Someone who is offering the 4th overall pick is a team that is not contending...so why would that team make that deal? When they took can keep the pick and take their chances to draft a player of their own while continue their own Rebuild path that they have already started..

Well if some teams have been mired in lotteryville for a while, getting an actual player may be the better scenario for them. I think Edmonton really regrets not going through with the trade that had us set up to get Keller.

Yeah, I feel you. Klefbom is a guy I would consider if McD is moved. Not necessarily an exciting return for Kreids though. Edmonton’s 1st is attractive but if we make them better and they surge in the standings it could be worse than our own 1st. Never know. I still would take Draisaitl in a heartbeat. Guy has played 47% of his hockey with McDavid this year, the other 53% centering his own line but he leads the league in even strength assists and is on pace for 70 points again. He would be our captain and face of the franchise immediately after Hank’s tenure.

Klefbom is a really great player when he's on his game, but he's been bad this year. Hard to know if last year was a fluke or not. That being said, the Oilers have some cap considerations to make and really need to make a run at the playoffs next season or Chia is probably gone. Draisaitl needs to slot in at center, but they have no viable winger for McDavid. RNH has a big contract. They'll probably move RNH long before they move Draisaitl.

Oilers fans have been talking about Klefbom this year like he's Girardi

Personal guess? Yes.

Defenseman of his caliber don't often find their way to market, especially with such a favorable contract. I think someone close will pay that "astronomical" price.

I also wouldn't be surprised if the Rangers are willing to settle for merely a "huge" return rather than "astronomical"

You ask for a lot at first, why not? If someone bites then great, if not you see if offers come in to something you still find acceptable

I wonder how long the Rangers wait on deals...there are still other options out there so you don't want to drive teams away to other options, but things might also get a bit more desperate as time goes on...

Florida, Montreal, Carolina, and Edmonton are all teams with lottery picks right now who are not supposed to be there. All of those teams expected to be competing for a playoff spot, so there could certainly be interest from some of them in getting an established player back for their pick. Hell, even Arizona and Buffalo are supposed to be climbing the ladder out of the basement right now instead of looking at finishing dead last in the league.

The Rangers supposedly were close to a deal for Edmonton's 4th overall pick in 2016. They could try and deal it again.

There is a part of me that believes they are closer to some deals then we may believe. Or, they may already have some done. Sometimes deals are done for a few days before they get announced.

Main boards are ridiculous so the main thought is that Jack Johnson get a first rounder but Rick Nash is only worth a conditional second

My exact thought after watching press conference. Very unusual to discuss rebuild to the fans. That says to me its Zuke and Mac and yes its further along than just feelers.

That's all fine and dandy. They can have JT Miller.

Finding a player of Kreider's caliber would be very difficult to do moving forward.

I think they probably have a solid feel for the market, hence the announcement now instead of a "surprise!" moment at the deadline or leading up to it. I think at least one non-rental player is going to go before the deadline.

I can see Stevie Y getting ahead of the frenzy. Seems like a 4D chess kinda guy.

Because Kreider is a 26 year old veteran with great character. He can be a leader on that young team. I hear what you’re saying though. It makes a ton of sense.

people are still hung up on Nash's contract and that he's not a $7.8 mill player anymore.

Doesn't matter when that contract is expiring and the Rangers can retain salary in a trade.

No not surprised. Mainly because people are completely under valuing Rick Nash, because we'll he is Rick Nash and a ranger .

Despite his recent stretch the main story on him this year is his struggles leading to where we are... on top of that he’s regarded as a playoff choker

Don't care if they lose. In fact, my 5 preferred Metro playoff teams would be Washington, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Carolina, Philadelphia. **** the Islanders and Devils.
i just don't want them to have a decent pick in this draft is all i know its suppose to be a pretty talented draft id just like to be one of the teams that lands a stellar pick out of the metro

I'd have no issue with both teams getting in and proceeding to get shat on in the 1st round.

Which is how it looks like it'd play out if they both get in.
