The NMC for basically the entirety of the Zibanejad contract is a killer. You make the Zibanejad for Miller trade for that alone.

As disappointed as I am with their play I'm equally disappointed that Kredier and Zibanejad aren't talking about their legacies and the future of those legacies and the desire to keep enhancing them.

People have memory holed a lot of lore from this team. Panarin and Strome refusing to play with Kakko or any of the kids. Mika and Kreider refusing to play apart and needing a revolving door of journeyman instead of just making it work with a young guy. Drury and Gallant clashed in the playoffs over playing the youth more. Gallant sure looks vindicated after pointing the fiinger at our core veterans. Laviolette are as boring and boilerplate a GM/coach as you will find in the league but our delusional fans think Caligula is running the team.

Chicago GM went in to the locker room post Winter Classic meltdown and ripped the team a new asshole according to Chiclets. Bedard came out and apologized to the fans for the embarrassment. What did our guys do when pressure from up top came down on them? Folded. Again. Like always. Egos in the room not allowing the right guys to play. Lavi clearly to weak to overcome it. Drury has not been great on trades but I have really no problem with how he's handled anything since the season started.



Im saying in 2 years we'll probably have buyer's remorse. Like Mika. It's just funny to me that everyone wants yet another malcontent thinking it will all work out great in a room with no leadership like we have. If his name was Eli Peters and he was Canadian everyone would hate him. Trading for him would be as much as disaster as fans think trading for JT Miller would be.

Drury is a walking show shit show and the drama has followed him right from Hartford to NYR

I think the focus for Drury should be to get multiple firsts. Even if just one more and one or two second rounders. They need draft capital.

Guys like Cuylle and Laf and Fox if you want to include him are still young enough to build around on a long plan.

Although we all know a true rebuild in NY is literally impossible

That's not what you originally said.

But there's a difference between paying your goalie when you have a core in place and paying that goalie when the window of that core group looks to be closing.

There's a big difference between paying your goalie when you have a bunch of holes and paying your goalie when the biggest hole is in net. Rangers currently have too many holes to be spending almost 12 million in net.

You can look pretty full across the board but if theres a hole in net youre screwed. You can look half bare across the board but if you have a solid goalie in place you have a chance

Doesn't matter what Kakko does now. Drury could have cut bait YEARS sooner and gotten better returns for any of these guys that were traded.

Andersson couldn't grab a spot. Kravstov was a piss baby and also couldn't grab a spot. Kakko couldn't solidify any role. Jones can't grab a spot. All 4 had reputations of young players with good potential, and none seemed to gel with anyone on the team. So why not trade them when these things are realized and playing out right in front of everyone? Is the hope that they will suddenly one day "turn it on" and play like Mackinnon, going from 50 pt seasons to 100+ pt seasons? Drury can't keep operating in trades the way he has.

On the tankathon front the Rangers are now at No. 5 or getting to a place where pretty much anyone on the draft board is within reach.

It's not how I expected things to go this year but there are silver linings even for shit hockey. Pretty sure it won't happen but if Drury even thinks about moving that 1st rounder for anything less than a blue chip young player or draft pick higher than the 5 he should be shot. I would say fired otherwise but I think there's a pretty good chance that's going to happen anyway.

The only way Miller makes sense is under a few scenarios:
1) the cost is very minimal
2) Zibanejad is going the other way in exchange
3) Drury can trade Zibanejad and use those same assets, or equal value in assets, to acquire Miller

Those teams also have another very important commonality: they're Floridian, ie. No-Tax states. As such they're loaded with incredibly high-value contracts everywhere else on their roster.

Look at the contract Forsling just signed. Florida has Barkov and Tkchuk for less combined than we have Panarin and Zibanejad. Reinhardt just signed for as much as Zibanejad coming off a 57 goal season and a 10 goal playoff.

Kucherov. Point. Hedman. Stamkos signed his extension well under market value.

The No-Tax states are a big discussion point around the league for a reason. They can absorb a bad contract much better than the Rangers can.

I guess you have to include Montreal since you're saying finalists, but still, that team is the definition of an exception. Didn't they proceed to miss the playoffs entirely the very next season?

I don’t think it’d be much more. More than a small add but it’s not going to be a crazy significant package.

I think people need to realize that a bunch of teams in the league are basically capped out and aren’t really in a position to be tearing apart their rosters to make the salaries work. NYR and Vancouver both have problem players (apparently JT and Mika) who make similar money and are the same age and can benefit from a change.

They wouldn’t have to unload their 1st unprotected or from the top of their prospect pool.

Vancouver should wait until the summer to do this but if they’re doing it in season, the going rate is going to be lower than you think it is.

Jones never had as much value as you're trying to imply. Former 3rd round pick with an ok AHL career.

When I look at Jones he was an excellent (not great) college player for UMass which won an NCAA championship. Not too many guys off that team went on to the NHL though. Jones pretty much played the balance of two years in Hartford. He became a good AHL player. His offensive skills are his biggest strength and he was getting like 30 to 35 point years in 50+ game seasons. That's very good but it's not great and there hasn't been a lot of production when he's been up with the Rangers. Not a lot of power play time but Fox is also just a better player in pretty much every category and Jones has had a hard time finding a role with the Rangers.

The foundation for any defenseman is defense. If a defender can defend well and has the skills he's going places. If he's small and not so good defensively it's going to be hard. Jones is comparable to guys like Del Zotto, DeAngelo, Lundqvist. They all struggle in their own end. They get outmuscled and battled off pucks....they wear down faster if they get stuck on the ice on a long shift. If I'm an opposing coach and I look over at the other team and I see a guy on their D who I think I can exploit by putting him against my best players and/or pounding on him all game long that's then part of that game's game plan. I tell my players---f*** with that guy. Problem with the Rangers is there are 3/4 D (including Jones when he plays) can be exploited every night in different ways and a bunch of forwards who are not helping them enough.
