There is nothing incredible or cult like about it . It is good old fashioned Canadian style hockey !!! People like underdogs ...that is a given . Hockey is an emotional game and when emotions are shown...it is better all around for the fans and the players . Blood boils & tempers rise and you know you are at a hockey game . That was how it was designed to be played and if some hate it that much they should change the channel to Synchronized Swimming ~~~~ It was never meant to be a game for sissies . Fans love to see hard hits and blood on occasion . When we line brawled did you see anybody in the building sitting down ?????The advertisers have figured it out....Rempe commercials ! Other clubs have muscled up since he arrived.....it is great ! Fans up here in Canada this is all they talk about these days is Rempe !!!!

yeah a bunch of fake alpha men want to live vicariously through him

Rempe has a ton of potential to be a useful, unicorn type player. He's not quite there yet, but he's a 21 (22?) year old 6th Round Pick who's 6'8, skates well enough for the league, hits, and fights. If he can develop decent puck skills and situational awareness, which is extremely plausible, there aren't many or any players like that in the league. He's definitely worthy of a development investment.

I’m torn on this.
Rempe might be able to develop into an elite 4th line guy. He’s got speed, length and hits hard.

If he fixes his balance, body control (for reckless hits) and has a better understanding of defense, he’s an an above average 4th line guy.
The problem is that likely takes years.

There is some upside. But he’s also got some parts of his game that might not even be echl quality.
He’s already ahead of most enforcers as far as NHL ability and he’s a just 22 year old 6’8” forward. He’s nowhere NEAR grown into his frame yet. He’s still skinny as a giraffe. Hahaha. These guys take a LONG while. He doesn’t have his strength or balance yet… he’s going to be scary. Look at Edstrom. Just last year, still a year farther along than Rempe is now, he was no more effective than Matt was. Now we talk about him having 3rd line upside just a year later. Why would we make an effort to develop him? Because he’s potentially a unique player. When he grows into his frame he WILL be effective, hell he’s effective in some ways already.
I get some people don’t like him. Too f***ing bad. Hahaha. HE’S GONNA BE AROUND FOR QUITE A WHILE.

He hits and fights, but to say he skates well enough for the league is a bit of a stretch. Straight line he’s alright but you could listen to the entirety of Dopesmoker in the time it takes for him to make a turn.

His skating isn't a detriment in my view. He's not slow at all. Gets in on the forecheck pretty quickly, pretty quick to the boards in the defensive zone. But yeah his turning and agility can improve, particularly in the neutral zone. He's super young and early in his development. A lot of those issues are likely mental, i.e. he needs to improve his situational awareness. Probably why they put him at C in Hartford. I don't see the need to be like "he sucks" even if he isn't ready to play 10 minutes a night. He can be a very unique player in the league and we should all be excited about the prospect of developing him further.

That's generally the nature of big guys though. Brian Boyle wasn't exactly a ballerina on skates

He was a much better skater than Rempe though.

Rempe is about a week out from completing a turn that he started to take in a game against Toronto from last March.
This is massive hyperbole. The fact that a player has weaknesses he can work on, at 21 years old and at 6'8, is not a death sentence. This is a player we should all be excited about developing further. I don't understand the hate for him. Is it the media attention?

The death sentence is his complete lack of offense at any level. Brian Boyle, who he was compared to above, was the 5th leading scorer in the NCAA his final year of school. He had much better hands and could provide more than just going on the ice and being physical.

Brian Boyle didn't debut in the NHL until he was older than Rempe is right now.

Boyle was also a 1st Round Pick and Rempe is a 6th Round dart throw.

The two guys don't even play remotely similar games. I don't understand the comparison.

Rempe led Hartford in even strength goals last season at the time of his call up on February 10th, as a 21 year old

It's not a good comparison. That's why I didn't make it first. At the same time just look up Rempe's elite prospects page. He couldn't even score much in U15 leagues, U18 leagues etc. How many forwards like that in the last 20 years have become anything of use? I have no idea how big he was back then but I don't think it's needing to "grow into his body" since that hasn't improved as he got older. He's not going to chip in anything offensively so it's purely his physical play with nothing extra. He's not a great defensive player and he doesn't play special teams so what are you getting? A guy who plays 5-6 minutes a game on the 4th line who will score like 12 points a year and hit and fight? He needs to go to the AHL and work on becoming a very strong positional defensive player to have value. He is not developing playing minimal minutes in the NHL where he's just told to be physical.

Why not have Rempe and the opponents cement head. Fight at center ice before the game to satify the blood lust. Then play hard hitting hockey

yeah a bunch of fake alpha men want to live vicariously through him

Except none or few of these things actually correlate to winning. Maybe UFC is the sport for you if you care so much about something that has nothing to do with the sport or winning in the sport.

Eh, I'm not sure that's true. In terms of straight line speed, Rempe is faster and it's not really close. Especially when considering the players at the same age
