Names has 6 points in 6 GP for Ottawa. Maybe he would have been a better option for 2C than Strome, Howden, Chytil or Andersson at the moment

Right now, I feel like I am more inclined to want to see Andersson on the second line than I am to see Kakko on the first.

Agreed. I'm fine with Kakko on the top PP unit, if only because I think it looks noticeably better than with Buch, but I'd prefer to shelter his 5v5 minutes.

I think at this point Andersson deserves a shot in the 2C role if only by process of elimination. That being said, I think he continues to improve and has earned the look as well.

stop being all reasonable

also putting Kakko on 1st after him looking visibly slower and the coach saying he looked tired would be sorta uh not how stuff works

Kakko and Andersson need to go to Hartford and feel the Chytil for their own well being. Get them as far away from the dumpster fire as possible. Howden needs to be banished

Call up any forwards not named Kravtsov/Chytil to fill the spots

I really want to see Fox and/or DeAngelo on PP1. Keep Trouba there if you want, but those two are clearly our most dynamic play makers on the back end.

Trouba is bad on PP1 and should be replaced by either of the two other guys. He shoots WAY too often from long distance killing the play. This comes back to what I've said in the past that I'd rather have a player with a bad point shot run the PP than a player with a good one. Long distance shots from dmen are a win for the team penalty killing. They are very low percentage. To be fair this is also a coaching thing. Trouba has a good shot and likes to use it. The coaches need to tell him not to do that.

You’re absolutely right but cap savings benefit outweighed this in FO subjective view.

You can’t play Howden at 2C and Marc Staal top mins and expect to win hockey games and that’s on this coaching staff. We do in fact have better options.

3 years ago AV was talking about Staal as a 7th dman. 3 years ago! Now Quinn has him as his top LD. It’s stunning how this coaching staff uses its players.

as I said earlier in the week and Brooks wrote today. Chytil has done everything asked of him in the A. Bring him back up where he belongs. In the top 6. To run Brett Howden out there when he has no business being there is absurd. Just absurd. He’s clearly struggling badly.

Disagree with not using him there but agree sometimes he shoots before there is net front or everyone is in position, something that can be worked on. An effective power play needs a threat from the point otherwise the other team collapses and cuts off lanes in the middle, it's been a problem for this team for a long time. You need to be able to spread the pk out by bringing it up top, if it's someone who cant score from the blueline it wont force the pk to pressure up top.

Quinn has zero problem benching everyone not named Staal last season. If he wanted to send a real message Staal would be sitting Thursday night. There is zero accountability when it comes to this player and I don’t understand it.

even CK gets benched occasionally but not Staal.

hank gets sat for multiple games when he’s struggling but not Marc Staal.

press box him at least for a night and recall Chytil demote Howden. It’s not that hard.

I remember it was around this time of year during last season when I cautioned myself about thinking about the possibility of landing Hughes or Kakko. The thought of landing either Lafreniere or Byfield kind of makes me chuckle now. Going to be a long season folks.

Oddly enough, this team has never had a guy who likes to shoot from the point and we have heard for YEARS how we needed a player like that.
