I’d start rolling this immediately:

Panarin - Trocheck - Lafreniere
Cuylle - Kakko - Smith
Edstrom - Chytil - Berard
Kreider - Carrick - Vesey
Bench: Zibanejad

Miller - Fox
Jones - Schneider
Ruhwedel - Mancini
Bench: Lindgren, Trouba

Shesterkin
Quick

Time to send a message.
I'm not really sure that even makes us better. The only message will be the one where the coach gets fired.

Drury isn't sitting pretty with his job. It might not be this year but it's going to happen if this team continues to look bad. You can bench Zibanejad for a game or so, but at the end of the day, the GM will try to save himself before saving the coach.

a few things id like to add after reading the last 30 pages

drury is not the problem, could he have performed better in past deadlines? absolutely. but i dont place blame on him for having zib forget how to play hockey or for trouba being completely shit. hes drafted well and not given up a first rounder on players that wouldnt help us win. hes also NOT traded kakko or laf when people were freaking out about how crap they were. i think hes the right person to right the ship

whatever it takes to get rid of zib, trouba, and kreider needs to happen, id add lindgren to that list but his play is amplified but the lack of good defense being played by others around him. he (lindgren) is a fine 3rd pairing guy. the other three are our biggest problems right now and i think drury really finds himself in a position where he will trade them, the sooner the better because even though this team has played poorly they are still a playoff team with the pieces this team has

i have so much more to say but i dont want to rant too much, however laf should be the next captain over fox

Oh really? Like how we escaped Trouba’s this past offseason? After making it to the ECF and badly needing that cap space to build the roster for this year? Trouba who cost this team dearly against FL and TBL?
Yes really. The CONTRACT which is what this discussion was about is EASILY worse for Mika. We can escape from Trouba whenever we want with a trade to half the league. Slow defenders who hit are a commodity that dinosaur coaches want. We CAN'T trade Mika unless he allows us to which he won't.

This isn't rocket science.

Here
Who had on their bingo card that this core would collapse before Toronto's Core Four?
Thats a really important point however.

I think Drury knows there are some other clubs with cores who've been together for a while facing the same dread and they keep pushing it out.

If there are younger teams in need of vets or salary dumps, or "leadership" or a team that could be potentially poached, better to get out in front of this before another team does.

Although like i have said, the Rangers will have to give to get something of value for the future. Its not going to be a deal we like. Mainly because the garbage we want out is not only declining skillsets but also attached to a bad contract.

Perhaps something like a package of Lindgren/Kreider or Miller/Kreider or Trouba/Kreider or sub Kreider in that package for a younger player like Othmann or even Perrault to get pieces back. I dont think Gabe is on the table, but Othmann perhaps. Although as much as I like the kid I dont think he is valued nearly as highly around the league.

Actual performance matters yeah. Cuylle also had 3 goals disallowed because of reviews. He's a homegrown guy who seems to actually care. He carries himself like a leader. I know you haven't liked him but the only difference between his play this year and last year is that he got bigger, faster and more experienced over the summer. One of a handful of guys you could say that about. We knew guys like Cally and Dubinsky were leaders the minute they got the call back in the day, why is it outlandish that Cuylle might also be one?

Making Fox captain feels like a big mistake. He is a little too tainted by the veterans mindset. Let him just be our 1D without having to answer questions after every game. It would be McDonagh all over again.
It's not outlandish at all. I wouldn't mind seeing Cuylle get an A potentially at some point.

That doesn't change that this is Adam Fox's team and you're universe braining it.

Also, I find the recent pining for Callahan and Dubinsky odd considering that era of Rangers teams objectively (and not close at all) played their best hockey when both of them were gone.

Mandela effect?

Dubinsky was a good player. I think the teams that ended up making deep runs could have really used him.

They were better with out Callahan. I understand the love he got but he was the rare case where they moved on at the right time.

If it's really Fox's team, where was he after last nights game (also get used to more Lindgren). And if we're being honest its Lafreniere's team. His contract is the last to expire. He should be the captain. He's been a captain everywhere he's been and was lauded for leadership coming out of the draft.

Stale Dunkin Donuts are no fun....I'd get snacking.

Also brings me to the point of questioning your donut choices. Although Dunkin's quality has improved recently, are there no local donut shops in proximity?

We intended to drive farther to Maryland to get beignets, because we were in New Orleans, but got lazy.

I could be wrong but I think the team decides what players are made available to the media.

I don't know and I don't care.

I don't care who tells the media "we gotta get back to our game."

It's the most meaningless thing you could possibly worry about.

Nashville signed Alexandre Carrier this off-season to a 3 year deal @ $3.75m per season and he started in to that contract with a pretty rough first 22 games. He's an interesting option as a piece coming back for someone like Trouba

Pretty much in all scenarios, Drury is going to need to retain likely, even $1.5-2m

Those teams were trashed here too. "6 goalie system" and lack of offense were a common complaint. Also, if I remember correctly clearing the puck off the boards leading to sustained zone pressure in their own zone was a very common complaint about those Torts teams.

Actually the team was awful after dubi was traded with ani bc we had no depth. It forced the trade of gaborik to try to get back on track.

As for Cally, we traded him for a better player in St Loius. He was starting to break down too.

So this is kind of disingenuous on both counts.

While I agree it's not always indicative to on ice success, the bare minimum I want from a captain is the willingness to take the attention off the team and face the music when things go sour. Command the room. It is more important than many realize in this sport.

In this instance, I found it EXTREMELY telling that we did not hear from Trouba, Mika or Trocheck following what I'd call our worst loss of the season given the circumstances.

A leader speaks up and at least attempts to right the ship. Our leaders ran with their tail between their legs. The core has ran its course and they know it. And instead of showing some fire, they cower. Exactly the same mentality that watched them blow a 2-0 lead to Tampa, a 2-0 lead to NJ and a 2-1 lead to Florida. They are petrified at the thought of overcoming adversity.
