A name I haven’t heard brought up on these boards yet is Alex Wennberg.what do you guys think of him? His value is low right now and I feel rangers could get him cheap. He’s still young and worth the gamble I think. I would consider swapping pionk for him straight up.

I want Pionk gone, so I'm down.

I'm also always interested in reclamation projects.

He has only three years left before he is UFA. He is gone after that. He will be 29 years old then. Older than Panarin is now. Even a month older than Karlsson is now. Do you think Rangers will resign him?

Most likely is he traded within a year or two. If the rebuilding continues there is no point in keeping him. He will most likely be traded for a young defense man.

much how we flipped Brassard for zibanejad, i can see us moving zibanejad in the same manner.

Bad player who got overpaid on a long term deal because he had a ton of powerplay assists one year as a 22 year old. He will struggle to score 10 goals per year since he never shoots. He's like a David Desharnais type but better defensively.

Except Zibanejad is already much better than Brass ever could've dreamt to be. And I freakin’ loved Brass. We would get a haul if Ziba repeats this season.

He’s money from Ovi’s office. Love that ****.

You don’t trade 1 line centers unless you are just starting a rebuild. Rangers are too far into this thing to consider trading Mika. Would be stupid imo

Absolutely & Ziba just began his prime. You don’t trade that. And the Rangers brass and Ziba himself all keep mentioning the phrase “Other level.” I believe that, especially with everyone growing and Kravys playmaking ability. I, along with the rangers and Ziba himself, think he’s about to go off this year.

Gorton spoke to Carpiniello

JD said no shortcuts last week.

Carp also said something very telling (or maybe it was to me at least) in the comments of his Athletic article.

Someone was speculating about who the Rangers would protect in the expansion draft: Chytil, Kreider, Ziba, Andersson, Howden, Buchnevich & Lemieux would be your protecteds up front. This person also mentioned finding a spot for Sean Day

This was Carp's response:

Day. LOL. ... also a gigantic leap of faith to think Kreider and Buchnevich will still be here and protected.

Someone then asked Carp to predict the opening day roster

working on that. hoping to get a clue on whether 89 or 20 will still be around.

I'm guessing that's more speculation on his part than insider knowledge. I see no reason to trade Buch, especially if we are trading Kreider.

Anyone else out there feel this could be Buchs breakout year? So many guys on this team that this could happen to. It’s very interesting, tons of uncracked talent that’s clearly always been there.

It better be because if it isn't I think he's a goner.

You also can't keep being afraid of losing players for nothing. Trading Mika the way we traded Brass just sets us back another step. Sometimes, you have to have faith that a guy will be loyal and stay. In those 3 years, we'll be ready to be coming out the other side, why wouldn't Mika want to be a part opf that? Espcially when theRangers saw him as a piece worthy of building around during the process. I'm obviously not in his head but if I were his, I wouldn't leave just as things are getting good, when I put in so much work to get the club to that point. I'm betting he'll want to be here to reap the rewards of a proper process.

So Mika becomes UFA but decides he wants to stay. He'd be 29. What sort of contract do you give him? He'll get 6-7 years on the market. Do you want to pay top dollar to Ziba on a contract that takes him to 35-36. I sure as hell don't.

Jarmo wouldn't. I think he can definitely turn it around under the right circumstances. Wennberg getting dealt is more likely if Duchene re-ups in Columbus.

I actually can see him going to a RD. Won't shock me if he does but I could also see an extension.

I think Kreider is probably a goner.

Buch to me, is probably more of a wait and see. The Rangers are going to be looking for scorers. If they feel Buch can pick up where he left off late last season, and hit that 25 goal, 55 point, they'll want to hang onto him --- or at least see if they can sell higher.

Wennberg is pretty awful, wouldn't even bother. He literally doesn't shoot.

Right time to trade him is now, coming off a career season and still has 3 years left on a great contract. Doesn't fit the timeline, and could probably move him to Colorado for Turcotte/Zegras who will.

I am in that camp as well. Though with the infusion of new talent he shouldn’t have a problem. I think he or one of the sophomores breaks out this year. It would be amazing if that happened along with Kravs & #2 showing up and playing well. This is one crucial season from a developmental standpoint - all across the board.

You cannot run a team of all kids out there. You need veteran leaders. ZBad could very well be viewed as such a player who will be here on the other side of the rebuild.
