Hayes isn't a special player. On average, every team in the league has at least 2 centers who are on the same level or better (I'm saying on average... some teams have 3, others have 1. I don't think any have 0).

I mean this is another reason I think Hayes might have more value to the Rangers on our roster than he will return in a trade.

If nobody offers good value then I re-sign him and worry about shaking the roster out later.

Maybe. He is a unique player though in many ways. There are almost no big centers out there getting the job done. Hayes is very strong with the puck too.

There are many good centers in this league, of course. But they are hard to get your hands on.

I’ve never been a big Hayes fan nor hater, but I definitely think that he has played really good hockey the last month or so. Really good.

Carp made a good point in that the Athletic article, Hayes is playing well now and teams around the league WILL take notice if he keeps playing this well (even if the pts aren’t always coming at the rate they have lately).

And for me that just make it easier to move him, because it will surely show somewhat in the return we get for him.

In Friedman’s 31 Thoughts he mentioned the penguins could use Addison as a trade chip, send Zucc at 50% over for a first, Addison, and whatever short term garbage to make the cap work
As much as I want to get the best package available for zucc, I'd take a lesser package from anyone else before I helped the penguins win another cup. Pittsburgh is going to have to over pay and massively to get anyone from me.

Any trade with Pitt involves 2 1sts coming my way as a base for zucc if I'm the NYR. Zucc and Crosby would be unreal together.

I think hayes is playing well but hes still on pace for his usual 50 points. I mean to put it in perspective Howden is 1 point behind.

I loved Addison before the draft last year, I still do, I think he’s got the potential to be a star in the NHL. Pittsburgh can win 5 more cups with Zucc (they won’t) and I wouldn’t care as long as we got Addison

Edit: I was way more upset with Pittsburgh drafting Addison than I was with the Islanders drafting Wahlstrom or Dobson

That’s going to be one helluva big shake with Hayes if you re-sign him

I remember when Edmonton almost traded Mike Comrie to Anaheim for Corey Perry but then traded him to Philadelphia for Jeff Woywitka instead because they wanted to send him East.

Take the best package, folks.

There's something to be said for over-thinking a move or over-playing a hand.

While trading within the division is not often a preferred path, I'm not really worried about trading within the conference.

Addison was a kid I was very interested in last year for the Rangers. Had him 24th on my final draft rankings.

I love him, my jaw almost dropped when I read that he could be available already and now I’m in fantasy land hoping the Rangers can grab him.

What kind of player is he? From the numbers he has put up and his size, I wonder if he's in the Pionk/ADA mold.

Disagree. You should never trade your pieces under the anxiety that there is a technical possibility that you could face them in a playoff round at some unknown time where they may or may not perform well.

Right now he’s pretty much a pure offensive defenseman, but he had one of the best ever PPGs as an 18 year old in the WHL. He definitely needs work defensively, but I think a decent amount of his defensive short comings are fixable with time. I think he’s right next to Ryan Merkley from the 2018 draft in terms of offensive ability as a defenseman but he’s not as flashy and a decent amount of points come from just making the right pass and he doesn’t have the attitude baggage Merkley does. He’s probably got as high of a ceiling as ADA’s ever had.

What about the part where he is matching up against and often nullifying the other team’s top center?

Hayes is good defensively but it's not like we are looking at Bergeron or Kopitar. I think we are getting a little carried away with his defensive abilities, he's good but I wouldnt be overly enthused to see him matching up against McDavid or Crosby. So basically we are looking at a average point producer and a good shut down guy, like a Kadri maybe, though I'd take Kadri over Hayes. I'm just trying to be realistic about it, I dont think we are getting the kind of return we got from Tampa for him,as i said before theres likely a lot of teams that would take him as a rental, but I think a lot of those would balk at giving him 6+ mill next year because hes a 3rd liner on a good team, much like I believe he will be in new york in 2 years. The one spot I do believe he could fit is Winnipeg though. But that's just my opinion.

With regards to trades I believe we need to be looking for some scoring wingers, I think we have good center depth, decent d depth and a lack of good wingers outside of Kravtsov

Addison and a 1 would be a massive win but I wonder if they really want to add another pure offensive RHD. I don’t have a problem with it, but I wonder if the FO would target someone else
