So if Carolina loses this round we are guaranteed somewhere between 20-23 since Dallas and Calgary are playing this round (ensuring at least one lower ranked team moves on).

What if Buch plus gets a C and Strome or Chytil slides to RW. Fast resigned w kakko/Gauthier rounding it out

PP 1 Zib, Bread, Laf, Kreider , TDA
PP2 Strome , Kakko , new C, Trouba, Fox

So if Carolina loses this round we are guaranteed somewhere between 20-23 since Dallas and Calgary are playing this round (ensuring at least one lower ranked team moves on).
If the winner of Dallas/Calgary gets knocked out next round their draft spot doesn't jump.

no because the Cal-Dall loser could lose in 2d round and stay ahead of Car pick
ONLY teams that win at least 2 rounds move from their winning %age spot
and for any 1st place teams make 3rd round, spots 24-27 get filled by other lesser teams

so, even if they lose to Boston, CAR pick could fall to 24 of 1st round
(ie with only the better-record teams after them)

Doing some research today and I think the only conceivable ADA trade I would make is for Domi. Nothing else hits the sweet spot for me.
ADA for Domi straight up.
Domi would light it up with these wingers

Personally, that's the round I start looking and with two third round picks I fully expect it to be a consideration.

It makes sense.

Hank and AG could both out of the organization in the next 8 weeks. We've drafted 1 goalie in the last 3 years, and that was Olof Lindbom...

Posted this in another thread. But seriously, if this doesn't make you daydream and smile, you need to find another team.

I promised myself that I would buy a Kakko/Hughes jersey if we won the lottery. I ended up buying an authentic blue Kakko jersey. I promised myself that If we won the lottery to select Lafreniere, I would buy an authentic white jersey. Looks like I’ll be doing that in the fall. Great problem to have since I don’t even wear hockey jerseys that often haha.

Lindholm has has posted 56 goals and 132 points the last two seasons. Buch has posted 37 goals and 84 points. There's a 19 goal and near 50 point gap there. That's not a one season difference, Lindholm has just flat-out out-scored him the last two years.

Lindholm also finished in the top 10 for Selke votes last year and will likely do the same this year.

I think there's a pretty decent gap there.

Lindholm can play center, he moved over a lot more in Calgary because he clicked with their top line. So he went from third line center to first line RW. I really don't think moving there full-time will be an issue. The dude's taken more than 1,700 faceoffs the last two years.

last 5 years he has taken 3600 faceoffs and is 52.8%....this year is down a bit at 49.3% but last 2 years in carolina and first in calgary were 54.7%. purely from a faceoff standpoint he would easily be our best guy on draws

Why do you think both of them are out? Seems unlikely to me. Clearly, one of them is not returning. But even if they are both gone, how is a goalie we draft in October going to help us?

Max Domi is a guy I'd target for the second line C. Had 72 pts last year as a C for the Habs. This year for some reason fell out of favor with Julien and has been playing on the 4th line in these playoffs...Is an RFA at season's end, making $3.15M, so he will surely command $5-$5.5. Maybe sign him for 2 years (will be UFA after second year).
He's gritty and plays with an edge, something we need moving forward, "harder to play against" and is young, 25 yrs old. Habs will need money to pay some RFA's/UFA's in the next year or two (Tatar, Petry, Gallagher, Danault), so we can't be dumping much salary onto them. 1st rounder (Carolina's) this year? Geo + second rounder next year +...(They need a capable backup to Price)? Depending how he plays with us, we keep him when he turns UFA or trade him at deadline, which will certainly get you a good pick or package.

It's still possible that someone comes and makes us an offer for AG that we take, even if Hank is bought out or retires. Best case, is AG not then traded next summer?

It doesn't help us now, but outside of Alexis no one we take will. It's about the pipeline.

I don't think whatever happens with Lundqvist this off-season is going have an impact on the Rangers keeping Georgiev. If a team offers the Rangers the deal they're looking for, they will move him. If Lundqvist retires, they'll sign a backup that can play enough games to keep Igor fresh.

I'd add Domi to the list of the guys who should theoretically be on the Rangers radar and would check a bunch of boxes for them.

Agreed. I don't see Georgiev being connected to Lundqvist. If he does it's because there's a package the Rangers like.

On the flip side, if Georgiev does go, I do think it might sway Lundqvist.

The more you discuss this, the more enthused I am about having this happen.

The Rangers mentioned his name, don't know what Calgary's interest level is.

Both teams are familiar with the names the other likes. That's usually enough to have a decent coversation.

And, if that happens, I think a Staal buyout becomes necessary.

if we do this trade, do we re-sign Strome and play him at RW? Do we keep Fast? I’m guessing we would sign or trade for a bottom pairing guy to replace ADA, I can’t imagine we bank on Nils. Is he even gonna be at camp?

what about a trade for Virtanen then, supposedly he’s been in and out of the dog house, there’s rumblings of trading Boeser to free up money for Toffoli, this would also help and he plays a more north south game that the Rangers could use.

I still think all of this is a big ask, mostly the Calgary trade. I see lesser deals being made. Tony D at least here for another year, I’d love for some of these bigger deals to be made but it would shock me to be honest given Covid, flat cap, expansion draft, etc..,

I’d like to see people’s thoughts and values on Virtanen, Kempe, Jost. I think they all kinda under preformed expectations but do have higher ceilings, the question is could the Rangers get it out of them.

Well, you have stated in the past that Calgary has shown interest in Buchnevich.

This is since Buch made the NHL. At 5v5 there's virtually no difference when you account for TOI. Of course when you just look at the last 2 years when Lindholm had a clear outlier of a season he looks much more impressive than Buch does when it comes to raw point totals but when you look at the totality of their careers and take into account ice time it's basically the same. Lindholm was really good last season defensively but outside of that he's been not good.

You know something to keep in mind, and it bears repeating, is that this type of deal isn't summer 2020 or bust.

Yes, on the Rangers end I know they've asked about Hanafin and Lindhom.

On Calgary's end, I know they've asked about Buch and Kreider in the past. Don't know if ADA has ever come up.
