Well we know that they weren’t now.

I don’t buy the notion that Dolan was driving it. Reasons being -

It’s what JG and JD do.

Look at the Knicks as @Machinehead pointed out. That’s the team that Dolan actually cares about and they basically ripped it down to the studs.

Listen a rebuild is easy to sell to anyone when it makes sense. JG/JD thought they could short cut it my splurging on Panarin and while also dishing out heavy contracts to Trouba and Kreider all within what? 9 months of each other?

It’s hard to continue to sell a rebuild to your boss when he’s forking over that kind of cash. There’s a big difference in the way they went about their business and the way rose/rosas have gone about theirs.

I don’t think they’re going in that direction now and I don’t think they need to either. It would behoove them to move most of the high priced guys. I mean all of the veteran core forwards outside of Trocheck should be on the market right now.
I mean look at the habs, jg is there and they are several years in.

Look at JD, he's in Columbus and he is constantly preaching patience with the kids.

Panarin drops in the nyr lap and things change.

Gaudreau drops in Columbus' lap and they sign him

Maybe msg business could stomach two teams struggling at once. I'm not sure. Or maybe nyr started working and they didn't know what to do. Really it might be as simple as they didn't expect a Norris winner and a vezina winner to emerge from the org. Maybe the quality of those two players caught them so off guard they had to roll with it.

Then trade him or waive him

Bet Dawes would have been pretty decent in todays NHL

Why would they do that? He’s a better option as the 7D than someone like Connor Mackey. I’m sure if people were offering something for him they would deal him but is there much of a point in dealing him for like a 5th or 6th round pick? Do we even know if he would get claimed if waived? Similar size and style players with better pedigrees like Ty Smith, Calen Addison, and Adam Boqvist have gone unclaimed/signed PTOs in the offseason because nobody is particularly interested in that type of player

Now imagine the AHL level garbage it would be without Fox. Igor needs to provide above average goaltending, not steal games per se. Lately he's been less then average with the exception of a couple starts.
setting aside any other possible error, this is wrong b'c it does not acknowledge return for Fox
IMO Fox + sooner 2nd to Sens brings back Kleven, Pinto, Grieg + 1st way down the road
that is one example

Not garnering max price with the way he's played lately and making 3-4 mil more then tenders that have been better then him this year. How many teams can even afford to take on 11.5?

Problem is Igor makes SIGNIFICANTLY more then those cup winning goalies.
Shesty is only making like 5.6 this yr
next yr, yeah, they gotta go 11+ but cap will increase coupla mil which is ballpark the premium for elite over a higher end guy 8-9 range

So there is no prob moving/getting a good return
Just have to hope his pref is to go and go to LA

Mika Kreider Panarin Igor are all running shit and moping. Thats who Jones is really talking about.
We don't know for sure but I think he means Mika, who is the one best fits that description about collecting [not earning] a check

I don’t know why we’re investing time talking about JT Miller. He can’t come here unless Mika goes and Mika’s not going anywhere
concur
We can and should move MZ regardless, but that is not the same transaction required
VAN if they wanna move JTM want top dollar, which is not Mika, With double retention for scraps, I believe we can send Zib to VAN for scraps

If they get that kind of return I'd be okay with it. But Drury gonna Drury.

Because certain people on this forum love living in fantasy land making up things like "Zibs will waive to X city because they have Swedish players or a hot music scene." Dude got his buyout proof contract, got married and had a kid. He's comfortable, he isn't going anywhere.
Zib WILL break once you sit him ongoing, which can be justified by his abysmal play.
He does not want to have to explain to the kid why daddy is not playing.
Sitting the entirely of the contract is not good for his career.

Go get me Ridley Greig for Zac Jones
Greig was a late 1st
BEST case scenario, team has sudden rash of injuries on backline, agree to overpay, he gets a single late 2nd
his value is 3rd-ish

If Jones is worth a 5th and Vesey around a 3rd, does that package get you a 2nd from a wild card placed team looking for some playoff depth but still with an eye on the future?
Other way around-ish
Jones = a 3rd
Vesey = a 6th

it does not get us a better pick even if we find a suitor who takes both

shoe on the other foot, would you do that?

Would be nice if the team was full of young studs and just needed a high end vet to lead the way.

