might be at least to get Kreider going

I mean at its core Quinn is doing the same things over and over and looking horrible in the process.
Hasn’t broken up 10 and 93 to spread the offense.
Hasn’t given Kakko first line mins with a real center yet.
Keeps playing Buchnevich on the wall on PP1.
Hasn’t realized that Brett Howden is in over his head right now in the middle 6.
Hasn’t given Andersson a chance by default
Keeps giving Brendan Smith too many mins because he’s safe.
Keeps playing Marc Staal as his #1 LD

He’s moving peripheral things around a lot but consistently has failed to make a REAL base changes to what he’s doing that’s costing us games.
Just wondering if overplaying a few vets is getting plenty of time to boost value. Clearly not playoff ready yet, but this team will be better by December.

Those heightened expectations come solely and completely from fans ignoring what the front office has been saying. You think it added a sense of urgency, but no one around the team does.
If that is the case, it makes Quinn's decisions all the more puzzling. Because if he isn't trying to win at all costs, I'm not sure what his mission is. It doesn't seem to be development.

It's a bit hasty to say Quinn is worse than AV in regards to young players, but it is very reminiscent. I don't mind Fast getting shifts here and there with the top line. I do mind extended stretches. I do mind the snubbing of Andersson.

At least it would make sense if Quinn was all in on making the playoffs.

I don't think Howden was ever viewed as a replacement for Chytil.

What the Rangers are trying to do is get the Chytil you just viewed to play with that kind of flow in the NHL. It's a process, but it's not an unfair expectation for him either.

When Chytil is on his game, and asserting himself, he's freakin' dangerous. But I'm not sure it's something that quite comes naturally to him as a player and as a personality, so it's something that continues to be a focus area.
And that’s the personality trait we need to avoid.

Well apparently they did break up Mika and Panarin today

Strome centering Panarin and Buchy and Kakko gets to play with Mika.

it’s at least something different.

I still feel there is a deal for Kreider in Edmonton or Colorado , a good fit in either place. I'd prefer they didnt wait on it and get it done soon.
Hopefully Edmonton cause that first rounder would be much better but I see more likely Colorado pulling the trigger.
I’m still not sold on Edmonton. Super top heavy. On the other hand the Avs should be legit

I don't get it either. Maybe this is Strome's last shot.

strome has been playing well in his role because that is what his role should be. a 3rd line center or wing. so we immediately push him to a role he's not suited for. same thing we did with Fast.

i'm actually amazed chytil hasn't been called up. 5 losses cannot find a center I mean I get you want to send a message but this is absurd.

I think at this point its a good idea to get some of these guys going. I like 89 on a middle 6 line. I like kakko getting top line mins with Mika. that helps. I like 20 with mika too.

I cannot believe staal will get top LD mins again. just insane.

but this is a start

I'm sure some fans feel this way, I dont, because i see the the deficiencies throughout the lineup.

I dont know how you can say "no one around the team does", especially with everything Lundqvist has said publicly about being competitive again. I mean just look at coach, and the way he overreacts to what is just the process of young players, acclimating to the NHL., Benchings, players getting sent down, its BS.

Henrik isn't around the team. He's part of it. He's got the attitude you want your players to have... strive to be competitive, no matter the circumstance. And I wasn't including Quinn. He's handling youth development the way he feels right. And, by the way, it's absurd to think with his resume, that he doesn't know about "what is just the process of young players." He was hired specifically because of his skill involving player development. Benchings, getting sent down... all that stuff is part of ushering things along. No good development coach just lets players play.

Guys, Colorado didn't trade that pick in June because Newhook was still on the board. I doubt much has changed since then that they'll suddenly cough up Newhook for a playoff run of Kreider.

I'd rather just get draft picks for Kreider. I trust our amateur scouting way more than our pro scouting at the moment. Namestnikov was a huge swing and miss, as was Spooner. Strome was meh, but exchanging Spooner for him was a huge win.

That bolded would only be true if playing the kids more would actually make things worse. I don't believe it would.

I completely disagree that the moves don't seem to be about development. To me, with the limited information we have, development seems to be the only thing that drives what he's doing with young kids. It's certainly not play on the ice that's driving his decision with Andersson, for example. Whether it's something he and the staff are seeing when reviewing the tape, or something they're seeing in practice, the only logical reason for Andersson to be getting 4th line minutes right now is that they believe it's the best place for him to development at the moment.

You also have to remember how young the season is. Strome spent a few games in the 2C, Howden as the 3C. Then they rotated. It's been a few games. We might see another rotation coming soon. 90% of the season remains.

People complained all last year about how Quinn was handling DeAngelo. Turned out that what Quinn did improved DeAngelo significantly. The same was true of Buchnevich last year. Both seem to have regressed slightly in the early going this season, though DeAngelo seems to have righted his ship more quickly.

Maybe something around Compher? Can play all 3 forward positions, has some contract certainty, and young enough to still have another level of development.
Perhaps a 2C placeholder and Kreider replacement in one?
