I mean look at the habs, jg is there and they are several years in.Well we know that they weren’t now.
I don’t buy the notion that Dolan was driving it. Reasons being -
It’s what JG and JD do.
Look at the Knicks as @Machinehead pointed out. That’s the team that Dolan actually cares about and they basically ripped it down to the studs.
Listen a rebuild is easy to sell to anyone when it makes sense. JG/JD thought they could short cut it my splurging on Panarin and while also dishing out heavy contracts to Trouba and Kreider all within what? 9 months of each other?
It’s hard to continue to sell a rebuild to your boss when he’s forking over that kind of cash. There’s a big difference in the way they went about their business and the way rose/rosas have gone about theirs.
I don’t think they’re going in that direction now and I don’t think they need to either. It would behoove them to move most of the high priced guys. I mean all of the veteran core forwards outside of Trocheck should be on the market right now.
Look at JD, he's in Columbus and he is constantly preaching patience with the kids.
Panarin drops in the nyr lap and things change.
Gaudreau drops in Columbus' lap and they sign him
Maybe msg business could stomach two teams struggling at once. I'm not sure. Or maybe nyr started working and they didn't know what to do. Really it might be as simple as they didn't expect a Norris winner and a vezina winner to emerge from the org. Maybe the quality of those two players caught them so off guard they had to roll with it.
