Stop suggesting that the Rangers acquire Lawson Crouse... HE ****ING SUCKS

He turned 22 this off season. He had 25 points in a pretty limited role as a 21 year old last season with nearly 300 hits. He’s got 4 in 9 games this year with 27 hits so far. I’d take that kind of player for our bottom six in a heartbeat, and if he develops into a middle sixer, even better. Still very young. 6’4 220, over 3.5 hits per game last season.

I don't think a large portion of this fanbase (or HFNYR) expected a great team this season. But the team made obvious steps towards winning in the now. So you're being disingenuous if you're sitting here trying to dunk on people who watched the moves the FO made and aren't firmly in the camp that we're still continuing a planned descent here.

"We're obviously 3+ years away and just starting our rebuild" isn't something I would think a FO who signed Panarin and traded for/signed Trouba would be wholly on board with, but that's just me.

We also turfed Zucarello, Hayes, Pionk and Shattenkirk. Replaced them with Panarin, trouba and Fox. In that we lost our 2c which we were replacing with a 20 year old who played RW last year. A lot was riding on Kakko, Chytil Kravtsov, Hajek and Fox all being top six forwards or top 4 dmen. It was unrealistic to think all those things would happen. The positives so far are that Fox looks great, Strome has continued his play from last year and Lundqvist looks revitalized. Panarin has been as advertised and Zibanajad is our most important forward. Outside of that it's just kids learning how to NHL.

Kreider - Strome - Buch
Panarin - Chytil - Kakko
Lemmy - Howden - Fast
Keg guy - Lias - Smyth

Skjei/Staal - ADA
Hajek - Trouba
Lindgren - Fox

I am assuming one of Skjei or Staal is banged up. It could be Staal. Or do they want to show Hajek some tough love in the DQ developmental process and bench him for the feces show vs Bostons first line (and running Pasta into Hank?). Or Skjei gets benched, which would be warranted (but not optimal in regards to eventual future trade value). We will know soon enough. That fwd group looks pretty hideous

Do you guys really think having 3 rookie D in the line up is a good idea? Of course Staal isnt going to sit.

Do you think it really even matters? We're playing for a top 3 pick, that's the way I see it.

And the only thing the Rangers should have a very good eye on, is the development of young talent.

I read in the post today that Quinn wants a bit more grit from the team.

I'm sorry, but if it's not in you to play that way specifically, then anything you get will be half hearted and short term.

You have to want to play a gritty style naturally.

This is a soft skilled team. They are going to revert to their nature of being soft and skilled after a short spurt of games where they try and play a game not suited to their nature.

There's a significant disconnect between what the coach wants and the players Gorton has drafted.

I do not see this ending well

Who do we want with the top 5 pick in this years draft?

The clearcut Favorite here is Byfield. The best player in the draft is Lafreniere. IMO thats your one two right now. Then you have Raymond, Holtz, Lundell, Perfetti, Askarov, Drysdale, Stutzle following in no particular order. Im ok with any of them outside of Askarov. The draft thread has been a great place for clips and discussion

Quinn wants them to win puck battles, get to where the puck is first and battle for it, basic hockey. He isnt asking them to be Brandon Prust, he is asking them all to be more like Fast,Zibanajad or a guy like Hagelin when he was here, you dont have to be a certain type, you just have to get into the battle. If everyone waits around hoping for a puck to come to them we will have a lot of games like Boston. A lot of these guys are kids but some of them arent, ie Kreider, Buchnevich and those guys are supposed to be setting the bar for the kids. Unfortunately the North American game is different than overseas and when you draft outside of North America there is a learning curve. These guys will figure it out but as I said it's more concerning that a guy like Kreider has to be told too.

When will we stop Corsi-scouting?

Three players that fan bases had very strong opinions on due to metrics changed teams this summer. Pionk, Myers and Trouba. Now Pionk is having a monster year metric wise in Winnipeg according to their fans, in NY he was the worst ever, Myers is having a monster year in Vancouver, Winnipeg fans thought he sucked, and Trouba is having a horrible metric years in NY, while Winnipeg fans argued that he was Norris caliber due to metrics.

Its possible to

for a while, but then reality will catch up and it undoubtedly have in relation to corsi-scouting-theory.

There are many very obvious factors that results in these stats failing to reflect how good a player is. I tried to point out many of them for guys like @silverfish and @ManUtdTobbe and co years ago but they wouldn't listen. Where are they now? Not at this place trying to run anyone away from the boards who didn't buy into their wild theories.

This is incredibly dumb, ur using a 10 game sample over YEARS of data to try and make a point that using data is dumb.

Not sure where else to put this, but..

Hooray.

Well, do these stats take into account the fact that it has been 9 games up until today or are they season-long stats? Because if you took into account all 9-game spans of all teams during last 5 years, the things definitely won't look that bad.

what kind of measured, logical bullshit is this?

I think there were a lot of people who chaffed at the concept of this team still having a ton of work to do, despite Panarin and Trouba.

I love this board, despite the head shaking moments that it can sometimes cause. But if we're being completely honest, there's a lot of examples of people sticking their fingers in their ears and going "Na-na, I can't hear you" when the conversation drifts from what they want to believe.

Yeah I mean I get that. But I think the frustration is mostly around how we suck, not why. We're kind of in a chicken and the egg moment here. Do we suck because the youth can't produce? Or are the youth struggling cause they're on a terrible team?

Which kind of gets at my point. I don't think there's a huge disagreement as to what the expectations are of the team. It's a disagreement on the measure of success (not points), how to achieve it (managing the kids), and other process arguments.

This isn't directed at you, but there's a handful of lifetimers here that love to play the old wise man. Hitting every thread with "I told you this was a bad team and that kids need time but you didn't wanna believe me" isn't valuable input. That's not answering or discussing any of the relevant questions. I guess those are my head shaking posts.
