75% of this board has had Skjei in a proposal for months. Don't single him out.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Rangers make another enforcer signing or trade for someone of that ilk. Caps aren't going to be fun to play against with a very young team. Right or wrong they seem to still believe in having a guy who can scrap with anyone.

Skjei is the best D by default.

The Rangers are rebuilding. The Rangers are still looking to add high end young players. They need to give up something to get something.

Will Skjei even be on the team when the Rangers are ready to win again?

Why is your first inclination to sign an expensive free agent?

The Rangers have do many young D in their system. They can survive the loss of Brady.

I agree for once with RBs idea.

Skjei has been underwhelming. In fact he has been pretty damn bad. You can blame this coach or that one, but a lot of his mistakes are just plain idiocy. Bone-headed plays that leaves you banging your head against the wall. Yes he skates well, he can chip in offensively, but the bad has outweighed the good imo. I think he can still improve, however, if you can dump his salary and get the #10 pick that would be quite the addition by subtraction. They can spend that money elsewhere or hold onto it and wait. Sign the stop-gap defenseman for 1-2 years. Opens up more playing time for Hajek/Lindgren/Rykov/Reunanen on the left side.

Gudas: he stayed in division but at least we don't see him more than if he was in philly.

I need a reason to shake me out of looking at the caps positively since they knocked out the pens.

I think that is Smith. I also believe that the reason that Gorton loaded up on the 7th rounders is for that reason. To try to grab and develop their own.

This team was awful last year. I'm not in love with anything in the system. I'll listen to any idea. At the same time, I understand why the team is bad and I'm not overly negative with anyone in particular. It's going to improve but I don't look at the worst ROW team and declare a piece essential.

I don't think Vancouver's big splash at the draft in front of all their fans is going to be a Brady for #10 swap. Brady + 20? Sounds more realistic but even still.

I mean, I'd be about that life, but I just don't see it happening. Would be nice to trade Kreider then for 14 and have 10 + 14.

10 + 14 = a semi falling Byram?

If you can get the 10th overall for Skjei it would be negligent to not make it happen. Skjei might be the "best" we have, although I would argue that he's behind a couple others, but even if that's true that doesn't mean we should hold onto him because of that. And if we are going to suck again who really cares if the defense does turn out to be worse? Isn't that more beneficial if the goal is to get another top pick?

Interesting. Would make sense, especially with @bobbop's reports they've been talking to Vegas, and the fact that the Golden Knights are absolutely jammed up against the cap.

I certainly wouldn't mind if he came with a sweetener. He's a really tough guy who can actually play a fourth line role.

Could be Smith but I think they'll try to do better. Long term they'll probably want a home grown solution but that's a ways off.
 
Reeves may have actual positive value on the trade market rather than needing to have a sweetener attached.

Bring back McLeod or similar would be my inclination.

Not that I think they are good, or have game left, yet something like that would probably be cheap, one year, and the Rangers are not going to force a player like that into the line-up.
