If the potential Lee deal at $42/7 years is the comparable for Kreider ($6 mil aav) then I am all for extending him.

6 years x $6 mil aav

Or

7 years x $5.8 mil aav.

Trade Vesey and/or Nams to recoup cap space.

There is no way Lee is getting 6 mil. There is no way Kreider is getting less than 6 mil. Lee is one of the best goal scorers in the NHL. He will get between 7-8 mil per. Unless he takes a super team-friendly Isles deal.

But rest assured Mark Stone’s eight-year, $76 million deal with the Golden Knights, carrying an annual salary-cap hit of $9.5 million in a no-tax state, will be used as a comparable. And even though Lee is not in the same realm as Stone, that will be a starting point for negotiations. Add in the gap in term, and it’s clear how reaching a deal might be a tougher situation than first anticipated.

Lee is one of only 15 players to score 100 or more goals combined the past three seasons, highlighted by his 40-goal performance in the 2017-18 season playing in the wide-open style of Doug Weight.

Can you imagine what our roster looks like this off-season according to the beat:

Kreider Point (offersheet) Panarin (FA)
Kravtsov Malkin (Trade) Kakko
Chytil Zibanejad Buch
Fast Andersson Strome/Howden

Karlsson(FA) Fox
Skjei Shattenkirk
Staal Hajek/Pionk

Brooks said the 20th overall would not be something NYR is parting with for Malkin. So lets overpay and say 20th and Vesey/Namestnikov :)

Well, I'm excited.

The offersheet for Point and then signing Karlsson is not happening, so get less excited.

Eh, I'd go 7 years on a guy like Trouba. If the process was further along, I'd consider it on a guy like Panarin.
Were there a trade-off for salary, I guess it's not crazy. But I'd prefer paying a bit more yearly salary for fewer years.

Yes! I've been wanting to see Karlsson spend his retirement years on the Rangers.

It's not enough to have only watched the decline of Stevens, Naslund, Bure, Richards, Lindros, Shanahan, Gretzky, Messier part 2, Boyle, Redden, Drury, Eric Staal, Shattenkirk.

I need to see more.

None of those things are happening.

Bob McKenzie said Skinner is looking for 8 years and at least $9M per from Buffalo. Jeff Skinner??? He reported that in his latest podcast.

I can understand the Panarin interest even if maybe I wouldn’t do it. Was previously opposed but not sure now, Kakko is a game changer for the franchise.

Karlsson makes zero sense on numerous levels.

Funny, while I'm against signing both, I would argue EK makes more sense than Panarin. We look pretty good on the wings. Our top 2 prospects are wingers. We have Buch who seems to finally be hitting his stride. LA, Chytil, Kreider (although I hope he's moved), etc. All guys who are either producing currently in the NHL, or will be next season.

Our defense is by far the worst area and the most in need of actual NHL talent.

Smith, Staal and to a lesser extent Shatty are past it and have no future with this team. We are just waiting for them to be traded or for their contracts to expire.

Skjei is meh. An overpaid 2nd pairing guy at best, at worst a 3rd pair guy.

I have high hopes for TDA, but he's still got a lot of question marks around him.

Lindgren, Hajek, etc. showed some promise this year, but are hardly sure things.

Then we have a bunch of decent prospects, but really no one who can be counted upon to be a game changer and are still more than a year off from making an impact at the NHL level. Lundkvist, Miller, Rykov, etc.

Of course, the reality is EK is a rapidly declining, oft-injured, former mega-star who will be overpaid and will almost certainly under-perform, perhaps for the length of the contract. It will almost surely be a disastrous signing for whoever pays him.

Still, I think our D needs addressing far more than our wings.

Makes Panarin look like a bargain.

'Looking for 9 mil' does not mean he will get it. Skinner had 40 goals last year. Panarin is almost sure to get 11 million. I don't see how it makes him look at all like a bargain. 2-3 mil of cap space is a huge difference. Not to mention, we have no idea what the final number with be on Panarin.

Wow. That's insane. That would be a huge leap of faith. Talk about buyers remorse.

My comment was somewhat tongue in cheek. Skinner will go back to being a 25 goal player after he signs his next big, fat contract. I actually wouldn't rule out him going back to Carolina. I don't think he'll get $9 million either, but 7.5-8 on a multiyear deal definitely isn't out of the question.

Same with Panarin. He may be asking for $11 million per year, but I don't think he gets it. $10-10.5 million, depending on where he goes.

Let FLA take Panarin , just she’s salary this year if possible w Smith , Shatty

Move Kreider , Vesey , Fast , Namestnikov eventually

Take Callshan back for a young asset or pick bump

Lucky for Buffalo we have nice Kreider to give them to replace Skinner.
Assets for Kreider at 2.3M for a year then 7 years at ~7M or Jeff Skinner for 9M/8?

I’d rather trade for Kreider if I’m Buffalo. Would have to be sure about him re-signing, though.
