrick in there in place of maybe Vesey. Fat Maroon was making a joke out of this roster much like Wilson did a few years go.

I would not mind giving up a 2nd. We have Seattle's 3rd and that will be pretty close to the late 2nd round. Or we could try Mika, plus Seattle's 3rd and 6th. Basically make it a JT Miller and Borgen for Mika and KK trade.

This is very true, but it appears to be changing a bit. Since the Laf draft/COVID:
2021: Power back to college, Berniers back to college
2022: Nemec to AHL
2023: NHL for both
2024: Levshunov in the AHL
So 50% of picks not sticking in the NHL immediately
Whether it's teams recognizing that COVID messed with development, teams understanding there is no rush and the modern game needs differently developed skill sets, or teams learning from the Rangers handling of their picks, I'm not sure. But there seems to be less stigma about sending a high pick to 'lesser' leagues right now. We were slightly hamstrung with where our guys could go and what was going on around the world, but I do wonder how a slightly more 'mature' organisation who had experience with high draft picks would have handled Laf and KK in their early years.
