I was for Fox getting the C last time around. I get he's not super emotional and he's probably not the loudest voice in the room, but hes even keel, he's never too high and never too low, which is an incredibly important leadership trait.
The reigning SC champion captain is pretty much the anti-thesis for "a fiery guy". Now one could argue, that they needed some spark with that leadership which was added in the form of Tkachuk to take them over the top. Why can't Laf/Cuylle/Whoeverthef*** be that? Fox can be the quiet even keeled leader, and then you pick A's to complement him.

Most important factor is that they can lead on the ice, which hasn't been the case with Trouba and Zibanejad in particular.

I have no problem with the message, however airing your dirty laundry is only going to lessen your players value in a trade.

And the leaguewide message naming specific players? One former GM told The Athletic on Monday that he usually reserved that tactic until just before he was going to place someone on waivers. “You’re just making one last effort to get something back,” he said.

This quote from The Athletic is pretty telling. Doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies on Drury's competence.

In some cases, yes. However, I think there would be interest in both Trouba and Kreider that it doesn't really effect their value. Like with Kreider, there are probably 2/3 of the leagues teams calling for Drury about him. There will be bidding for his services.
Maybe, but unfortunately both players have limited NTCs which further complicates the process. I'd be shocked if either of them is actually moved before the summer.

The guy to jettison right now is Lindgren. It accomplishes two things...it sends a message to the room & the team improves, simply a case of addition by subtraction.

the thing I blame Drury most for is too much stuff ends up in the media. Trouba last summer, Igor’s contract demands, the trade stuff yesterday. I understand maybe he’s trying to create a, we’ll show him scenario but read the room dude. Stop airing the teams dirty laundry. Nothing good will come of it. You mad? Don’t resign Lindgren, Chris

He just gets shit done. The poor bastard hasn't had a good partner in his career and hasn't finished outside the top 5 for the Norris. Nothing has changed. The underlyng numbers are all still in line.

I do think there's some validity to the idea that this core is cooked emotionally, as well as on the ice, but my whole problem with all the "vibes" talk is the bullshit people are actually reacting to.

The only reason the "vibes are off" with Fox is because he hasn't scored a goal in awhile. Cuylle is suddenly being tipped for captain because he has 9 in 20. That's not how leadership works.

I'm willing to have the locker room discussion, but people need to reflect, and leave their reactions to scoring streaks at the door because that's what a lot of it is.

Kreider I think you could definitely move now. There would be interest, and his NTC is 15 teams. A match could be found. Not saying it's likely (or that it should happen), but could be done.

Cuylle is being looked at for leadership because when the the sea has gotten stormy for the Rangers this year, he (and Kakko) are really the only guys who have stepped up to answer the call. That's real leadership.

I love Fox, but I did not love his uppity reaction when he was asked last week about how they planned to turn things around. His response was that the Rangers had a good record. No bueno.

That shows signs of leadership for sure, no denying that.

That said, the leadership needed to be a captain isn't proved over just a couple months. It's incredibly difficult to sustain greatness over vast periods of time. Fox has done that. He's Mr. Steady back there. He's not perfect, but he's been consistently great for his entire career. That's captain level leadership.

He's shooting 24%.

When he gets closer to a realistic shooting percentage is he still "answering the call?"

He's a good player and has a lot of elements we need, but your entire narrative that he's taking the bull by the horns falls apart when his shooting normalizes.

Take a look at the guy with a five-year resume of never going below a top 20 player in the world.

I hope they wouldn't rush to name a captain at all until the team forms a new identity after a retool takes shape. Fox doesn't strike me as a guy who would care either way.

When did he actually "push it" though? The helmet toss and what? The only thing I can think of is his huge hit on Timo Meier in game 7 after he spent all series shitting himself on ice.

This is my big problem with Jake. He not only sucks ass as a defenseman, he's not nearly this "emotional leader" on ice that he gets credit for. And for what it's worth, i'd rather solid defensive play than lame ass temper tantrums.

edit: his fight with B. Tkachuk too I guess but that preceded the helmet toss.

I recall leading up to that game where had the helmet toss where he was attempting to be a heat seeking missile with big hits and fights regularly where it seemed like he was trying to bring the intensity up a notch.

I am not saying Trouba has been great, but he at the very least shows some level of emotion and tries to play a hard, physical game with regularity.

How many slices of donut in that span?

By the time this box is empty, i want Trouba and Lindgren gone.

EDIT: And, no. I'm not gonna wolf these down in the next 5 minutes. lol

Again, "don't rush to name a captain" was the entire ideology behind the current leadership that everyone hates.

Sometimes you need to put it on somebody and have them respond.

Fox is the guy that's going to respond to responsibility. Look who he plays with.

Actual performance matters yeah. Cuylle also had 3 goals disallowed because of reviews. He's a homegrown guy who seems to actually care. He carries himself like a leader. I know you haven't liked him but the only difference between his play this year and last year is that he got bigger, faster and more experienced over the summer. One of a handful of guys you could say that about. We knew guys like Cally and Dubinsky were leaders the minute they got the call back in the day, why is it outlandish that Cuylle might also be one?

Making Fox captain feels like a big mistake. He is a little too tainted by the veterans mindset. Let him just be our 1D without having to answer questions after every game. It would be McDonagh all over again.

Lmao this is why I love shooting %, save % and PDO because they are the VIBES stats.

I made a post awhile ago about how the difference between terrorist and freedom fighter is their shooting/save percentage and I will hold onto that till I die.

Stale Dunkin Donuts are no fun....I'd get snacking.

Also brings me to the point of questioning your donut choices. Although Dunkin's quality has improved recently, are there no local donut shops in proximity?
