I keep seeing that Drury is an idiot but all he has done is trade Trouba and find a way to get rid of Goodrow without giving up any assets to do so and created ~$12m in cap space. I understand he's not batting 1.000 but c'mon people. Relax with that stuff and provide a nuanced take a bit

Igor extension is unforgiveable.

Of course they do. Players don't care about performance just their buddies.

The Devils practically remade their entire defense in two years. Hamilton, Hughes, Dillon, Pesce. The Rangers have Fox already. Miller is arguable. They have Schneider already. Even if they are just happy with Fox and Schneider, Drury can pretty conceivably rebuild their defense in quick order through a shrewd trade and likely 2-3 UFA’s. The more I look at Gavrikov and his underlying numbers the more I see someone who could possibly be a Mathias Ekholm-like fit in NY. He’s 29, not 35. Find a good value, short term veteran who can move the puck to pair with Schneider and you’re cooking with gas as soon as next season.

Gavrikov-Fox

That’s a good start and I’m still missing the guy I’m going to assume comes back in a trade.
And a real D core is 3, maybe in the rare case 4, Dmen. Not 6. No team has 5-6 core D anymore. It’s 3-4 guys with a bunch of rotating spare parts. The key is getting the right core guys that fit together then finding the right spare parts to rotate around them that fit into a scheme. This is what VGK, FLA, CAR all do and they’re successful despite constant turnover on the back end.

Which proves the point, NF -- the final decision is still Mika's as he could decide to spend 5 years in the press box just for shits and giggles. He'll collect his $40 million (?) and grow his DJing career -- best of both worlds if you think about it.
You are right about that but I feel that is unlikely. He worked hard to become a NHL player. I do not feel he wants to give up that identity so fast. Many pro athletes cry when they have to retire.

I’m in the same boat. Gavrikov would be a phenomenal add.

I don’t see KAM being moved unless it’s in a package for a young top2D or top6C.

what can we afford if Mika is still here? Mika and Kreider?

I still think the best case scenario for us, is to somehow swap JtM and Mika +. Don’t know if Mika would waive or if Vancouver would do it.

Gavrikov Fox
KAM Schneider

Lindgren to Gavrikov is a MASSIVE upgrade, which in turn should help Fox. Then get some competent coaching and we’ll get more from KAM and Schneider.

Provorov is enticing. He has all the tools and is still only 27.

Fixing the defensive unit has to be top priority. From personnel to coaching. It needs an overhaul.

It's a business we hear all the times these days. When I was younger I never heard that. For fans at least back then it was just a sport. Trades did happen then though as they do now.
You must have led a sheltered childhood. I was 7 years old when Mark Messier was a Canuck, 11 years old when Adam Graves was a Shark and 13 years old when Brian Leetch was a Leaf

Kreider for Gavrikov? Kings need scoring.

I see Fox and Miller having better summers, Schneider will still be Schneider, Mancini will be given every opportunity to make the team, and then there's gonna be one American vet like Mark Grzelyk (Drury loves these types), and one bigger UFA signing (hopefully not Chychrun).

Did anyone read the ESPN article on the Rangers by Greg? He interviewed a former NHL player, NHL executive, NHL player agent and Stan Fischler on how they would fix the Rangers. The player agent said Fox was most certainly top 10 player in the NHL? Really? Did Greg interview Fox's agent Matt Keator? Top 10 player? The entire league? t couldn’t have been Keator because the agent said Kreider looks checked out and the players are sensitive to seeing their friends get moved. Keator also reps Kreider. The former player said the Rangers are too impatient and brought up Panarin from 2019. The player agent mentioned Panarin is having a bad season. He was awful against Boston but he always struggles against teams which limit time and space.

My fix. Nuke the roster. Get quality back. Change the room. Culture. Fire Laviolette. Hire Woodcroft. Add youth from the AHL(Othmann, Mancini, Garand) and Perreault. Get a top pick in 2025 draft. Add an extra first round pick in 2025 and 2026.

Did anyone hear the latest NY Post pod? Brooks said he would have the conversation with Igor. Mollie said she was having the Igor conversation with Larry at the Boston game. He has a 10 team NTC. Brooks said the Rangers could rebuild or retool. Depending upon how deep the cuts will be, does Igor want to be here? It's a bad look if the Rangers trade him after signing him to the 8 year deal if he doesn’t want to be traded. I agree with that. If Igor doesn't want to wait two years and wants to go, the Rangers look into moving him. If he wants to wait a few years before it's go time..............................

If Igor is out like let's say another few games and has the groin concussion, I expect Garand to get a spot start one he's back healthy.

Mancini is working on his D at the AHL level. He got a little too rush and offense happy this summer which is fine, it takes a full year to bring everything together. He's actually played more games than I expected for this season.

Othmann will be up probably after the Four Nations break. If this team continues having a terrible season the pieces will be moved, and he'll get his "internship".

the o;nly thing more wild than the rangers shit season is the fans knee jerk crazy proposals to "fix it"
They're not that far off and will be back as soon as next season. A few moves here and there. Look at what the Capitals and Devils have done this year after last season.

Why was the Mika thread closed? I see journalists floating talks of a trade for him. Would be fun to discuss if only to make fun of (since they all seem to forget his NMC).

Lot of pipe dream mika for miller being discussed by the "pros" right now, which is super cute.

Not necessarily, if he knew other teams were going to offer 13M or more in UFA, they might like acquiring Igor for less than that. I doubt that was his plan all along though so you are probably right.

Still doesn’t make the deal good.

Maybe we add Lindgren and they add Turcotte and a pick. Its an interesting framework and the type of roster switch the Rangers need.

If JT only wants the Rangers (doubtful because Kypreos record is spotty) the Rangers shouldnt be giving up more than Mika. Reminds me of the MSL trade where everyone knew he wanted to be here and we still overpaid.

Why are the kings trading an important top pairing defenseman in a year they look like they can do something? If they want to add scoring they will trade futures. These trades make no sense.

I was born in the 50's and when I started following the Rangers Brad Park was making about $15,000 a year. You wouldn't have a CEO making 100's of times what a worker in his factory did---not even close. It's the nature of how are economic system has evolved which has not alway been for the best.

I very seriously doubt it will happen, but Richards and Carter both got extensions from Philly and then were traded before they kicked in. And Drury already looks like an incompetent fool.
