Hockey Analyst on Rangers' Matt Rempe: Lacks Skills to Succeed in the NHL

NHL analyst Ken Campbell shared his thoughts on Matt Rempe today, calling it 'embarrassing' that he holds a regular spot in the lineup for the New York Rangers.

it would be one thing if this guy was making accurate, correct points

any other pts aside, Rempe is effective.
Rs win games he is in by a wide margin
He needs full 4th line mins [10 or so per nite] in NHL
not 1st line in the A

so let's drop this bum like a bad habit
boycott him; consider boycotting The Hockey Writers
not for multiple pts of view, but putting out crap that is unsubstantiated

again, jettison Vesey

The idea should be for Rempe to get as many reps as possible; he'd do that in a top 6 role with the Wolf Pack.

No, that won't be his role with the Rangers, but at least he'll have developed his game more and be a more complete player, maybe play in the top 6 if a need necessitates it.
 
The guy is a bad AHL player and a bad NHL player. Why are we wasting time "developing" him? The forwards in the AHL that need big minutes to develop are Berard, Sykora, BMB, Othmann, maybe CHmelar. Not the guy with zero offense at any level ever whose entire NHL role so far has been goon, whose most important plays so far have been reckless hits that caused injury.

I’m torn on this.
Rempe might be able to develop into an elite 4th line guy. He’s got speed, length and hits hard.

If he fixes his balance, body control (for reckless hits) and has a better understanding of defense, he’s an an above average 4th line guy.
The problem is that likely takes years.

There is some upside. But he’s also got some parts of his game that might not even be echl quality.

I don’t think fourth liners suck. I think they’re given a role, and we accept that they’re not gonna be mcdavid.

What I ask from a 4th line guy,
Hustles/forechecks well, plays solid physical defense, when on offense takes lots of shots and tries to cause havoc.

Rempe can do several of those things well, but not all of them. the difference between him and edstrom is huge. And edstrom is a 4th line guy at the moment.

I’d rather have Vesey over someone like Brodzinski who does not do anything well besides skate and falls down. Vesey at least PK, can score 10-15 goals 20 -30 points, plays gritty game and sticks up for teammates and has some size.

I’m not seeing that at all. I’d argue the opposite.
For what I’ve read there seems to be the majority of the post have been about criticizing the player.
 
I remind myself that Trevor Gillies played near a full NHL season worth of hockey games whenever I feel shitty about it, but that was on a much, much worse team.

He's my pick actually for least talented hockey player to play more than 40 games at the highest level.

There is nothing incredible or cult like about it . It is good old fashioned Canadian style hockey !!! People like underdogs ...that is a given . Hockey is an emotional game and when emotions are shown...it is better all around for the fans and the players . Blood boils & tempers rise and you know you are at a hockey game . That was how it was designed to be played and if some hate it that much they should change the channel to Synchronized Swimming ~~~~ It was never meant to be a game for sissies . Fans love to see hard hits and blood on occasion . When we line brawled did you see anybody in the building sitting down ?????The advertisers have figured it out....Rempe commercials ! Other clubs have muscled up since he arrived.....it is great ! Fans up here in Canada this is all they talk about these days is Rempe !!!!
