If the Rangers want the games to start to matter fix the defense because they won't matter a lick with the defense we currently have.

Probably won't be a difference-maker next year, but long term...

What are the odds/chances that Lundqvist will suffer a freak rollerblading accident over the summer and will decide to retire early?

I was just thinking, if all goes as expected, we’re basically getting Kakko, Kravtsov, Fox, Shestyorkin, and potentially more players on this team all in one year. I mean, teams are lucky if one or two of those caliber rookies join them in one year. I’m not saying these guys will be difference makers right away, but this is the Chytil, Andersson, Howden, and Hajek situation last year on steroids.

If Shattenkirk proves he belongs on the PP, then he should play on it.

Fowards are people too, and you owe it to them not to gimp them. It's also bad policy to hand people undeserved ice time for any reason.
If anyone didn't deserve PP time last year it was Shattenkirk.

I have insider sources who have it on very good authority that Gorton got Hank skiing tickets for the full month of June down the Hunter Mountain.

Pfffftttttttt....... You savage ****’s.

Lundqvist is Theon Greyjoy, (But with balls) who sacrifices his life protecting Bran Stark and the whole human race.

That’s how HL deserves to go down. Fighting, just like he has his entire career.

What on earth is this Malkin rumor?!? I know he’s always wanted to be a Ranger at some point in his career. Is this even a real thing?

I'll consider it if Pittsburgh retains 50% and they take DeAngelo or Pionk in return. Malkin just doesn't fit the time line for us but that's the only scenario where I would consider it

Elliotte loves to speculate. In the latest 31 Thoughts podcast with Marek at the very end, Elliotte said the salary cap for next season will not be as high as thought and the Rangers would be in position to take on money from other teams. He made that statement answering a Rangers #ask31 twitter question.

He always mentions the Rangers with every big name high priced player. If the cap will be $82M-$83M instead of $85M, that will effect the Rangers too. How are the Rangers trading for and signing everyone and using their cap space for more assets? He always mentions offer sheets. Earlier in the podcast he said someone told him to stop speculating on the offer sheet stuff because it's not happening in the NHL.

Before Stevie ended up in Detroit, they all linked the Wings to offer sheet. Holland wants to make a bog move this summer. Yesterday, he said that's changed with Yzerman. They didn't mention the Rangers and offer sheets a few weeks ago. When it appears Detroit is out, let us mention the Rangers and offer sheets. Let's keep pushing that offer sheet narrative.

Elliotte thinks there is a decent and reasonable chance Dallas re-signs Zuccarello and the Stars love Zuccarello. They should re-sign him.

Offersheats are brought up every offseason and somehow never happen... it’s clickbait that’s been ratcheted up because the leagues looking at us to be aggressive this offseason and Toronto is the target, that’s a lot of clicks.

The only offer sheet the Rangers can actually go for, is the one that requires four 1st round picks as compensation because both our 2020 second and third round pick are involved in the Fox trade with the condition attached.

I also think its reflective what other managers in the league -- that Friedman does talk with -- think of us. And who can fault the GM that looks at us having refilled the cupboard and having (seemingly) some mobility and fears that we will jump in and target the same guys he will target.

The PO effect will not be big, its there but the extent of it is just baseless speculation by Friedman. I have a hard time seeing it affecting the cap more than at most 500k. The NHL aren't paid by the viewer of a SCF game. Its not like the arenas won't be sold out.

The last years the HRR has grown more than expected every year, increases are made all across the board according to Bettman. No reason to expect that to stop. The Cap has been held in shack because the NHL and the PA has agreed on lower cap increases to keep back players being forced to have some of their pay put in escrow. Escrow is basically not an issue anymore, there is what a percent or a little more that the cap is improved with the inflator.

Why would you want him to retire early? For capspace during a rebuild? It’s one thing to want to trade him for futures, entirely another to wish ill on him just for meaningless cap space.

There isn’t an offer sheet for Marner that he would sign that Toronto wouldn’t match. And he’s really the only RFA out there worth the price in picks.

Prior to the trade we had more theoretical options, now even after this trade people either can’t comprehend that or refuse to acknowledge it. Im glad the option is pretty much off the table at this point a 4 firsts offer sheet is insane.

Under

Malkin said early in his career if he could play anywhere else it would be for the Rangers. And sure enough now the rumors are he’d waive for the Rangers or Panthers (think he’s got a place in Miami)
Not the right time. He will be 33 next season. Acquiring him and his bloated contract would be a move just like the ones we made in the early 2000s. And it would require us trading something to get him.

At least with Panarin he is 27/28 and wont cost any of our assets.

they want games to start to matter based on what? the media that claimed we'd be after big name targets last year claiming the same thing?
Maybe based on Friedman or someone else talking to someone within the organization? Sure they could just be speculating, but I am going off that they talked to someone. And if thats the case then maybe the plan has shifted a bit since getting the #2 pick. Not a drastic shift, but shifted. Not drastic where we start moving picks and prospects to add. Absolutely not. But maybe they are leaning towards 60/40 of re-signing Kreider as opposed to 50/50
