He’s significantly better than all our defenseman not named Fox

Lol no he isn’t.

He’s a dumb player being overhyped because he’s big and scored a few goals in the playoffs that should never go in at this level.

Vancouver was hell bent on keeping him off the ice against other teams top players at ES. It should tell you something when they were matching Tyler Myers on McDavid and not Z.

Yall should know by now that if a player had the Jovo buzz, they’re bad.

Actual Cap Hit = average yearly cap hit X (1 - (state income tax rate on date of signing / 2))

Divide tax rate by two since only half the games are guaranteed to be played in state.

Not winning a cup that way but go off Larry. I fail to see the logic in the Rangers going into the season with a big fat question mark at 2RW for the *checks notes* 5th straight year. It’s time to get serious. If Drury is content with standing pat with in house solution at all our problem areas he should be updating his resume for when Buffalo hires him.

That was more a reflection of my thoughts on our current group of Dmen

Neither did Darnell Nurse.

(edit) - maybe 6 will get it done.
Nurse is overpaid, but he has 121 more points in 2 less games. He was also 3 years younger when he signed that contract than Zadorov is now.

There's no way Zadorov jumps from 3.75 mil to 7 mil. Even 6 mil is a stretch. What has he done to earn that much of a raise? He's the same player he was 2 years ago when he was UFA the first time.

Vancouver offered him 4.5 mil for 4 or 5 years. He turned it down, but I think that's a pretty good gauge of how much he is likely to get on the open market. Maybe another team will be willing to give him a bit more money and/or term, but the AAV will almost certainly be under 6.

Looks like Larry hasn’t been on HF too much since the loss to FLA….
It’s nice that he’s pumping Othmann, but where’s the love for Berard? Hes prob a bit further along..
And Larry please, when you come back on and read this, can you write an article about splitting kreids/zibby 5 v 5 and just keep them together on PK, maybe PP only….
personally, I’d love to zibby between 2 youngsters. Going on 2 years now, he’s more of a pass first C…. Sure if he’s got time/open ice he’ll load up his slapper, but too much play with Panarin on the PP has him looking to make tic/tac/toe pretty passes more often then not. Similar to how it rubbed off on strome with no structure in place…
Being the oldest vet on the line might force Zibby to rise to the occasion a bit and at least be a leader in that role.
Give me

Cuylle-Zibby-Berard/Othmann in camp… and 10 or so games to start the year like that.
Cuylle provides size/board work/physical play and a sneaky good shot

Either Othmann/Berard are guys that buzz around and play with edge and talent. They go to the right places on the ice to score.
Berard is a bit more polished, Othmann already has a big time NHL shot, and he loves using it.

Whichever one wins a spot in camp gets deployed with Zibby/cuylle.

Don’t name or number the lines if it makes you feel better

Panarin-Tro-Laf
Cuylle-Zibby- Berard/Othmann
Kreider-Chytil-Berard/Othmann/Vet UFA?
Goodrow-Edstrom-Vesey/Rempe

Optimum line up imo

Panarin-Tro-Laf
Cuylle-Zibby-Berard/othmann
Kreider-Stephenson—Chytil
Goodrow-Edstrom-Rempe/Vesey

Shift chytil to wing for good….
Sign Stephenson to a Trochek deal.
That’s your top 3 Cs for the next 3-4 years. Stephenson is a 2X cup winner with 2 diff teams. Adds speed and talent in the middle.( that’s depth)
Kakko traded for draft capital
Berard/Othmann whoever doesn’t make it is injury call up. Brodzinski too.

That line up is solid and allows Lavi to run the top 9 pretty evenly. Whichever line is going the best on any given night, ride/reward them with a bit more time.
That 4th line should be 8-12 mins a night as well…
Keep everyone more fresh with no glaring holes

Berard is a better fit for that K-Z line but I think that shoehorning the duo together and looking for a fit is just the wrong way to go about it.

Berard can play anywhere in the top 9 though. If he’s given an honest shot in camp I think he’ll show well but if it took this organization nearly half a decade to properly deploy a 1OA I don’t have much hope there.

Unless he’s friends with Adam Fox. Then he’ll probably replace Panarin on the PP.

Zegras is 22 and is HARDLY even close to a finished product. Mika is declining.

A 20 and 21 year old who scored 60+ points on a garbage team “sucks”.

Only took Kreider till he was 30 to hit 60 points. Let that sink in.
Zegras is 23, just like Kakko who we’ve decided “is what he is.” Zegras scored 8 whole more points off of the powerplay, which he wouldn’t see here, than Kakko last year and brings nothing else. He’s the ultimate perimeter player and has zero defense. But fans of our team love him. Wanted to trade Laf+ for him as recently as preseason. He’s flashy, which is fun, but I would not bet on him ever being anywhere as good as Zibanejad. Could he explode? Sure. Or implode, as he was doing this year, when he wasn’t getting pp1 or top line minutes, before he got hurt. He’s a big gamble and I personally wouldn’t risk much on it. He’s not the solution to our playoff woes. Not even close.

He's everything people already complain about with our top guys.

Wanting to move on from Mika and replace him with Zegras is classic "grass is greener" roster building. He's a worse Mika.
Exactly.

Additional complication for the coming year: They will need to come into camp with 4 centers who can play top 9 minutes because they're not gonna know for years if Chytil's head will explode.

If they don't get a bona fide good NHL level center, it's gonna be Goodrow by necessity. Board should prepare itself mentally for that. Dude is not getting traded unless a Cirelli type gets acquired first.

Exactly.
I'm not fan of his, nor under any illusion that Zegras would fix any of the issues that this team currently has, but if he's offered for Kakko 1 for 1, you make that deal in half a heartbeat. Even if it's just to flip him to another team.

The NHL salary cap projections were $87.675M in 24-25 and $92,058,750 in 25-26. The NHL had a good year and the cap increased to $88M for 24-25. The 25-26 number should be higher. Utah is entering the league. Arizona was the money pit. Utah will actually sell tickets.

Any increase for 25-26 will help the Rangers. Igor's extension. Lafreniere's extension. If he has a bigger year next year and/with Laviolette giving him first unit PP minutes, the Rangers are looking $8.5M per. I have seen people on here and on X say the Rangers should offer him $5M-$6M. Why would Lafreniere take that?

$97M in 26-27 before the CBA expires. Bettman and Walsh seem to have a good relationship. They will get a new CBA done before it expires. Panarin's money will be off the books. Let him play out his contract.
I think NYR should offer Laf an 8mx8yr extension this summer. It would take him to 31. Who knows, he might take it… I’d prob even offer him up to 9m to lock him up now.

They both had bad/injury seasons and who knows, maybe they both flourish with the change of scenery. So I could see that.
My point is simply that Zegras is not what we actually need and certainly can’t replace Mika.

No questions asked.
Zergas contract is a tough pill to swallow, but unlike Kakko he’s got attitude/swagger on offense to produce.
Yes he has warts. Yes he needs to add some bulk and learn to be responsible defensively. But he’s the type of play I take a chance on…
Like Fox, another local kid and rangers fan. So far this kid has only known what it take to play for a loser.
A team full of youth that had no intention of even trying to make the postseason.
You get a kid with his talent off that squad and on to a yearly contender like the rangers and surround him with talented hardworking guys, I wouldn’t be surprised if it has a major positive outcome on his game.
Practicing/playing for a solid coach/solid vets as role models etc

If it were me, I’d roll the dice and take him… you just have to make sure salary wise it doesn’t cripple you when other guys need raises.
