I think Anaheim is closer to turning the corner than they are bottoming out. Yeah, they had a tough year, but they have some really nice young players who are either starting to step in or are less than a year away from doing so. Can't imagine they'd jettison Lindholm who is still young in his own right.

Calgary and Edmonton make sense. Both could use depth scoring and a goalie. Edmonton could just use a bit of a shake up in general.

What is Geo expected to get this summer?

There are about 15 legit starters/backups that are UFAs this summer. Shouldn’t be hard to find someone that can back up Shesty for around a mil.

Hanifin and Nurse are names the Rangers have asked about in the past.

The price on both was decently high.

Buch has come up in past talks with both Alberta teams.

DeAngelo for Nurse straight up

DeAngelo for Nurse straight up

I don't think the Rangers do that straight-up.

Now, add the 14th pick (where they could then go ahead and be within striking distance of someone like Lundell), and maybe they find that appealing.

Personally, I wouldn't do it. But I can't say with certainty the Rangers wouldn't consider it.

Honestly I don't have a great feel for how good Nurse is/how he's viewed but he's a big LD who skates well etc and would probably solidify that left side quite a bit and those guys are sometimes overvalued. That said you can't ignore DeAngelo's points, and is Nurse just kind of Skjei 2.0?

If the deal was ADA for Nurse + 14th I would 100% take it. They'd be getting a very different type of d-man in Nurse but he's almost exactly what they need on the left side.

Okay. Here is my offseason plan. Let’s get weird.

NYR gets Stastny, Martinez and Krebs. VGK gets DeAngelo, Carolina 1st, (plus if necessary)
  • VGK gets necessary salary relief and can replace those assets internally. Also good ROI on what they gave up for Martinez.
  • Rangers upgrade center and get Trouba a partner both may be stop gaps but NYR does not have to protect either for expansion draft. Stastny becomes their faceoff specialist as well
Free agency: Dustin Byfuglien. 1 year deal. Stopgap. Low risk signing. Moneypick replacement for DeAngelo. Should help D. More cup winning experience.

Goalie situation: Hank retires with a golden handshake.

Buyouts - None. Let the deadweight run out. Ton of cap space in 2021, take the money extend Zibanejad and reassess the market.

Possibilities
  • Georgiev on block or can be added to VGK if Fleury retires/they ask for him. Vet minimum 1yr deal keeper if he walks
  • Buchnevich possible trade bait if needed for salary reasons. If moved replace with either Kreider at RW (temporarily) or Kravtsov (if he earns a spot.

The big difference is Nurse is mean. He's more Trouba in the way he plays than Skjei

There's probably a very low chance of it happening considering the way things ended, but depending on his price I would be open to talking to Namestnikov about a return

That said I'm sure he wasn't exactly thrilled the Rangers dumped him in Ottawa to shed cap

Would also be interested in circling back with Colorado about Jost

That is horrendous, and I mean horrendous value for DeAngelo.

I understand the thought process, but yeesh.

Is it though? There is still a big extension coming for him. Maybe we can get a prospect back from Vegas as well. I think Krebs was mentioned yesterday? Throw him in there too

Really wondering if there is a deal to be had with Vegas. They have really bad cap issues. Would try to get Stastny and Martinez out of there. DeAngelo and 2020 Carolina 1st to headline a deal.

Either individually greatly improve the Rangers but getting gives a really good foundation. Vegas gets cap relief and can have Glass step in for Stastny. DeAngelo is a great fit there and Rangers sell high. Not a perfect deal necessarily but solves some issues. Makes Rangers harder to play against too to make y’all happy. Vegas gets good ROI on those Guys too. Not a complete idea yet but it’s in the workshop.
Seems like a bad idea to trade ADA for 2 rentals and Martinez isn't even good.

That is good. A good pick.
Absolutely. In a deep draft you can get a real good player there maybe even someone who falls. Or it becomes an attractive trade piece as part of a package to get a C. It’s a win win

See this is the problem I have with finding a suitable trade for Tony.

If I was running another team I wouldn't trade a top pairing LD and a top 15 pick for Tony. But maybe I'm just undervaluing him
