Maybe, and like it’s of course all matter of definition. But Kreider certainly had a very looooong quite period at the end during which he did absolutely nothing, and Skjei had a rough start and never took off.

I just think that TDA more or less every time he hit the ice and played well, and on some nights he was the offensive threat we had that really could break things open.
I'm not taking anything away from him, but it certainly seems like you are downplaying Skjei and Kreider

Matta is not really help on defense. He's really bad. Kahun is on an ELC, just had a nice rookie year, and will produce well for cheap if played with Crosby or Malkin.

Yeah, they can put Tanner Glass on a line with Crosby and he will produce. This is not really a reason for Chicago not to trade Kahun.

I understand why they made the trade, but I would never have done it. Not convinced Kahun is going to be a big loss for Chicago

Chicago trading Kahun isn't really it's an issue. Trading for Maatta is more of one.

Kahun fits will in Pittsburgh because they like having cheap offensive guys on Crosbys line ranging from Dupuis to Rust to Sheary to Guentzel all of whom always produce well. He's a good fit for them. He had a good year last year and didn't play with Kane much. He played with Toews a lot but that's a different tier of player.

I am wondering if acquiring Maatta means they are closer to buying out Seabrook. Man, that would be an epic buy out if it happens

That would be quite the hit

That is this season through to the 2028-29 season... yikes

Given that the Devils and Islanders are mentioned in the article but no packages are detailed, one would have to wonder who the source of this article is. Is it someone affiliated with WPG trying to up the NYR offer? Likely.

Or is it someone from the NYR front office trying to make a potential package in a Trouba trade seem less painful if its not as much as mentioned in Brooks' article.

One thing is clear. We'd be giving up a lot of the future in this deal if it's picks and prospects. I think we should just sign Derrick Brassard and trade him for Trouba. Already worked once...

Yeah, and I am sure I am suffering from some recency bias downplaying Kreider who was fantastic early, and I was also a little disappointed with Skjei not being able to handle a bigger role and step up more.

These things can always be debated back and forth, but I do think that we are underrating just how well TDA actually played for us. JMHO.

I think it’s just Brooks speculating, I don’t think he’s ever really close with trade prices

Brassard has almost no value now...

It reads like a Winnipeg mouthpiece giving Brooks a "tip" and Brooks just publishing anything he can because he has nothing else

Brooks clearly has minimal, if any, sources left to get any actual inkling of a scoop from inside the NYR; he's been bleeding out for a bit

Or is that where Gorts want the discussion to take place? Around those names?
If he wanted the discussion around those names, he’d say those names on the phone when calling about Trouba. Brooks does get info, but I feel like the specifics are severely overstated because no one else gets any info, and then we sit around taking Brooks just throwing stuff out there just to pad out an article as gospel

On June 20, 2016 the Buffalo Sabres traded a third round pick to the Nashville Predators for the rights to Jimmy Vesey. He didn't sign. Tim Murray looked like a fool. They hired Jason Botterill to replace him.

https://nypost.com/2016/12/01/jimmy-vesey-showing-why-sabres-right-to-be-pissed-off/

On December 1, 2016 Vesey played the Sabres for the first time since spurning them in free agency. The fans hate him. Boos every time he touched the puck. He said he "might have pissed some people off." You all think they are going to try and trade for him again? The player isn't good. 31 overall? Laughable. The Rangers would be lucky to get a 4th round pick for him.

He scored his career high in goals this past season. Seventeen. Big deal. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine. Ten. Eleven. Twelve. Thirteen. Fourteen. Fifteen. Sixteen. Seventeen.

Alain Vigneault was named the 21st head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers on April 15. Kevin Hayes's rights were dealt to the Flyers on June 3. AV loves his favorites. Tanner Glass. Marc Staal. Kevin Hayes thrived under AV and turned into a linchpin of the team. Jimmy Vesey played under AV on the Rangers and grew up with Kevin Hayes.

One of the major reasons Vesey came to the Rangers was to play with his best friend Kevin. Winning comes secondary to him. He wants to play with friends. Is Gorton awake? He can give Chuck Fletcher a call. Jimmy Vesey to the Flyers. Michael Raffl and a 5th round pick to the Rangers. The Rangers buyout Raffl for a minimal cap hit.

Great stuff, but eh I don’t quite understand your trade proposal. We deal Vesey for a 5th round pick and a cap dump??

Hehe, you are right. I take back what I said. Maybe Gorts just driving up the price for our rivals. ;)

Regarding Vesey,

I have no issues with a 3rd line player, producing 3rd line points making 3rd line money.

If hes beat out for a spot by one of the kids in the system, so be it. But I am absolutely not moving him to make room for a kid that hasn't earned the spot.

That's NOT how you build a team

You build a team by letting internal competition determine who and who does not get playing time.

Getting rid of him to open a spot for a younger player because they may be better, in my opinion, is short sighted and dangerous.

Set the precedent that you have to earn the job.

Not that one will be handed to you because you are young.

Great point!

I'm convinced that the current Rangers camp gives no information whatsoever to the press nor press affiliates. The old regime operated like that, trying to finagle and gain leverage through what is essentially ads and posturing but we have seen absolutely nothing of that here for years.

I don't trust Larry's grasp on the market for Trouba let alone the valuation of the pieces that he thinks we need to pay.
