That's what happens when you sign mediocre, soon to be declining players to long-term deals taking them deep into their 3o's because "he's been here longer and he's a core leader"

Ouch.

Also figure by not trading Kreider you missed getting another first (which could have been packaged to move up for Lundell or another center), and probably a nice prospect as well (maybe a LD?).

My memory could be a little fuzzy, but I want to say that between 1982 and 2017, the list of teenagers who played for the Rangers was fairly small.

Chris Kontos in 1982. Brian Leetch in 1987. Troy Mallette in 1989. Steven Rice in 1990. Alexei Kovalev in 1992. Christian Dube in 1996. Manny Malhotra in 1998. Dan Blackburn in 2001. Michael Del Zotto in 2009. JT Miller in 2012. Anthony Duclair in 2014.

Roughly 11 in an approximate 35/36 year span. Some were cups of coffee. Some were up and down. Etc. etc.

If Lafreniere makes his debut for the Rangers next season, we will be the fourth teenager to play for the Rangers since 2017.

So we’ve gone from 11 teens in 35/36 years, to 4 teens in 3/4 years. And we arguably might see a fifth teen if Kravtsov gets a look (one would argue be might have under normal circumstances in 2020).

And some of these kids saw quite a bit of time. Chytil for most close two full seasons now. Kakko for a full season. Andersson for roughly a full season. And that doesn’t take into account the number of 20 or 21 year olds we’ve seen or will see.

So that’s a bit of a re-calibration for Rangers fans.
Great post. I’ve noticed this as well. Have to mention 19 year old Mike Allison in 1980-81 putting up 64 pts in 75 games.

This isn't true. Chytil actually had a pretty high number of high danger chances last year (and the year before). 5v5 he had more than Panarin and was on par with Zibanejad. So either he's elite at creating opportunities for himself or he's better at getting open than you think.

I'm cool with KCB too. That trio worked well last year and I'd rather Laf with Zibanejad.

IMO the top 9 next year is ideally(this isn't particularly assigning a Line 1, Line 2, Line 3 but simply just line combos I think could work):

Laf - Zibanejad - Kakko
Panarin - Strome - Fast
Kreider - Chytil - Buch

No, I still wouldn’t completely rule it out to be honest with you.
):

I guess I take solace in that the offer would have to be too stupid for us to turn down, I suppose?

I just really want to keep the pick and take Laf.

hes great with the puck.... like I said.

Playing with Panarin or Lafreniere... he will not have the puck.. hence a bad combinationn imo

He’s dangerous on the rush but has wildly inconsistent hands. He’ll either dangle a defenseman out of his jockstrap or he can’t handle the puck at all, it feels like. Love Fil’s upside but his game is undeniably raw still.

LAF (draft #1) - Zibanejad - Kreider
Panarin - W. Nylander (trade) - Kakko
C. Wilson (UFA) - Chytil - J. Andersson (trade)
Lemmy - Howden - Goat
Cheap Grinder?, Kravtsov

J. Brodin (trade) - Trouba
Lindgren - Fox
C. Soucy (UFA) - Smith/McDermid (trade)

Czar
UFA Backup

Traded
ADA
Buch
Strome
Georgiev
Lias
Hajek?
Prospects/picks (likely both ways)

Bought out
Staal

If possible, try to draft up with our second #1 pick

really minor nitpick but Kravtsov is already 20 (1999 birthday).

In his head sure...but there come a point when reality needs to take precedent over fantasy
Itd nothing personal
Hes just not the guy anymore
It happens

Retirement is sometimes a huge hurdle for elite athletes though, they live their entire life with that mentality of being the guy that accepting or believing they're not the guy sometimes never happens for them.
He may think he just needs a good offseason, a new training routine or something along those lines to get back to his best and that may be true. Henrik knows Henrik better than anybody else.

Enamored with winning a cup in New York. Sorry, bad wording. Point is, he’s put his blood, sweat and tears into this team longer than anyone. Why would he want to leave with unfinished business?

Its not like he's gonna be around when they are ready to compete, next year is not that.

Rangers are not going to resign Hank when his deal expires.

He can clamor all he wants about unfinished business, but the truth of the matter is that he's out of both short term and long term planning.

As great a goalie he was for this franchise, time waits for no man.

Time to go.

I’m not really worried. It would take a stupid offer and I don’t think the odds favor that happening at all.

Ottawa is the only team I can see even having the incentive to make a stupid offer for #1. I can't see the Rangers moving out of the top-3 and the Sens get a marketing boost from having a Quebecois star in the fold. So while I'm sure that comment was just Melnyk putting out some embers before it turned into an inferno, you never know with that franchise as long as he's at the helm. He's taken some serious gut punches over the last couple years.

I like it, it gives us 3 solid lines. Only problem
Is that I don’t think we will have enough to sign Fast. A team will overpay him.

I see Buch going to the second line and Kravtsov On the 3rd line.

Aren't you worried about Glass' durability?

Not sure why so many are hard on Chytil. Chytil is 20. Our other 2 first round forwards are still listing their demands to come grace us with their presence.

True ... it’s tough to be patient but Chytil is still gaining weight and developing

Andersson just irritates me and they should try and get something back at the draft

Kravtsov I kinda feel is like a Buchnevich which isn’t a bad thing. Is he going to get loaned to the khl to start the year then called up later vs more AHL time ?

Chytil is going to get a look at 2C and I dont even know that he is a strong 3C. So why wouldn't a strong 3C get a look at 2C over Strome? It stands to reason.

Chytil getting a look at 2C at some point throughout the season is developing a player.

Chytil getting a look at 2C because they think he's a more viable option than Strome is not an accurate description of the situation

ARRRRR!

Don't think we see this much turnover. Thats 7 roster players out when you include Fast not coming back.

i will say this about next season, Kravtsov should get a real shot on with good players this year or we risk sending him back to russia. Maybe he takes Kakko's spot on line 3? As im writing this im realizing that if Kravtsov and Lafrenierre are on this team, we are saying goodbye to Fast. My guess for next season. Also...i love this lineup.

Kreider zib Buch
Panarin Strome Kakko
Lafrenierre Chytil Kravtsov
Lemieux Howden Barron

Three rookie forwards. Bottom six looks like in need of a baby sitter. Where's Gauthier? If I had to guess Kravtsov will be called up after a month or two, not on the roster from the start of the regular season. Even smaller for Barron. Need a good and cheap bottom-6er, preferably center. McKegg's roster spot needs a big upgrade.
