If Chris Kreider and Mika Zibanejad return as linemates next camp, I’d be all for giving the first opportunity to Brennan Othmann to ride shotgun on their right wing, and unless it became apparent early that it would not work, the opportunity would be an extended one.

EF had the $88M cap number yesterday. The $92,058,750 number for 25-26 should be higher.

Assuming no one is moved, gave Kakko 1 year $2.75M and Schneider 2 years $2.25M, leaves about $5.8M to get a RW and a 1LD, whether Lindgren or someone else. Brodz Mackey Rempe as extras. Definitely workable

Cap going up is big. 4 biggest markets in the conference final. Drury can play in the UFA market imo. Anyone who can be a factor through Laf’s prime is on the table imo. Stammer Marchessault Guentzel Reinhart going to get paid. i bet one of em is a Ranger somehow. Zadarov for his faults also seems like a good fit. Can take the body and skate the puck up. Hopefully an exciting offseason..

His contract only ends at the same time because 7 was the max they could have given a UFA that they didn’t have the year before.

I don’t know that he showed great leadership but he definitely had a positive impact on Laf this year. I don’t think he’s the only player in the league who can and would do that though.

Laf really drove that line in the playoffs though and especially when Panarin was a non factor . Panarin isn’t at the top of my list of guys to move on from (if you don’t fix the D, there’s no point in doing anything) but I’d love it if they replaced Panarin with Guentzel and used Panarin’s return to fill one of those D spots (plus other pieces.)

There’s really no reason to move on from Bread with him only having 2 years left. There’s a 0% chance we can make the moves to be a better team next year if we subtract Panarin. Your other points are all very well taken. I like the Drury didn’t bail out Panarin and Mika in the presser. They and the team need better players collectively but they also need to show more the deeper we go in the playoffs.

Zadorov is gonna get overpaid and then regress what he always was a 3rd pair d.

Zadorov doesn’t make sense as he won’t fit in this system where they play zone in the neutral zone.

Ideally, the Rangers need a player who is mobile and able to retrieve pucks quickly and move it effectively on all three pairings. The other partner should be someone who skates well and is ideally bigger with their reach. They have Fox. Jones will be on another pairing. They need someone on that 2nd pairing to move the retrieve the puck and they need a bigger player on the Fox pairing.

Miller solves the Fox pairing issue. Miller pressures the puck in the neutral zone and Fox sits back.

On that 2nd pairing they can use Schneider as the pressure but then their LD needs to be someone who moves the puck effectively. Or, ideally, they pair him with Jones and Jones is that guy.

If that’s the plan they need a guy who has a long reach and skates well and then someone who moves the puck effectively and skates well. Dillon-Roy

Like, the regular people at work who kind of casually follow the Rangers always say to me "they're too finesse."

And you could say that, but it's a canned response. They said that about the 2014 Rangers. The 2014 Rangers were the hardest working team in the league and bullied teams much bigger than them.

You know it's a canned response because they won't move players who are guilty of that criticism. All the basic bitches love Mika.
such a lame sports trope. From a young age we’re taught that when we’re not scoring it’s because we’re trying to be “too cute” and that simplifying things makes it easier to score. Somehow it’s never that it’s not pretty enough

Skill and stiff play go together 9 times out of 10 anyway. Again, 2014 Rangers.

If the plan is to trade a 1st for Fowler just sign Skjei for nothing. I’d say Skjei is actually better.

I wonder if Drury and his team are eyeing next years UFA crop of d-men. Chychrun, Theodore, Hedman, Slavin, Middleton, Provorov, Gavrikov. Some will re-sign but I’m guessing 2-3 make it to UFA

Zegras is a clear downgrade from Mika. Offensively and ESPECIALLY defensively and he’s not built for the playoffs. He’s a complimentary piece. Why do you think awful ANA is listening on him?
Zegras is 22 and is HARDLY even close to a finished product. Mika is declining.

Zegras sucks
A 20 and 21 year old who scored 60+ points on a garbage team “sucks”.

Only took Kreider till he was 30 to hit 60 points. Let that sink in.

Theodore, whether or not he shakes loose there I have no idea. Vegas is elite at cap shenanigans but if they want to keep JAM someone has to leave. I wouldn't want Hague anyway, hes not good.

Martinez is a UFA btw so he can be had as he won't be returning to Vegas. Not advocating this btw, he is not and has never been top pair quality.

I get the reservations with Chychrun but I'd rather have 60 games of him than 82 games of Lindgren, who isn't exactly the pillar of durability either.
If chychrun has this much trouble staying healthy in the regular season then how the hell is he going to survive playoff hockey? Serious question. Lindgren has shown a willingness to play while being gorilla taped together. Chychrun has a bit of a history to him that indicates different.

Mika had a career year the season before this one. Let's see another season before declaring Mika is declining. We have no idea what he's dealing with physically or personally and having a new baby is a challenge no matter how old you are.

Can we get those two a decent right wing, too? Kakko, Ros, Vesey, Goodrow, Wheeler, etc... are not exactly a whose who of 1st line RW's.

The same people who complain the most are the ones who most want Zegras. Twilight Zone.

Zegras is not an, or the, answer.
