Finishing last would be great. Jack Hughes could do wonders for this franchise.

Adding Hughes, Kravtsov, Lias, and Hajek next season would have us up there with the Leafs young talent. Even with Hayes leaving, this is a hell of an offense

Kravtsov-Hughes-Zucc
Kreider-Zib-Buch
Chytil-Howden-Fast
Lettieri-Andersson-Namestnikov

Edit2: I completely forgot Vesey and Spooner exist while thinking about this offense. There’s a ton of depth here.

Hahahaha. This never gets old.

Duclair looking ok so far in columbus. Maybe we should have signed him and started Chytil in Hartford until one of the vets were moved.

As much as Staal should have say based on the first three games, he actually mostly played well last night.

marc staal = fixture

watching him last night was just painful.

its gonna be a carousel for those guys. in and out of the lineup while staal gets a pass.

skjei. smith. staal. the only guys who dress every night.

pionk is next guy up for the firing squad.

Staal is basically the de facto captain. He is not wearing the C but he is the only player wearing an A for both home and away games.

AV had Glass. Quinn has Staal.

For me, I would go with this 6 D and let it ride. how they pair them doesn't matter.

Skjei-Shatty
Smith-Pionk
Claesson-ADA

I'm not a big intangibles guy, but it's naive to think it isn't a factor at all with Staal. It's a really young and inexperienced team, with a coach to match. These kids need to learn just as much off the ice as they do on the ice -getting used to the grind of 82 games, travel schedule, conditioning, etc. Those are things Quinn is probably leaning on Staal for. But at some point, his play is so bad he's gotta sit.

With McQuaid, suffling kids in and out of the lineup to make him a mainstay to build up his trade value in hopes of a 3rd/4th round pick is insanely overthinking a rebuild/asset management. Finding out if ADA and/or Pionk are part of the team's future is much more important than a late pick to me. They're not 19 - they need to play and perform now.

Reactions: Off Sides
In a vacuum its not that big of a deal to play Staal. The problem is that somebody has to be his partner.

Pionk is a player that is still trying to find his footing in the NHL and has to carry a terrible defensive partner.

Pionk is being set up to fail.

Quinn is running the risk of losing ADA mentally. I like the kid. Stop jerking him around. Let him play. Same with Chytl. This season should be all about letting your young talented guys play as much as possible to get a handle on what they have moving forward.

No more benching of ADA (who is vastly superior to Pionk by the way)

No more Chytl on the fourth line. Give him PP minutes with Buchnevich and play him 16-19 minutes per game.

No he isn't.

ADA knows the deal. hes not in hartford. hes stoked for that alone. hes played well and he knows it.

hes young and staal is a vet and defacto captain.

staal is here by default only. ADA's time will be split with pionk.

eventually, staals minutes will be limited, the zones starts controlled and the "mysterious injury days off" will seem necessary.

the eye test and the metrics will play it out.

there isnt anything marc staal does better than any other dman on the roster. in fact, he does most things worse.
