Ehhh not always.

Look at Giroux, dude has feasted in the playoffs and he's small and not fleet of foot either. As prospects? They profile very similarly.

I think the bloom has come off of the Pettersson rose for several reasons. The way he's been portrayed (fair or not) sounds a lot like what we have going on here right now and he did not have a good playoff. I do not want to pay a ton of money+capital to acquire a guy who has the worst qualities of Zibanejad and Panarin, even if he's only 26.

yeah giroux is who comes to mind when thinking of comparable players for GP. he wasnt a great skater but he was smart and scrappy and had insane vision

The last 3 years of Zib's contract (yet another Drury masterpiece) will force the Rangers to either retain or pony up significant sweeteners to get a deal done.

Generally I agree but since Miller has a full NMC, I’m assuming he has to be willing or even wanting to come to NY for there to even be smoke to this. If Miller decided it was NYR or nowhere (for some reason… insanity, concussion related brain trauma, masochism, take your pick) that ruins Vancouver’s leverage and so if both guys are waiving their NMC, while I have no doubt we’re adding, it may be less than expected. Allvin loves his Swedes, so gambling on Zib to bounce back if Miller says he’ll only waive for NYR is an interesting wrinkle.

yeah i really think Perreault is massively overrated here. it makes sense because he's our only prospect worth a shit (i'm very low on Othmann) but almost every team has a guy like him in their system.

I think people are seriously underestimating Perreaults competitiveness. He’s not overly fast or physical, but he’s absolutely not the type to avoid the middle of the ice for fear of contact, and he plays a good reliable game away from the puck

1 guy here has watched Perreault play, and the other guy hasn’t.

it's fine. every fanbase overvalues their own players. there are even still people here who think Zibanejad has some trade value.
yeah except its not just the rangers fanbase. Gabe is viewed across the league as a top20 prospect…

is it me or does Sam Bennett feel like a Drury type guy? UFA signing?

if he can get him on a Trocheck type contract, I'm all for it. That's around $6.2M per with the projected cap
That contract would be Goodrow’d in three years

If "saving the season" involves getting Mika to waive his full NMC and jettison him and his 5+ years left on his contract for a similar, or better, player whose contract changes to a modified NTC 2 years sooner then you "save the season" as soon as you can every time.
NOPE!!!! Once you get JT, you're stuck with JT.....that's just as bad (in my humble opinion, of course).

unfortunately there's really only 1 Barkov but Elias is probably the closest thing to him that we could ever imagine having a chance to acquire

Love it when the fancy charts back up everything I say. This matches my post responding to the same one you are responding to. There is a ton of crappy echo chamber opinions about EP being repeated lately. He is definitely one of the more similar types to Barkov that we could ever realistically hope to acquire.

Everyone thought Trouba had negative value not too long ago. Hell, some people were even willing to bundle Kakko just to offload him.

it's not my fault GM's are stupid for defenseman who throw Big Hitz. he should've had negative value.

(before you come at me saying "yeah, no shit", just watch the video. Does a good job of breaking Perreault down not only offensively, but also his defensive IQ)

Sure. The inverse is also true and... just because every fanbase overvalues their players doesn't mean that GP is being overvalued and that you are right.

The general consensusat the time was that the Rangers got one of the steals of the draft with GP.

82 games, 34 goals, 89 points, 125 hits, 68 blocked shots, 799 face offs taken at 51%

73 games, 23 goals, 80 points, 104 hits, 50 blocked shots, 1100 face offs taken at 57%

Both stat lines are from 2023-24. One is Pettersson starting the season as a 24 year old and ending as a 25 year old. The other is Barkov starting/finishing as a 28 year old. This is the season that ended less than 8 months ago. Pettersson’s is the one with the better numbers everywhere but face offs, btw. Obviously he’s not Barkov’s equal defensively, but he’s still a top 10 two way center as well.

Pettersson’s played 34 games this year on a team that’s struggling and all of a sudden you’d think he has negative value the way people are comparing him to Zib. He can easily finish this season above point per game. He’s got 48 games left and he’s only 6 points off of the pace. If Pettersson was available and the ask was Zib + Perrault and you said no because of Perrault’s potential, you are wrong.

Perreault will be in the NHL in our top 6 next season. His pedigree has earned that look. The rest is up to him but as a guy playing a big role for BC & USA Hockey I think he’s up to the task. I think he’s as untouchable an asset right now as Drury has and I wouldn’t trade him for EP/JT

What’s the asking price? That’s what it always comes down too

I'd trade Laf and that contract that he's nowhere near earning for EP and find a way to keep Gabe.

Then i trade Mika for Stan Smyl. Throw in Zac for Garth Butcher.

Then I'd stock draft picks for Stamkos and Hedman's infants.

Heard one will want to play.

Laf’s former agent is the Canucks AGM. I’d actually keep an eye on that

I’d do Mika+ for Pettersson without thinking twice. Pettersson is a very creative and intelligent player. Underrated defensively. Reminds me a bit of Datsyuk. BUT unfortunately he has some of the same flaws as our team and Mika in particular. He is a very mopey guy who doesn’t seem to handle adversity well. Personality is very nonchalant, doesn’t care, doesn’t have much energy to him on or off the ice. Bringing in Pettersson to a team with a strong veteran leadership core would be great, but I don’t think we’re the fit. He also has skating issues after a knee injury. Also a lot of issues with his wrist that seem to have hurt his shot which used to be absolutely elite
