If Staal isn't back by the time Holden is gone, Smith will be back here playing.

Toronto would have to give me liljegren a first (next year if they prefer) and one of kapanen Brown or at worst josh leivo

For Mcdonagh.

I like this package. kapenen is a good player now and he's only going to get better. Leivo is worthless right now, the salary retention on McDonagh should be enough for him to be thrown in. Liljegren and a 1st is a great building block. That first will be about pick #20 most likely

And McDonagh likely will have most of the teams picking in the top 10 on his no-go list, I would think.

I wasn't aware of that until you pointed it out. I suspect he'd certainly take a number of them out.

Still I don't think the Rangers should rush a trade with him on deadline day. Reading on the main boards about us getting Calvin Foote as his replacement along with a couple late 1st rounders just doesn't do enough for me. Trading players is always about leveraging teams and we still have a whole another year to work with if we have to.

On Smith, the NHL still has that 1/2 "Old Boys" 1/2 Samurai Honor Code in a lot of ways so it clearly got out that he showed up to camp out of shape. Teams wouldn't want that effort and it also means he's not coming back up the rest of the year as a way of paying his dues.

Getting a top 4 D. If the Rangers and Tampa are going to dance, that's why I'm insistent on getting Cal Foote back. Skjei will be the veteran, they'll see what they have out of the Day/Pionk/Graves/Sjalin/Reunanen (if one of those guys makes it, awesome) and get either Woo or K'Andre Miller with one of the late firsts and the Defense in 1-2 years could be Skjei/Shatty/Foote/Woo or KA Miller/one of the Hartford guys or prospects now/ADA with the chance to get an impact UFA.

Big fan of Woo. He's pretty much Skjei 2.0

Have to trade Holden for assets and I fully expect smith to be back either later or next season. Especially if Mcdonagh is gone.

No, but Corsica gives time with partner, and I'm assuming whenever he played with a right-handed shot, he's on the left.

That site always give me a hard time, I kind of stopped checking it.

As I remember, not a given accurately, wasn't that mostly with Smith on his right?

Not that I have a point other than I think Holden is better on LD.

naturalstattrick is another good resource and it doesn’t taken 15 attempts at reloading the page for the data to appear

See, in my memory (not a great resource, either), it was Smith-Holden when they played together, so I didn't count that. The 300+ minutes is the minutes he's played with Girardi, Klein, Kampfer, Shattenkirk, Clendening, McIlrath.

The Rangers traded a 2nd and 3rd for Smith. If you look at the rental market for D. Holden is one of the top D available. Hold out for 2 picks. He play both left and right.
