There has been this undertone of players potentially not accepting and not showing up to the new team in the event of a trade(even if on their list). That was heavily rumored this summer with Trouba. Last week Kreider gave a lot of very odd and specific information about his injury, which some said was an attempt to block teams from trading for him. I could see teams wanting to connect with these guys, even if they were on their lists, just to make sure they were on board and would be willing to come in and give their all in a trade scenario. I can't imagine a contending team risking getting involved in any trade that could get ugly, wouldn't be worth the risk.

I think you nailed it if the intention was to really let teams know they are available.

People ran with the Kreider injury thing for some reason but that story was a nothing burger. I’m not even sure that it was kreiders intention because those answers were the most Kreider answers ever plus I’ve already gone into why nothing he said really means anything.

Im sticking with his name being attached as an attempt to tell the team to get their shit together. It didn’t work and yeah it didn’t really work but at least now you’re sure about what kind of team you have.

This isn’t turning around with out some
pretty major surgery/igor being ridiculous. Playoffs shouldn’t be the goal (and even that’s up in the air, some of the slow start teams behind them have started to play better.)

Identify 2-3 vets you want to keep (add more along the way as you can’t play all kids) and move the rest. At this point a reset is as much about the mental side of things as it is the skill sets of the players.

Time to trade Igor and tear this thing down. I’m so f***ing tired of watching a team get decimated night in night out at the most important facet of the game. I’m tired of watching a team that has no idea how to breakout, no idea how to defend a cycle, no idea how to position themselves inside the offensive zone with the puck. A team that is the worst in the league in terms of puck retrievals. Its horseshit. I’d rather watch a team like Colorado with their goaltending situation any day of the f***ing week than the bullshit the Rangers have thrown out there masquerading as a contending team for a decade.

Get rid of Igor, get rid of Kreider, get rid of Lindgren. Thats a start.
So well said. It's really difficult to watch them fail to clear the zone over & over & over & over. And then they get in the O zone & the opponent has no trouble at all recovering possession.

Who is on Trouba’s list? Is Vancouver on it? I would imagine so. But if not, VAN needs defenseman.

Potential trade;

Trouba w/ $3 million retained, Othmann, Sykora, 3rd

For

Miller w/ $2 million retained.

Gives VAN a Defenseman that only has another year left on his deal, Othmann who is on the cusp and a former 1st rounder, and $1 million in cap space moving forward this year. Plus Sykora a former 2nd rounder.

Then deal Reilly Smith for a 3rd rounder + in a separate deal to open up cap space and a forward spot that would allow Berard to stay up. You then have cap space to add a defenseman at the deadline.

The other route is a similar combo of moves that send Lindgren and Smith out to open up the necessary cap space for Miller. Maybe you find a different spot for Trouba.

His preferred destinations I think were Dallas and Colorado. Definitely Dallas I know I heard that one.

To be clear, “some” was a rando on Twitter that you reposted here and said “wow I never thought about it like that”.
To be clear - you could use your own brain to come to whatever logical conclusion you'd like. I can see it either way. The comments were strange, but Kreider is also a little strange.

Agreed, he's been a 'meh' GM, but the question was solely about qualifications...
I figure he gets to do his rebuild now, and if he stuffs it or it doesn't work, he's out the door. He's used up his 'fire the coach' card, so he gets one more chance
Rebuilding is good. But imo a real rebuild includes improving scouting & development. Make sure we get the best young talent & that they turn into the best NHL-ers possible. We had something good at Hartford w Knoblauch, not sure what is going on now. Our development arm is staffed by people Tanner Glass & now Marc Staal? Jeez.

Thing is this takes time to show results. But it's the way to win. The alternative is do what the Rangers do, get top talent from elsewhere, don't play sound 5-on-5, hopefully get great goaltending to prevent disaster, make the playoffs but don't win. That style is tiresome.

Hi all, can someone give me a really brief, sparknotes version of what’s going down with the team? I’ve missed the last two week’s worth of games and it seems like things have been disastrous.

Why do we have to change the scouting and development when our best players are all homegrown young guys?

If that report is true, then this is the moment I now have no faith in Drury. I'm not a "this needs to be a ruthless business" type. Thats a good way to make no one want to work for you/play for you. These are people and they deserve respect. But you can't do something bold like that then backtrack immediately. You look like a jerk.

Too bad there isn't anyone out there to replace him. Maybe Brian Burke, but he is out of the game for the most part it seems and he is a polarizing GM. Some great decisions and some bad ones. Who else is there?

Team got their asses kicked in western Canada

Drury sent a memo to the other tams in the league after their 2nd loss in a row saying that he was open for business on a bunch of players, including Trouba and Kreider. Other names that have since been mentioned were Smith, Kakko, Lindgren and Miller.

Media frenzy occurred.

Team followed up with a dud of a game against St Louis at home, a loss vs Carolina that was less bad and then the shit showing Philly.

Barely beat Montreal yesterday afternoon despite the return of Kreider and Chytil.

TLDR: they played like ass, played like even stankier ass and then ended a 5 game losing streak against one of the worst teams in the league while still playing like ass.

From what I can tell, Vancouver seems more likely to move on from Pettersson than Miller. I don’t think they’re building around him at all… he’s become inconsistent and enigmatic and he still puts points on the board but he hasn’t been the beast he was in some time. It’s been rumored he isn’t happy in Vancouver, so maybe a change of scenery candidate, but right now I think Miller is more valuable to Van than Petey is.

I’m fine with Mika for Pettersson.

We're going to invest another 8 mil in the center position?

Miller turns 32 in March, has another 5 years on his contract, and we have no idea what's going on with him personally that has him away from the team.

If Vancouver is willing to swap Miller for Mika, I'm all for it. Spending futures on an older player who may not have the same level of success with us, at a position that is already filled, isn't a good idea. This team has far too many issues to be spending futures on win-now moves.

Trade away Trouba, Lindgren and Smith. Fine. But let's be smart about how we use that cap space.

Has anyone actually SEEN this memo/email?
Yes. I found it on the World Wide Web.

Why is every team but the Rangers allowed to trade or waive players?

Has anyone actually SEEN this memo/email? We tend to just run with rumors on this board. Like the Trouba refusing to report rumor that I’ve never seen anyone say they saw first hand or knew anyone who actually could confirm it. Looked like Brooks fabrication, and this memo doesn’t seem any more verifiable.
Let's use the freedom of information act. We deserve to know.

Extremely disappointing as a fan to see this be the end of the Kreider era. Ultimately his refusal to be the captain he was supposed to be is why we are tied up in the Trouba mess. A mercenary with motivations other than hockey becomes C because Kreider wants to be noble like Jon Snow and not take it. Now this group will be remembered for whimpering losses in the ECF and their declining effort when faced with reality. They aren’t good enough and never were. Jokes on us.

Drury is doing a job. I know fans hate him for the most part but firing him now is idiotic. Let him see his way out of this mess, they can always fire him once the season ends. Ryan Martin is not saving us.
The captain pick is irrelevant
