If Trouba and/or Lindgren are on the roster Friday, they will continue to get boatraced. The team has quit on each other trying to stick it to Drury. I get that it's Christmas time, but they need to deal with the Trouba situation before the season gets even more out of hand. I find it hard to believe no one wants him. Retain a million or so and deal him to a team thats not on his list. Its addition by subtraction.

Once he's gone, slap the C on Kreider whether he likes it or not. I appreciated his F-bombs in the locker room after the Devils game, as opposed to Trouba's walking dead impression. Its not enough but its something. They need someone to step up and be a leader right now and it's gotta be Chris. Time to up the intensity and killer instinct buddy. Now or never. The season is absolutely salvageable.

At the least, call up Rempe, inject some life into this group, maybe they play a little bigger with him around.

DO

SOMETHING
where have I heard that before?

NOW finally there is an awakening!

Now the rest of you, don't be shy....

They did call up Rempe recently. They got embarrassed and he took a really dumb penalty.
I saw that. Checked out replay. He had equal right of way, did not skate around an oncoming opponent, and only put his hands shoulder high to protect his face. No aggressive action. League reviewed ad no disciplinary punishment given.
Twas a bogus call
BOGUS

kid like other kids makes mistakes but this was not one of them

Kakko is producing halfway decent totals this year. Let him cook.
You must have noticed by now though that he has one good season every two years. Pretty much like clockwork. Two steps forward, 1-2 steps back

Might be worth capitalizing on his trade value when the season is over if we have some reason to think this inconsistency will continue.

I expect them to pull out of this, at least to some extent, but does anyone think they have the fortitude to make noise in the playoffs? They need change.

Not without at least two new defensemen who can move the puck under pressure .

And if I’m Drury I’m not wasting assets bolstering this roster until your highest paid players show they care enough to make it worth it.

Is it a stretch to say Mancini and Ruhwedel are an upgrade on Trouba and Lindgren at this point?

I think Mancini is an upgrade on Lindgren today. No to Ruh and Trouba. If Chad played against the players trouba does he’d look much much worse. I don’t rate Ruhwedel any higher than a Steve Kampfer

Unless they can move Trouba I think the solution is to keep him on the third pairing with Jones. Replaced Lindgren with Mancini (Lindgren becomes the 7th or a trade) and go out and look for a guy to play in the top 4. Possibly a 1 for 1 with Miller the main return.

I dont disagree. I'm of the belief that Trouba remaining captain of this team is untenable though. They got called out in the media and collectively checked out, because thats what their leader did. Desperate times call for desperate measures. They need to either get him off the roster or strip him of the C. The team can't keep taking the ice this disjointed.

Alright I’m back. Took me a while. But really I just haven’t been as excited for the team. Haven’t missed a game. Been screaming on Twitter. But my excitement going into the season with how drury failed this offseason really left a bad taste in my mouth and frankly it looks like the players are playing with the same apathy I have after the disappointment of losing last year when it really felt like our year.

I think they come out of this. They have too many good players.

Shesterkin is playing like shit. That is half the battle. He’s nuts thinking he deserves 12 million when he does this every season. You can’t get paid like that for playoffs alone. He has to be a difference maker. He can’t set the market this drastically when he goes into tailspins every year giving up 2 bad ones a game for two months every season and most of them being in the first few mins of games killing his team. We did this last year. When u chase the game because your goalie can’t make a save u are going to look terrible.

The second part is too many good players are playing terrible hockey. They didn’t collectively become washed. Trocheck Panarin Kreider Mika Miller Fox even Lafreniere all are playing lousy hockey right now. That’s nonsense. They’re too good for this. They are. They have to figure it out. Usually this should get a coach fired frankly.

Lindgren and trouba should be gone. I knew troubas drama would hurt this team. You cannot be that bad in the playoffs wearing a C and keep the respect of the room. Then have the offseason drama on top of it? No way. He should have been gone one way or another. And at the least been stripped of the letter. This is a major problem. Drury needs to deal with today or tomorrow. This is nuts. Lindgren. Lazy move should never have been brought back him coming back from injury of course coincided with us turning into a mess. He’s a terrible player. Has to go immediately. The sooner these two are gone the better we will be. They are a major part of the problem.

Laviolette if he’s going to stay needs to get this team to buy back into his system because right now they are not. He probably should be fired. I like him but he hasn’t held guys accountable, they look like they’ve quit on him too. That’s too bad but he wouldn’t be the first guy to get a quick exit and we wouldn’t be the first core to run thru a bunch of coaches in this league.

Agree with all of this except for Laviolette. They have to move out Trouba and Lindgren and see how that goes before they switch up the coach again.

Do Something, Kakko! - Season 2, Episode 8: In the season finale, Kaapo, Filip and Alexis hack and pretend to be General Manager Chris Drury, proceeding to make a blockbuster trade that will forever change the course of the New York Rangers. Guest stars Dua Lipa, Kai Cenat and Wayne Knight.

What's the point in keeping Laviolette? The core quit on him. He's a garden gnome with a coach badge right now who polishes the knob of the vets who quit on him. How can they respect him after that? No meritocracy. How can the kids respect him? He has no ideas and no tools. A tough guy act from him now would make the players laugh at him.

Sure keep him just to keep a guy called Coach around and firing him is a bother mostly because they have to find a new guy, but this guy is toast.

What's happening now could've / should've been expected as part of the "change of guard" process. Look at roster building thread from 3-4 years ago - there were a lot of posts pointing to 24-25 or 25-26 season for this transition to take place. Most of posts were discussing a smooth transition where then prospects would take over the leadership roles while vets would be either be moved out or take smaller roles and everyone will be singing kumbaya. Was it going to happen this year and be far from "smooth"? The way team performed last year - the answer is no, the group should've had another last run with the pre-existing structure (and some obvious modifications). What we see right now is the reality of this being a painful process and both management and front office are both guilty in contributing to the internal discourse.
Re. front office. The current situation is obviously the result of what transpired in the offseason. Was Drury correct in trying to improve top-6 RW in exchange for moving Goodrow? Probably 90% of us would call it a proper move but with a (short) hindsight? Smith hasn't done anything better than hypothetically Goodrow would be able to do in that spot and Kakko was able to step-up and somewhat alleviate last year's issues at that position. Should Drury expected such little contribution from Smith? Probably to some degree based on how he did last season with Pens but underperformance from Zibanejad is surely a big contributing factor. However the large issue is that waiving Goodrow (as a loophole to dealing with his contract trade restrictions) and then fiasco with the failed attempt at moving Trouba created this internal locker room discourse.

There are a couple of ways to deal with it at this time both have a big chance of on-ice results failure this season: move Trouba immediately and try to transfer leadership to a different group. Second - let it ride - make some sells at TDL and improve draft position for next summer and then make move impactful moves to replace the existing vet core.

There is a thread on Reddit that says Trocheck and Kreider are on Team USA over Caufield and Thompson. Wild stuff.

I don't really find that surprising. They have lots of good 5v5 scorers already. Kreider as net front on PP1/key on the PK (with Trocheck( is likely much more valuable to them then having Caufield at 4th line wing and a second unit PP role.

What is truly wild is that we moved for Trouba before we fully knoew what Fox was going to be, with the intent of Trouba being the #1 defenseman on a cup contending team.
