I always wondered if the Rangers could have somehow voided his contract if, after being traded, he refused to/didn't report.
How would the rangers do that. If he’s traded to another team, the team that he’s traded to would’ve had to void it.

I’m pretty sure the rangers had an offer that had us retaining nothing, and possibly even getting something back.
No team is gonna risk “voiding a contract” if they’re giving something up.
If it’s a cap eat? And they’re getting a pick for it. Absolutely.

I don't think it's that simple.....
Once he’s traded, it’s no longer the Rangers contract to void. As the other poster said, it’s the acquiring team’s problem at that point. The issue for the Rangers is he is untradable if the market believes he won’t report.

its painful that Carolina was able to sign a whole defensive pairing for less AAV than Trouba makes. Gostisbehere-Walker is the 2nd best defensive pairing in the league in xGF%. imagine them as our 2nd pair behind Miller-Fox (4th best in the league). we would be Cup favorites. Trouba really f***ed us for this season and we shouldn't forget it.
I assume you’re not married with a family? This isnt a video game. He’s a real person. Enough with this nonsense already.

He signed a multi million dollar contract. He got paid more due to us being able to trade him. With all due respect I don't give a shit about his family. Seriously couldn't two f***s. Does he give a shit about my family?

yeah i agree, "stuck" with him is probably a poor choice of words on my part. if i were GM i would've bought him out immediately and signed Walker.
I get where you are coming from, but remember, these are not special compliance or whatev they are called, which did not count even a penny vs cap

most of cap is a hit w/buyouts

I think the problem is who wants to take on an overpaid player threatening not to show up

a lot of players with families get traded, released, sent down… the parameters of his contract didn’t get him a NTC this season… he essentially circumvented the clause - or lack thereof - he agreed too.

So he did a good job of getting what he wanted then

I would love the Rangers to get rid of Trouba and his contract too, but he exercised a right in it. I can only get so mad at him.

Let’s be real, Gorton and then Drury made a lot of mistakes building the roster and the way they handed out contracts.

I guess it worked out for him although it’s a bit slimy. Next June/July we’ll hear that his wife just got a job at a hospital in NYC and she doesn’t want to leave it. Then we’ll hear ol Jake considers the jobs equally as important.

Then we trade him to the Islanders. Lou loves his vets, and would probably overpay for him

That’s what the $8.5 million each year is for!!! Come on people. He screwed us over putting the interested teams on his NMC.
That second part is completely fine. Thats what he negotiated for. Thats not "screwing us over"
Thats not wanting to move and following his contract.

Explain to me in what world, Trouba was "required" to leave a team off his "no trade list" just because we had a pending deal in place?

As someone else said, Trouba doesn't want to move, explained that. Told Drury he would block a trade to these specific teams (likely the ones who'd offered a trade) and that shut drury down.
The no report was a rumor that was unconfirmed and came from Brooks who we know is closer to a gossip columnist than an actual reporter.

Nothing Trouba has done would be classified as "screwing the rangers".

Am i defending his play? God no.
But he signed a contract. He exercised the clauses.
Thats it.

Based on what we heard from multiple sources including what Trouba said himself - sounds like he’s fully resigned to be moved next offseason. Plus with all new contracts next season - it’s literally impossible to fit his $8m under the cap so threat or no threat, trade or buyout - he will not be here next season. This is a bet I’m willing to take.

Why do people keep repeating this? He threatened to not report to camp with any team he got traded to including ones not on his no trade list.
