The Rangers don’t want to give McDonagh and Zuccarello contract extensions. Miller and Hayes are on the verge of getting big contracts this summer. Brooks mentioned the Miller and Hayes contract situations in his recent column. McKenzie also brought up those pending two contract extensions in the podcast. You can say the Rangers should not trade the above mentioned players unless they can get what they want. At some point, the Rangers will have to make a decision on each player. They can’t allow McDonagh and Zuccarello to leave for nothing. Hayes and Miller are arbitration eligible. McKenzie brought up the Rangers don’t want to married to certain players. A long term contract is a marriage.
I would give them both contracts similar to what Kreider got, with JT making a little more than Hayes.

Kovalchuk signing would be a Dark Ages move

An older guy that is on the back 9 of his career looking to make some money.

No thanks

If it's only for two years it's really not that bad. Someone has to be able to put the puck in the net. Can't leave Chytil/Anderson and friends out to dry or this rebuild is going to be no better than Buffalo/Arizona.

On a short deal that wouldn't really be a "dark ages" move.

They need some vets to insulate and bring along the young guys but I do agree that there are better players to do that than Ilya Kovalchuk.

Wonder if a hockey trade around jt Miller for rnh would make sense....

I wouldn't be against it. Straight up or does someone add? Rangers would potentially have RNH, Zbad, Andersson and Chytil for 3 center spots. Not a bad situation to have. Someone can move to the wing.

What would be more valuable though? A trade like that involving Miller or trading him for something like a top prospect?

The latter.

RNH comes with a heavy price tag and he does nothing for me.

I don't get the interest in RNH and Domi. These just aren't difference making players. They are no better than what we already have.
We're not going to build a team out of all super stars. Domi would be a good fit for now and the future. RNH is just helping oil get out of a jam and hopefully getting some nice pick/prospect out of it IMO.

Domi is just 22. With the direction the team is going in he would be a good add, depending on price ofcourse.

They just made a deal w AZ so they have recent history .

I’d deal Hayes for Domi. I think Kev will be like Jimmy and NYR will regret a long term deal

The price will be high, according to McKenzie. Arizona is unlikely to trade him. If they do, it won't be for Nash or Grabner. They are going to want a young quality player with term, which are the kind of players we should be holding on to.

I wonder if the Preds would be open to dealing Juuse Saros. Really like that kid.
