Not that I think there’s anything imminent, but Kreider has 8 less games of term than he had at the draft. At this moment, his value wouldn’t be all that dissimilar.

I don’t think he’ll be moved until the deadline, though.

I was assuming a trade at the deadline versus now. They could have had Kreider for ~1.5 seasons instead of ~.5 season.

I
And you think someone is giving you a first for Fast?
C’mon man!

someone did give a first for Ryan Reaves. granted he is a the best tough guy in the league and no way he deserved a 1st. heck Paul Gaustad also got a 1st. i can see a desperate team like the Habs do something like that to get into the playoffs. some GM's are stupid.

You said they tried to do something around Kaut and Kreider at the draft. Had they done so, Kreider would have one year of term.

Values of players with one year of term at the draft is pretty similar to the value of rentals at the deadline... because while there's a lot less term, there's also more urgent demand.

I beg your pardon, you are correct, I did say the draft. And that stands true, I was doing calculations in reference to 2018 trade deadline. That is my mistake.

Also pro-rated contracts normally are more attractive to contending teams who are cap

In Namestnikov trade we lost one of the highest IQ players in the league and a fellow Russian who would help our young Russians, it was a weird trade for cap space since he only had 1 year remaining, I wonder what they're opening the cap space for? I think we're doing this to land a big fish from the KHL, Nikita Filatov. He hasn't played so far this season as he's in a major holdout that has the hockey world at a stand still, some say he's been waiting for NYR to clear up the cap room to pursue him. I'd offer at 4M AAV for 4 seasons. He brings the same hockey IQ Namestnikov had, but a lot more high end skill such as his unique skating strides & rocket of a shot. He possesses rare ability in zone entries, when he carries puck through neutral zone he has successfully entered 89% of time in NHL, which is highest of any player to play 50+ games. His puck control is magnificent and he is a meticulous craftsman who makes detail oriented plays that most people don't understand. He has the knowledge to guide Kakko's development and he is the type of player who would excel with him as they both have similar instincts, some say Kakko & Filatov are cut from the same cloth so to speak. Filatov got a hat trick in his first game so I think Kakko could learn a thing or two as he is struggling out of the gate, Filatov will instill more confidence in him which he doesn't have as you can see by the picture when the prospects went to MSG and Kakko stood so far away from them awkwardly

Filatov has a lot charisma and charm and could help teach Kakko how to pose in pics and look more cool, also he has been a bit of disappointment for a 6th overall pick but Zibanejad was picked 6th overall and has had opposite trajectory where he was late bloomer, I think could rub off on Filatov and he could reach his peak and when he's at his peak he is a force.

Nikita Filatov was underutilized in his NHL stint but underlying metrics were indicative of future success. First 3 NHL seasons:
CF%
55.2% (+3.5 rel)
49.7% (+0.6 rel)
53.1% (+3.6 rel)

He was smeared as not doing rebounds but 26% of his shots came from slot as you see on his heat map which is significantly higher than NHL average. He is a grinder player as well but people didn't think so because he had too much high end skill and he skated with ease, making it look effortless.

Filatov - Zibanejad - Kakko
Panarin - Chytil - Buchnevich
Kreider - Andersson - Kravtsov
Lemieux - Howden - Fast

Skjei - DeAngelo
Hajek - Trouba
Staal - Fox

Lundqvist
Georgiev
Nikita Filatov? The guy who was a top draft pick in 2008 and out of the league by 2012 because he sucked? The same Filatov who’s best season in the KHL consisted of only 40 points? That guy? We might as well give a call to Nail Yakupov, Nigel Dawes, and Marcel Hossa too. Smh.

I'm not sure Colorado will ultimately be a landing spot, but at the draft they were a little cautious because Raantanen was still unsigned, plus others. They now have more cost certainty. They are a budget team after all. Sakic is patient. He'll wait longer to identify needs.

I thought them being a budget team was mostly a result of their uncompetitive years and that they'd go back to spending when the team was solidly good again.

Would love to see something like Ryan Strome for Riley Nash

that would be awful. could have signed Nash as UFA. Riley is good but rather go after Radek Faska from the Stars. has some grit to his game and good on faceoffs

We need stability, someone that can replace Ziba on the PK (DQ is playing him way to much) etc.

Last thing we need is some suspect failed reclamation project with “upside”. Stability.

Strome is too weak.

Plus once for Brassard. I think we got the better deal.

agreed so under stressful times I can see a stupid team overpaying for Fast but underpay for Kreider based on the issues like will he perform tonight or where is he on the ice, is he noticeable? i can see some team offering the same for Kreider as they did for Zuccarello

Faksa is not a reclamation project and is a upgrade in center on the 3rd or 4th line spot and would allow Strome to play wing which is a better player at the wing.

Andersson takes 2ed line, Faksa is the 3rd line, Strome to wing and Howden 4th line where he belongs

Way to square for my liking. We need someone who can shoulder a line up to the redline. Provide stability to the bottom 9.

Cody Eakin type. Heck, Darren Helm is a guy I’ve always liked. Checking line C. Ziba leads a scoring line. A vet checking line C that can provide a little stability from a 3rd line. Two kids, and get rid of Strome.

I think I’ve figured out what’s happening with Andersson. It’s been twenty years since Malhotra and we’re cursed to repeat mistakes five times every century.

Lias is so underwhelming in every way possible. I’ve been critical of him and been met with those defending his game to the very end. This guy does not have it, there are no glimpses and I almost feel sorry for him.

Fast isn’t getting anyone into the playoffs.

He’d realistically get you a 3rd at the deadline at best. He’s a 4th line winger.

A healthy and producing Kreider is worth a 1st and a young player with limited upside or B prospect. He should basically land you the Hayes package... assuming he’s healthy of course.

I doubt you see any deals too far from those proposals.

I can't say I've seen much of Perlini's game recently, but would he be worth looking into as a reclamation project?