It’s the opposite. Tons of vets, all failing, nowhere near enough young talent.
Feel free to remind everyone who preached vs that and took a lot of crap from the win now crowd which is now shown to be wrong

Drury drafted him and he has a chip on his shoulder for falling to 23rd. He'll be here next fall and get an important role.

Vince hasn't scooped anything in his career.

I don't buy for a second that the team is acquiring players to try to make a playoff push.

I do, and that's why I want Drury canned, he can't be in charge of this team when it's painfully obvious if they don't make playoffs then Dolan will fire him then. A lame duck GM will sacrifice future for now, youth for vets and send us even further into a spiral

It's an interesting one. You want guys who are ruthless and demand, set and maintain a standard. But you also need guys who can work within a team environment.

In that anecdote, JT was apparently told that while others agreed with his take, his delivery method could lead to issues. It sounds like JT changed nothing and eventually it has led to him (and probably not just him) breaking Pettersonn/the lockerroom.
If JT comes in here and demands accountability that's great; if he comes in here and breaks Laf, or the next high pick we get, because he's just inflexible and can't communicate properly, I'm not sure it's still a good thing.

I'm not against JT if it gets Mika out of here, and I liked his first stint as a Ranger, but I honestly don't think you can bring him to this locker room with the way things are right now. IMO a team getting JT needs a captain who already sets the standard, can let Miller know where he fits in the hierarchy, can use him as a bit of an 'enforcer' within the playing group, BUT can also rein him in when needed. Nothing that's happened in the past few months makes me think we have that environment for him to walk into
If we traded for JTM, he’d be given the captaincy

If you read the article it’s pretty clear that Jones IS looking at his own play, and the heinous play of someone above him, and feeling like he’s not being given a fair shake

players thinking they know better than the gm and the coaches has been a big part of the problem all along. Upset when Goodrow was moved. Shocked that the team would even think of moving Trouba. It's not very far from there to a player who says 'It's not fair. I should be in the lineup, not him'.

Vince is hallucinating from the smell of diapers. The Rangers need to hire an exorcist.

The Rangers can't defend. Every mistake ends up in the net.

It doesn't sound like the MSG and Optimum thing will end in the near future. MSG is willing to accept less money to remain in the same tier and Altice wants to put MSG into a more expensive tier. Nobody really knows. The story changes everyday. Dolan made a deal with Spectrum for less money and longer term. Not everyone likes streaming. Your older parents can't operate the Apple TV or Roku remotes. They are used to the cable remotes.

These people are crooks. We are paying for MSG. We are paying for ESPN +. The Rangers games on ESPN+ are blacked out. It's not our faults the local cable company which the local government approved 40 -50 years ago and MSG can't get a deal.

i mean all logic points to that being the most ridiculous direction this team could take possible, but i just dont trust this organization to make any sound decisions. i would not be shocked if we tried to make a playoff push regardless of how far out we are. i do hope it doesnt happen though.

Why would that waive him? They might trade him. Unlike fans teams sometimes let a player have a couple of chances before moving a guy. After all the online experts demanded he be in the lineup because…whatever.

The people who say you should never pay a goalie and it prevents from building a team around them typically conveniently ignore the fact that 3 of the last 5 cups were won by the two teams with the highest paid goalies in the league. Igors contract is no issue, the issue is the composition of a baby shit soft core
2/5
Tampa's big contract for Vasilevskiy kicked in after the 2019-2020 cup.

Just an fyi the last 4 cups have all featured the top 3 highest paid goalies. People conveniently always ignore that. Igor’s contract isnt a burden
That's not what you originally said.

But there's a difference between paying your goalie when you have a core in place and paying that goalie when the window of that core group looks to be closing.

There's a big difference between paying your goalie when you have a bunch of holes and paying your goalie when the biggest hole is in net. Rangers currently have too many holes to be spending almost 12 million in net.

I wonder if EP ends up on the Rangers. He needs a change of scenery. The Rangers need a blockbuster deal to get them moving.

It is a short sighted move and not one that I would make, but realistically it is the move I am prepared for.

there is so much that could go so much worse than an acquisition of Elias Pettersson, we should all f***ing celebrate if that happens.
