They’re going to need, if not a Matthews, then at least a Nylander to join an expected holdover core featuring Lundqvist (Repeat after me: N-o-t G-o-i-n-g A-n-y-w-h-e-r-e), Chris Kreider, Kevin Shattenkirk, Pavel Buchnevich, probably Brady Skjei, probably Jimmy Vesey, probably Mika Zibanejad, Marc Staal (if healthy), Lias Andersson and Filip Chytil, with everybody else up for grabs. Oh, hello Ilya Kovalchuk. That doesn’t mean that the Rangers are going to throw J.T. Miller and/or Kevin Hayes out with the bath water, but with expensive contract decisions coming up on the pending restricted free agents, they sure are going to listen if offered comparable assets.

I do think the Toronto model is feasible for us. Lias and Chytil are shaping up to strong impacts in the near future. Can we get our Matthews-esque talent in this draft with Dahlin or Svechnikov?

I'm listening to Hockey Central at Noon and Brad Trevling in on saying that because so many teams feel like they are still in it there aren't that many sellers. He also says that many sellers won't even know they are sellers until, possibly, the last minute. He did say that the teams that have gotten out in front of it and are willing to sell early can pretty much ask for what they want.

What I am hearing is that the teams at the top who know they will be in the playoffs may buy early from these early sellers.
Well, if those few teams know that they could use the big name player it could be a good idea to buy now and hedge your bet against a team in 2 weeks realizing that they have a shot (Carolina? etc.) and that team all-of-a-sudden bidding out the nose for that same player... and now the price is higher for a player you could have had weeks ago.

Three things folks. 1. Tavares is not coming here. This Narrative needs to stop. 2. I th8nk those posting 2 blue chip prospects and 2 number 1s for McD are SERIOUSLY overvaluing him and 3. How about McD and Miller + to Ottawa for EK. Him and shank reunion. We get our captain and #1 D

Both McKenzie (Bobcast) and Dreger (Insider Trading) have mentioned Kreider.

I have no doubt that teams have asked about him; I have serious doubts about him actually being moved.

These guys are mouthpieces. Kreider is a name. Also, they are likely getting their information from scouts and lower front officer personal that aren't affiliated with the Rangers. Those guys likely just hear that their team is/has asking/asked about Kreider. These guys just take that and run with it.

If Kreider is actually dealt, it isn't until after several other pieces have already departed.

Hopeing they're just listening on kreider. Of course if an overpayment comes you got to take it. I'm just hoping he's one of the few they keep.

This shouldn't be a shock to anyone... the NYR are listening and if they indeed trade Kreider or anyone else who isn't UFA it will be because the deal was a gem.

I'm not worried about that.

I'm worried about picking 1-3 some FREAKIN how

Kreider is a 1st line player throughout the league, Buchnevich is onn his way there, Miller - who will now have 3 straight seasons of 50+ points, is not a 3rd line player. Chytil and Andersson may be 3rd line players next year, but project for 2nd line+ players. Shattenkirk is a top pairing dman for me, it is my opinion and I really don't wanna go down that rabbit hole debate. We are also about to get multiple 1st round picks (I assume) with our own being in the top 10.

No, I disagree with your question mark areas. We do need top end talent, but not in the extreme way you portray it.

Sorry, I vehemently disagree with you. If you want to win this is not the case. Kreider can play on the 1st line sure. Buchnevich as I mentioned in my post may become a 1st line RW. But we lack high end talent. If you want KZB to be your first line it’s a mediocre 1st line and you basically need an entirely new 2nd line because Hayes Miller Chytil ain’t cutting it. You point to Miller’s point totals but ignore his play, which has been bad.

Right now, I don’t want him in anything but the most complimentary of roles in my top six if I want that top six to become a contender. And as I also alluded to, one of those forwards likely has to be moved to make room for the youth plus new acquisitions/draft picks as Chytil/LA/whoever we add develop and move up the lineup.

Likewise, Shattenkirk is not a top pairing dman. He has literally never been one. If you expect him to be one here and expect the rebuild to be successful and the team to legitimately contend, you will be disappointed. Shattenkirk has always been a second pairing and PP guy. Why would he suddenly be a top pairing guy now? If you want the rebuild to be successful you have to assess your team with brutal honesty and expect players to underperform. Don’t expect Chytil to be playing top six soon. Don’t expect Shattenkirk to be a top pairing guy. We need top end talent, some of which is on ELCs if we want to contend. It’s really that simple. Team needs 2-3 new forwards, one or two of which will be NHL ready players gained in trade, and team will need two potential top pair Dmen if McDonagh is moved.

What Bobby Mac said in his podcast (only listened to the Rangers part) was that the team is testing the market for everyone outside Hank, seeing what teams will pay, and then deciding if the player is someone they're "married" to going forward.

If the FO doesn't think the player fits going forward and the price is right, they move him.

Re: Kreider, I listened to the Bobcast, and he mentioned him, but not that there was anything being discussed

The Rangers basically announced anyone is for sale. So of course these names are going to pop up. I think Kreider is here for the duration of his contract, unless Gorton is blown away.

He had the opportunity to trade him the previous two summers, and didn't because he didn't get a good offer
