Like how many times do we have to say this??????

Maybe we can coax Nash outta retirement???

Maybe we can trade the WPG 1st to DAL for the rights to Zucc? Too late? Oh. Damn
The only former Ranger I'd look to bring back would be Boyle, if we were to find takers for two or three of Fast, Namestikov, Strome, and Vesey. Well, maybe Hagelin. Or Callahan if it brings back an asset. Or Ratelle, Gilbert, Hadfield, Tkachuk or Park in 1972 form. But enough with the nostalgia.

Brock Nelson deal should be good news for the Rangers if they intend to negotiate with Kreider for an extension.

Nelson was free to hit the open market. He is a little less than 6 months younger than Kreider. Kreider’s contract however will be expiring when he is 29 years old. So he is technically negotiating from that starting point.

Nelson got 6 years @ $36 million.

I would gladly take Kreider at a $6 million aav. I think that is fair for both sides for Kreider at 29. May end up between $5.75-$6.25 range. On the $6.25 end it would depend on term for me. Would he be willing to do 5 years @ $6.25 aav.

Kreider has been the more impactful player almost his entire career and has a much longer track record. If I’m his agent, it’s $7m per season, easily

No this is bad news for those who think Kreider is going to come cheap.

He is the superior player. If they keep him next year with out signing him he's going to do pretty good things in a contract year, which will only further bump the asking price up.

It’s like people don’t realize that players like Hayes are decent or even good but ARE expensive when they hit UFA... we are trying to build something here with our own team and doing it correctly through the draft and in unison so we don’t have to A) pay ridiculous prices for our own decent or mediocre players
And
B) don’t have to spend ridiculous prices to get them via UFA... UNLESS it’s the very last option.

No Jagr? The guy is STILL playing.

Regarding Panarin or any other elite level talent.

I am and always will be of the mindset that you acquire them any way you can. If it's free via the Draft or Free Agency or if there's a smart trade available.

Get that elite talent in the door

But the numbers are similar right now and Kreider is older. Kreider will also be due his new contract at age 29.

I dont know i think its close to there just like the rumor of Anders Lee.

Why isn’t Dubinsky on this list

Dubinsky is 33, has a 5.85 mil cap hit for the next 2 years, and has 30 points in his last 133 games.

Even at half price for future considerations, do you really want him?

Still very curious if such a DEFCON 1 scenario plays out with Shea Weber whose recapture penalties are various astronomical numbers

You never know, but I firmly believe that there has never and will never be an NHLer who has played 15 years in the league and cannot walk out of the Dr's office without a clean bill of health. These guys enters that territory when they are 20-25, not 30-35 with the odd exception going towards 40, the odd exception might go to 25...

There is no way that all parts like knees, hip, shoulders, brain and what not will be in such state after 15 years in the league that the doctor don't put you in the -- 'sure you can keep playing, but it will cost you when you grow older because you already has damaged xxxx' cathegory. And that is enough to go on LTIR. Permanent damage that only will get worse.

he said he'd need to have a long convo with Hank this summer to align their goals which makes sense since he's been on the job for like 4 days or something and Hank's been doing stuff.

anything else is speculation

Why do the Rangers have to align their goals and plan with their 37 year old goaltender?

Their goals and plans are different. Both sides say the right things. There is tension under the surface. JD knows there is an issue there. It’s ridiculous because Hank is just a player. JD made the Lundqvist comments on Michael Kay’s show. I was watching it live on YES. They should have pushed him to give more details. Ask him a follow up.

This has been going on for a while. Lundqvist made those comments to Weekes before he left for Slovakia. He wants to know what will be his role and their plan for the team.

Lundqvist made comments to the Swedish media when he arrived in Slovakia. He sent Brooks an email to clarify what he said. We know what he said. He questioned the Rangers commitment to him.

Lundqvist wants to start nearly every game and he wants the Rangers to acquire his buddies like Karlsson. He doesn’t want to split the games or play less than 50% of the games. His years are winding down and he doesn’t want to finish out his career playing on a rebuilding team which is what the Rangers are.

JD told Gorton to keep pushing the rebuild.

There is an issue here. They can say the right things. The Rangers have Georgiev and Shesterkin. Lundqvist was awful in the 2nd half. He was terrible in the World Championships for Sweden. His save % was .88. He is no position of strength to start demanding things from the Rangers.

The Rangers owe Lundqvist nothing. Hank is lucky he got the 7 year contract extension from the Rangers. The Rangers didn’t want to give him 7 years. They were looking at 4 or 5. The contract would have been done next month if it was 5 years.

Wouldn’t Holland take Smith back at 50 for Manning ? Rangers send him to AHL?

They have Gagner and Manning, both of whom have 1 year left.

I'd trade Smith for both to cut down on the amount of years. Gives Edmonton another defenseman who can actually play NHL level hockey.

I agree 100%. And if Hank is going to pout it will affect his play. I will stand by my assessment that Hank wants an extension. His value will only go down as we integrate the young-ins. Any move will have to be salary retention and not much for us as compensation.Aging elite athletes are never easy to deal with and Hank is going to feel some painful rejection.

DO the Rangers really need to suck next year? There's a ton of talent coming through the pipeline and I'm struggling to understand why we need to "keep collecting assets"...

After June, we'll have made 7 1st round picks in the last 3 drafts, the potential for that to be 8 if Kreider is traded.

Beyond Kreider, there's nothing else left to trade... What are you guys expecting this team to do? Even guys on 1-year contracts--the best we could hope for is another Grabner situation where the guy comes in, plays over his head, and then recoups and 2nd and a prospect that is years away... Other than that, all we have is a couple of role players that are worth no more than a couple of 2nds/3rds/4ths...

I'm just not seeing the point in trying to continue to stockpile assets. I think asset collecting as a whole should never stop, but we've put asset collection into high gear the last few years, and at this point I'm not understanding what another "top 10 pick" will do unless it's a lottery winning pick... Zbad's contract also has some implications, there are only 3 years left on it. What do we do with him when he hits UFA?
