So Mika gets rewarded with bad play by getting our best wingers. He will bring them down. Lavi is a clown.
I don’t look at this as a reward. It’s obvious that if Zibanejad doesn’t get going the Rangers won’t be good enough to compete against the true contenders (other issues aside). So I don’t have a problem with trying to see if putting him in between our best wingers will have this effect.

Not satisfied until Laf is on PP1. I dont want to hear the excuses. Laf is a better hockey player than Zib right now. I cant imagine an argument that Zib is bringing more to that unit than Laf would right now.
You’d have a stronger argument if Lafreniere was a righty.

I do not understand the wailing about the D pairs at all.

They have given up 33, 46, and 41 SOG the last 3 games. Of course they are going to go back to comfort pairings. Is this everyones first time following hockey or something.
Fox needs a strong defensive partner and unfortunately we don’t have it at LD. Miller is ultimately a better option for now only because him and Fox can keep the puck in the offensive zone but when they are defending - it’s where’s an issue.

Similar outrage id imagine.
Let’s see

Absolutely not. That unit is already 4 righties and 1 lefty. Now you go 3 and 2. It's more balanced. Panarin can shoot from that side. Laf can shoot from the right boards. But both of those guys can also play anywhere on that unit and be great.

You'd literally be taking what is one of the best lines in hockey 10-16-13 and adding the best net front man in the league in Kreider and one of the best PPQBs in the league in Fox. I haven't heard a good argument to not make this change yet.

That’s not actually how this works.

Adding a lefty to any spot changes where the pass is received and where it comes from.

Mika in that specific spot has a 1 timer because it doesn’t come across his body.
Laf in that spot doesn’t.

Laf would need to be in the opposite bumper for a 1 timer, and that’s panarins spot.

You’re gonna tell people that’s not how it works and then say stuff like “opposite bumper” lmao

When a NYR vet sucks ass for a long period of time the lines all need to be changed to “get them going”. When NYR rookies struggle out of the gate the team gives them a Brendan Lemieux and says pull yourself up by your bootstraps bud

that was my thread. the thing about Walman is that you're getting 2 playoff runs out of him at a reasonable cap number - one i think we can fit.
Yeah it’s exactly the kind of contract they need. It’s wild that the red wings had to throw in a 2nd to get rid of him last summer. Hindsight is 20-20, but we should’ve just taken him and the pick and non-tendered Lindgren

Panarin should be in Mika’s spot he’s gota a better one timer anyway

Panarin isn’t a primary shooter, he’s got a good one timer, but Mika does generate more on his shot than Panarin.

Said bumper meant circle.

And great analysis, bad coaches let kids figure it out themselves. Lavi doesn’t do that. The guys who’ve struggled talk about the film that they get shown.

So you want to criticize, that’s fine but assuming that Lavi isn’t showing everyone film, when everyone has called out how much film they’ve been watching, seems like you can’t figure out that Quinn and gallant aren’t our coaches anymore.

TBH I'd give it two weeks until this powerplay setup is just as good as the one we've been married to for years now

This is like a M. Night Shaymalan movie. You saw the Lindgren-Fox ending coming and then it guts you with the Zibanejad-Kreider twist.

No, this is much better than anything Shaymalan has done since Unbreakable.

And high time for a change.

If Zibanejad can't find his stuff this team isn't going to sniff a Cup. This team needs 2022-23 Zibanejad.

The team is incredibly lazy and supports each other incredibly poorly in the defensive and neutral zones, relying on a few transcendent talents to make things happen (Panarin, Fox) most of the time.

Until that's fixed, the subpar guys (Lindgren, Mancini) are going to look worse in a place where structure isn't being followed.

Professional dinosaur defense-first Peter Laviolette having the same problems as "What is an X and what is an O" Gerard Gallant tells you all you need to know - it's the guys who are touching the ice, same as it ever is.
We’re the New York Yankees on ice

Hopefully this gets Mika's head out of his ass. I think if he struggles here Tro is back up to the top line and Mika gets demoted to 3c. So, if it doesn't work out then he's finally getting the demotion he's been deserving for some time now. Kakko will be the more important player come playoff time. If he can stay on a line that is willing to cycle he could finally start feeling comfortable playing his game more, and his game is made for the playoffs. Hopefully, this gives a bigger bump in ice time to the Chytil line and they take advantage of it.

I think Lav is trying to split up the talent in the top 4 on d. At least Jones is back in and hopefully he starts to win over Lav.

I'm not 100% against the new forward lines. The top line got a little stale and we can't have one offensive threat which is technically our 3rd line and is full of a total of 0 star players. So I'm willing to see if we have more balance. Maybe it's also the fact that we haven't seen these lines fail before but we have seen the D pairs fail spectacularly.

No, the forward lines I like. I'm willing to try something new there.

Like you said, we know these pairs suck.

If Schneider-Trouba wasn't pretty good earlier in the season maybe I can see Lavi trying to spread the wealth. We can just play our successful top 4 and be done with it. But Lavi cannot help himself with Lindgren. This isn't a Daniel Jones situation there are better options.

Absolutely yes - it’s not defensive pairs where lefty rightie is a thing - it’s about 4 players moving around, the system that worked for the last whatever years so there’s no reason to f*** around with it.

We were #1 in the NHL in xGF% when Lindgren came back.

We're already down to 7th.

The team's response to this is a bigger role for Lindgren.

And then people have the temerity to wonder why there's complaining.
If sitting Lindgren was a viable option but it’s not. I don’t know a single coach who’d do it.

Honestly, I'll make a steel man argument for the 4 lines:

First line: Laf and Panarin have carried their line this year, I don't think Trocheck has been quite as good. Since they drive play anyway the downgrade won't be as significant. And really Mika SHOULDN'T be a downgrade. Maybe getting Mika away from Kreider will do him good.

Second line: Cuylle has been a beast but if you think Kreider-Mika have been toxic Kreider, who plays a north south game and is a better finisher.

Third line: Trocheck hasn't been as good this year but Cuylle and Smith have been good, if the top 6 works the is legit a very good 3rd line. I doubt it's as effective as the Chytil line was, but hopefully we get more production from the top 2 lines.

Fourth line: They've been good and are getting an upgrade in Vesey.

The D sucks, but with balance on offense I really really hope that and Igor is enough. The Panthers didn't have superstars on D and neither did the Pens beyond Letang.
