Zibanejad wasn't a mistake because of his health, he was a mistake because he sucks.

He hasn't missed significant time since the 19-20 season despite having several injuries before that.
I'm not even sure what you're trying to argue?

I'm being glib but also serious in that I don't think the team trusts Chytil to stay healthy enough to be a really important part of the team.
That's separate, in my mind, from the question of whether he should be given more chances in the current lineup like power play time, 6 on 5, etc.

Yes, they should bench Zibanejad's ass and give his minutes to Chytil including special teams play (well maybe not PK, I dunno, whatever).

but it's a risky proposition to build out a hypothetical team with Chytil in a prominent role unless you have a really good backup plan.
If he can prove he can stay healthy and productive then great. But he has not even come close to that so far

Drury was a victim of circumstance a bit with that Zibanejihad deal, but it's what ultimately will get him fired.
If you remember right, people refused to consider trading kakko in a deal for eichel bc it would cost us Mika long term. Boy to be able to redo history...

I didnt forget. And if he is so perturbed by it why is it even being put forth as an option. He has an NMC.
Who is putting it forward as an option?

I was honestly probably one of those people given the neck stuff but man that was massive swing and a miss.

I mean he tends to get injured often enough that trusting in him to be an important part of your top six is a bad idea

e: I mean I swear like every year it's all "wow Fil looks great, he's flying out there, he's ready to take the next step, oops he got injure"
then
"he's back from injury I hope he can get back up to speed quickly!"
<three months later>
I think Fil might be rounding back into form

<LOOMING HEAD INJURY>
As soon as he gets going is when you should expect he gets hit for not being aware of his surroundings when he's full throttle

Regarding zib, awhile ago I posted management was giving the players their own nooses.

If you watch mika's deployment lately it is evolving to set him up to fail more. Why was he out as the 6th guy? It wasn't bc it was the best way to win the game, sometimes to get a player to agree to leave you need to play a game with them. Off pp1, ice time dwindling, but hey we believe in you to help tie the game so go get 'em sport! Player falls on their face again, media destroys them again. Media is getting harder on certain players by the day. Eventually they want to leave and get a fresh start.

There is a strategy to these things. People wonder why lavy is still here? He's gonna be here unless he stops doing what he's told to help the hard moves happen, and if lavy is still here and the players hate him then doesn't that make it more miserable for them and enhance the odds of a clause being waived.

Don't think Lavy is gone until after the deadline. Could change but would be surprised bc if they fire him then the players win and maybe they won't waive clauses

There is a process.

It's hard to blame Zibanejad's issues on anything other than he sucks right now. I don't know if it's in his head, or his balance is off, or he's struggling to be on the rink. But what I do know is that everything about is game is trash. He can't handle a puck at high speed. He can't shoot a puck. He has no vision. He can't react. And his defense has always been super overrated because he skated all over the place. He doesn't even do that anymore.

I told you all this summer it was coming.

I told you again prior to Thanksgiving it was coming.

Then Brooks said it was coming

Now Friedman is tell you all it's coming

Enjoy the carnage and I think some of your can stop doubting me...
What’s coming?

well also when we had hopes that Kakko would be something.

But there's definitely just bad shit that happens and you can't quite predict. Again, Zibanejad had his best years after he signed that contract extension. He signed Oct of 2021, that year he put up 29-52-81, his best full season totals of his career (though he had trended higher in the shortened years prior). The next season he put up 39-52-91

It was really last year that he severely started falling off. Not that he wasn't always a power play merchant to some extent, but his actual overall game took a big nosedive and continues to do so.

So, for two years after signing that contract Zibanejad produced accordingly and out produced Eichel (and Eichel continues to miss games)

whatevers going on, whether it's covid relapse, mental health issues, distracted and not taking hockey seriously, getting old, I dunno, but it mostly went into high gear this season and started last season

His biggest drop off by far has been between 23-24 and 24-25. Is that still COVID?
Go watch the player he was prior to COVID, and understand he had multiple issues with long covid. It wasn't a one time thing for him. There is a big different between watching and reading his stat line. His stats were pumped by standing on the left dot and hammering one timers in those post 2021 years. Prior to that he was skating and creating at 5v5 when he was a force in games. This is the issue with reading stat lines. He has been absolute shit prior to this year and the hard drop off of play started 2-3 years ago regardless what the stats say

I don't totally know that I agree. 2022 playoffs he took that team on his back multiple times in order to push them past Pittsburgh and Carolina.
2023 well lol at playoffs but yeah I suppose that's when things started really sliding overall

Zibs got paid. Got married. Has a family.

He’s not a sold out hockey player. It’s a job. He has guaranteed money and full control on where he plays. It is what it is.

Nothing is changing this season. If he puts in some extra work during the offseason, we may get a glimpse of old workhorse Zibs.

22 was not all roses. Media like Vince keep saying it's from too heavy 5v5 matchups that he always looks tired, people make the jokes about being vegan. Dude has lost so much mass and has no stamina at all. I can't lay this out much more. Illnesses are not always linear...

With all the NMCs there is a limited pool of players that they can move. Just numbers

I believe almost anyone can be moved.

1. Most guys do not want to stay where they are not wanted. Trouba was a rare case.

2. If you tell the player its a trade or healthy scratch for here on out they will want to play.
