If we trade with buffalo, maybe shesterkin should be our bait. He can hide warts and get them to playoffs.

Shesty for levi and cozens/power.
I've been thinking that Buffalo would be a good trade partner, especially for Igor, but we may have to take back UPL instead. He just signed a 5-year contract @ 4.75 mil this past summer. They would need to move him in a deal for Igor, or in a separate deal, if they have any thought of re-signing Igor.

I was thinking Igor + Lindgren/Trouba for UPL + Byram/Power, and then add whatever picks/prospects are needed to balance it.

If it's UPL + Power and they prefer Lindgren to Trouba, we could add Reilly Smith to the deal to make the cap work.

I'm not really interested in Cozens all that much, for the same reason I'm not interested in Zegras or any other expensive center. We are already paying significant money to Zib, Trocheck and Chytil. Adding someone like Cozens without removing one of Zib or Trocheck, preferably the former, is a bad idea.

I would take UPL just Bc he has an awesome name haha.

I think trocheck is completely movable if u get cozens. But yeah Zib is still a problem, and will be for a while. Honestly i would dangle zib at 50% and see if there is a taker. Worst comes to worst its only $4m as dead cap space. You can definitely work around that. Minny is working around $14m in dead cap.

In a competent org, Drury would get fired before having the chance to turn over this roster. He has showed very little in terms of being even an above average GM. Letting him scrap the roster, watching him fail, and then having to truly start over from scratch is worst case scenario.
I go back and forth.

I agree that Drury hasn't really shown anything. At the same time, Gorton's tenure was soul-crushing and I'm not sure if anybody could have made anything good out of it.

Gorton started a rebuild and then did a 180 a year in and tied up a bunch of money. He basically told his replacement "hey, you have to compete wth what's on the team, because I left you with a bunch of big stupid contracts and terrible draft picks."

Drury did extend Zibanejad, but as much as I think that's a bad idea, there's not a GM in the league that wasn't doing that in the same situation. He was the de facto 1C and the previous GM already decided the rebuild was over.

Honestly I don’t even think UPL is a bad goalie. He’s been on a bad team his entire career but has finally started to pass the eye test individually the last couple of years. Getting a goalie who has some upside and is locked in at 4.75M with term in a Shesterkin trade wouldn’t actually be horrible for us. Trouba and Shesterkin would make tremendous sense for Buffalo, but I can’t see Trouba going to Buffalo. There’s a good fit for a trade though for sure.

Who would be your choice? Much like firing Laviolette, canning Drury doesnt do much beside satiate the fans bloodlust. It's also very possible the organization isnt looking to turn over the roster and more wants to trade 2-3 specific players.

You could dangle Zib at 100% and it means nothing. He’s not leaving unless he wants to. Full NMC

There are 4 players who if we moved/replaced, we’d go from middling to excellent.

That’s it.

Mika/trouba/lindgren

Maybe you also move Kreider, but at his cap hit he’s still positive.

If we were able to move all of them for players at the same cap hit, but players who were playing at that level. We would be cup favorites.

We have a lot of other major pieces this year.
Shesty is a bigger question but for next.

It’s not as bad as everyone says, but it’s not easy to fix.

I wouldn’t trust Drury nor does he deserve to run a rebuild.

But I also don’t think they’re gonna do that. They’ll move a few players and that will be the big changes

I think most fans expeced Levi to take over the starting role but that hasn't happened yet. I can't see Buffalo making a splash like this without some real agreement on Igor going forward, and the problem with that is the cost he's asking for. To lose UPL, Igor and then whatever else they include would be very bad for the organization, especially if you're still not sure Levi will take over the following year as the full time starter.

Trouba, Lindgren, Smith can go any day imo. Kreider and Igor trades you explore at the deadline if nothing gets better.

The Igor deal that makes the most sense to me is Shesterkin for Rantanen. Both guys are on expiring deals and their current teams dont seem totally inclined to pay them. But Colorado is desperate for an elite goalie and the Rangers could use a do everything forward like Rantanen who can be the guy when Panarin is gone (maybe this summer?) and the young core continues to grow.

With UPL and Kakko on the same team, we'll lead the league in strikeouts.

There’s no way Colorado moves rantanen out.
They’re gonna make one last push with this core and see what the cap moves to.
Landeskog possibly comes back this playoffs. That’s a massive shot.

Trouba bit is slightly interesting in that EF is confirming that Trouba is being very open about letting teams know he "would not be happy" with a trade now due to his family situation. Maybe he / his agent said he "wouldn't report" this summer, maybe they didn't, but the reality is this guy is stomping his feet into a full NTC for this season that he doesn't contractually have. Amazes me that any NYR fan defends this guy.

They arent winning with Fourgiev in net. Doesnt matter if Christ himself is returning for the playoffs.

It’s just fantasy management. Any plan that involves a deal with Mika is remote. A non-starter.
I mean why do u say that? Especially if things take a nose dive. Players feelings change, maybe a team in a location doesnt mind comes.

Zib controls his own destiny, but that doesnt mean he wouldnt accept a trade somewhere.

But yes it wouldnt be easy. But players have waived NMC’s before.

And quite frankly it is something Drury should be exploring. Especially since he already pissed off the team about kreider and troubs. If Kreider is traded maybe the likelihood of zibs accepting a trade does go up. We dont know. Yeah its a little fantasy we have, but it is also based on some reality of the situation.

Trouba is such a fraud. He was quick to let everyone know his ankle was broken after the national media made him a laughingstock in the playoffs (deservedly so). And he can say he "wouldnt be happy" elsewhere, but is he happy here? The guy has played gutless hockey all year. Some captain. Waivers!

Whole lotta nothing in that Friedman clip. Tells me nothing is close and won’t be for a while
You mean you got nothing out of Drury using his time to gage interest in the players since they aren't playing, when he should be doing that even if they had scheduled games?
