I think they’re going to keep Fast personally. He’s not a Hayes type where you know he’s getting paid big time if you want to keep him. He’s so important to this team imo, especially with a young roster.

Pool party is interesting but I suspect Edmonton has delusional ideas about his value and we’d need to take a real gamble to get him.

You aren't getting Puljujarvi for a 3rd and a prospect. The Oilers have made that abundantly clear.

Also, you aren't signing Kreider for 6-7M for 6-7 years because a.) the Rangers can't do it, even close, under the cap and b.) he's not worth that, no matter how important he is "in the room". By all accounts, leadership isn't an issue in the Rangers locker room
Yea we’ll see about that. They have asked for a 2nd and havent gotten it, even with his play overseas.

We’ll also see what Kreider’s worth is to this team. But even if they do deal it him, it wont be happening in the first week of November after two good wins.

I'd like to see the math where you can make a Kreider contract work next year for the Rangers.

Also, the primary asset here is the 1st round pick, not Puls. Next year is a rock solid draft and another top 20 pick = another win. If Puls works out, another win.

I wonder if we expand this deal (i.e. Kreider gets included) if Darnell Nurse would be on the table. We know he was involved in a potential trade with the Maple Leafs over the summer so he's not exactly untouchable. Rangers could use a top-4 LHD since Skjei has taken a step back and there's no guarantee that he'll finish the season as a Ranger.

Plus, the fact that his sister plays for the New York Liberty would make for an awesome storyline.

The organization sees Howden and Andersson every day, and if they aren't believers in one of them it could be this kind of move, for another guy who's out of favor somewhere else.

Of course it's a risk. We haven't lost a big trade in this "Rangers era" the way we won Zib-Brassard and McD-Gomez.

Let’s check in when Chris Kreider waives NMC to go to Edmonton.

End of discussion.

Kreider doesn't have a NMC, he's got a modified NTC where he can choose 11 places NOT to go. Would Edmonton and the chance to play with McDavid be one of those 11? Hard to say. Certainly not "End of discussion"

Re-signing him, though, for 7 x 7 certainly IS "End of discussion"

When did I advocate re-signing him on those terms? Oh wait I didn’t....

And unless you are in the room with Gorton and company you have no idea what he is going to sign for. Thanks.

How has Lias not played up to billing? He has played very well this year in his limited minutes. His game is improving.

3rd round pick is max i would be willing to pay for a reclamation project
He was leapfrogged by Chytil, and I do not agree that Andersson has played very well. Anyways I am not suggesting that trade, just that if we acquired Puljujarvi it would more likely be Andersson going the other way than Kreider.

I cant name 11 teams people would rather not play for than Edmonton. I'm not sure I can name three.

In the room with Gorton and company? Who haven't made any inclination that they are going to pursue Kreider at all? Come on, dude. There's a range, there's a market value, and there's term and all of these are known quantities within a certain parameter. Might be 6 years. Might be 6.5M. Might be 7 years. Might be 6M. Might be 7M. Might be 5 years. We all know the range and, no matter what that is, the Rangers aren't in the running because of their cap space next season.

I have a pretty good idea that he's not going to be a Ranger next year and it's not because I dislike the guy. We'll see. Thanks.

I get that, but I'm not talking about a place where he'll sign long term, I'm talking a rest of this season deal. Kreider will get a 1st and a prospect at the deadline. You can book that.

Maybe? I would be more than comfortable with a 4th line that was Haley and Smith flanking X. So where does that leave Fast? On the third line but the competition is going to be hot and heavy for there. Plus, how much do you pay such a third liner?

To keep Kreider, that means moving Buchnevich. That is the math. Though to be honest, with Strome playing the way that he is playing, that complicates the picture. I 100% believe that one of the three will return. Am 50/50 on two of the three and there is no way that they go forward with all three.
Re-signing him, though, for 7 x 7 certainly IS "End of discussion"
Not necessarily. Trading Buchnevich would allow for such a move. Now, whether or not that fits in with what Gorton has in mind for the roster is a different story. Then factor in Strome and he field gets muddied even more.

I believe, and this is just one guy's opinion, that it will be up to Krieder. He IS a big part of the locker room and can be a big part of the leadership going forward. But a) he has to perform and b) his contract demands have to be somewhat team friendly. Essentially, he is going to have a choice of going somewhere for the most amount of money he can get or stay with the franchise and play with only team he has ever played for professionally and be one of the leaders on the other side of the rebuild.

Most people believe that he is going for the most cash possible and I would not be able to blame him if he did. But there is something in me that thinks that there is much to be gained professionally at times by staying pat. Guess we shall see.

When naming 11 teams, on the top of the teams the rangers would be reluctant to help out, and then the teams they are assuredly not gonna be in the mix for a rental/playoff run. That really narrows the teams, and the truth is, that is the Kreider market gorts has been dealing with for the last 2 seasons.

There’s a reason it’s teams like colorado, nashville, Boston we’ve heard gorts linked too. You think gorts has the whole league to trade with but it’s really not like that at all in reality.

my only ask is that in the unlikely event that we do get him everyone MUST learn to spell Puljujarvi cause I already want to poke my eyes off and quit the board reading 'pool party'
Sticky this.

I'd offer a 3rd+ a minor prospect like Day or Gettinger for Pulju. Oilers probably wouldn't accept- but that's where I'd start the conversation.

I do think it's a worthwhile gamble if the price is low. I'm not worried at all about his position, NYR can easily field 3 scoring right wingers in Kakko, Buchnevich, Puljujarvi
