I think there is a distinct risk that Lundqvist will meet up with Dolan directly and convince him to go all in this summer, trading Kakko for Malkin and signing Karlsson and Panarin. I just think that we should all be prepared for that this is quite probable.

Do you think that would be a good option or not?

Even if there are an infinite number of parallel universes, this doesn't happen in a single one of them.

The scouting combine is over. Lundqvist should have returned to NY by now. Oh to be a fly on the wall listening to what Lundqvist wants to discuss with the Rangers. Are the Rangers plans in synch with his plans and their role for him during the remaining two years of his contract?
Hopefully Hank will waive and move to a contender.

I’m actually more concerned that he’s going to make Dolan fire JD and Gorts, and install brother Joel as President/GM.

Then sign every Swede UFA possible. It’s very likely. Kakko would be dealt as well. He doesn’t appreciate Kakko beating him.

Let’s bring in Karlsson, if fit, he has it all. He can bring us the cup

Grabner says hello.

Reclamation projects are different. Since they cost almost nothing, you can bring in Grabner, Pirri, Puempel, Jooris, etc, see which one works out and bury the rest in the AHL.

I was only talking about the top UFAs, not value pickups.

Let's toil in mediocrity for another decade.

This sentence is synonymous with your post.

We've had multiple first round picks for 3 years straight and likely a 4th year next draft. We've had a top 9 pick each of these 3 drafts, with an elite talent coming this year. How does adding a Panarin or Karlsson (who im not quite interested) spell 10 years of mediocrity?

Zero people said that. Zero. In fact, everyone calling for a rebuild the proper way explicitly says that we need vets like Zibanejad, Staal, etc.

It is the people trying to sign/acquire every big name out there who call on the dumping of our vets because they think rookies can be plugged into the top-6 immediately to play alongside Panarin, EK, Trouba. The people who have Kakko Zibanejad Panarin, Kravtsov Lias/Howden Chytil as our top-6 are the ones looking to sign UFAs, which only further exposes their lack of hockey knowledge because not only do they want UFAs for an unready team, they dont even get that teens need time to bake.

At the deadline, we traded away Zucc and Hayes. 2 of our 6 top 9 last season. How are we replacing them? With Chytil and Kakko? Or with one or two vet signings? I think most of us would prefer at least one vet signing. If you're signing a vet, who? A cheap stopgap in the the Namestnikov mold? Or a guy like Panarin who will be here long-term and most likely still very effective when the kids are coming into their own? I don't like relying on the kids to score consistently. But if we don't acquire someone who can be relied upon to score consistently, it's going to be putting lots of pressure on the kids. So, the question, how do you address this issue? Do you acquire someone?

And when all of the aforementioned picks/prospects/etc. break out and demand big pay days, we haven't won dick and we have a monster albatross contract for yet another past his prime superstar. Therefore handicapping us.

Is Trouba worth that much more than Kreider? Why wouldn’t the team acquiring Kreider also extend him? We’ve been throwing around the value of Kreider as a middle 1st rounder + young NHLer or good prospect. Something like Arizona’s 1st + Crouse.

Theoretically what if this was Gorton’s plan:

Kreider for ARI 1st + Crouse

Skjei + WPG 1st for Trouba

The Rangers add Trouba and still move up in the draft. The swap of Trouba for Skjei makes sense from the Rangers POV.

Even if Pionk is added it’s still a good deal.

Then sign Panarin. This team will be fun to watch next season and can’t help thinking it should be a playoff team a season after.

Names - Ziba - Buch
Panarin - Chytil - Kakko
Lemieux - Howden - Strome
Vesey - Lias - Fast
(Kravtsov in the AHL to start)

Hajek - Trouba
Staal - ADA
Smith - Shattenkirk
(Rykov in the AHL to start)

Lundkvist / Georgiev
(Shesterkin in the AHL to start)

So all of our prospects are going to break out, they're all going to demand big pay days, Artemi Panarin is going to be on the team while that happens and despite all those good things happening we're not going to win a thing?

I honestly didn't mean to lump Panarin in - I'm still in the fence on that one pending on what happens with Kreids.

I was speaking about rickety Karlsson and his 10 million dollars.

I also of course don't think all will break out, but you've gotta keep options open when you don't even know what we have.

Because if someone on here is trying to convince me of a way of thinking, I’m going to respond to what they’re saying.

But I’ll flip that question on you, because I’ve seen it come up a few times in the last few months and I find it to be an interesting question.

Why do any of of us post? We don’t make the decision. We’re not a board of governors. They don’t care what we think.

For that matter, why do we post on other subjects? Why do we have opinions on anything?
Really?

You're all over the place. You're taking different opinions and posts, clumping them together as one and going into nonsensical speculation. 'We're going to sign Karlsson, Panarin and Trouba. We will then trade depth to help support those players'

We should follow patterns. We should have some understanding what Gorton will do. Does Gortons MO, signal anything that you posted? hence, my response

A few reclamation projects?

Potentially (likely?) we start the season with Kreider still on the roster and Kravtsov in the minors.

Kreider Zibanejad Butcher
Kakko Strome Names
Vesey Chytil Lemieux
Lias Howden Fast
* Boo/Vinni/Kravtsov

Even without Kreider or any FAs, we can still field a full roster by calling up Kravtsov midseason as Kreider gets traded. If Kreider gets traded this summer, I assume we get a player like Lemieux along with a pick... or just sign someone inexpensive.

Once we trade Kreider, Vesey, Names and Fast, we will need to rely on kids like Vinni and Boo stepping up, along with Beleskey, and possibly a player we get for 1 of those 4. But it's only a few games, we did it the last 2 years, we can do it 1 more time.

Now I know who Edge is quoting

Flyers looking to trade the 11th pick. Might be a possible trade partner if Kreider is willing to extend.

This is not what @Edge is doing. Playing devils advocate and making you consider angles left unaddressed.

I can see Kreider being kept for the same reasons as Hayes and Zuke until TDL, but didn’t Gorton mention that he’d try to resolve Kreider’s contract situation before the start of next season?

The only reason I wouldn't try getting Breadman is that 2020 1st round pick.

Without him it's a top 5-10, with him a 10-20 pick ...

That's crucial. By the time Kakko, Kravtsov, etc enter the start of their prime, odds are, whoever we draft with our 2020 top-5 pick will be better than Panarin [in his mid-30s] at a quarter of the cap hit.

Trouba sucks

This post sucks.

I’m not really for, or against Trouba, but he’s a hell of a player.

Lundqvists goals aren’t more important than the franchises.

Did you listen to JD’s presser?

Patience. No short cuts.

This dumbass approach is why our team has 1 mother****ing cup in the last 79 years.
