It’s almost as if the rangers refuse to have any valuable assets. Sign him to a 3 year deal at a good cap hit and worse case deal the guy and get something in return.

I'm dying

Does anyone think that limiting Mika and Kreider’s time on the PK would actually keep them more fresh and help their scoring 5 on 5?

Just a thought. Maybe the Rangers need to cut ice time this season on certain players to keep them fresh.

I there a spot in the lineup for Brennan Othmann?

I was thinking they would move off of Kaapo Kakko and that would have opened the spot up.

Rangers never let trade their UFA unless they are rebuilding. They’ll let Lindgren walk. They done this with Brian Boyle, Brandon Prust and other to be UFA while being a playoff team

YES

Teams going into the playoffs don't trade defensemen for picks for the obvious reason that a future draft pick isn't going to help you win playoff games/series in the now. If Lindgren or Trouba move at all during the season it's because we've found another defenseman to replace them and if that's the case you also want that defensemen to at least be almost as good as who they're replacing and not finding his way as most rookie NHL D have to do.

Teams that trade vets for picks at the deadline tend to be the teams that aren't going to make the playoffs and very often those are players whose contracts are expiring.

There's lots of teams they can make a deal with, he can threaten to sit out but that's not happening. I just don't see how after them having a deal to ship him out that he walks in the dressingroom like George costanza and pretends nothing happened. Does he wanna play 3rd pair and damage his next contract, or does he finally decide that there's players all over the league living in different cities than their families. He doesn't have a full ntc, he hasn't earned the right to block anything except the teams he submitted

You need a 3rd pair dman to replace him, it's not hard to find that guy.
The plan may be to let Trouba play this season or up to the TDL and then move him.

Doesn't have to be a ufa though, I mean you aren't handing over Perrault for a 3rd pair d or anything. You could probably move a b or c prospect and or picks for one.

We're a little low on prospects and 2nds/3rds and then you've got the cap issues to consider.

Sticking with him for another year, as shitty as it is, is the best thing to do besides the obvious trade that didn't happen

Despite their faults, Rangers are still going to win the Metro
The rest of the teams stink. Carolina is worse. The Devils should be better. The Caps have made some moves. PLD. Chychrun. Thompson who will share the net with Lindgren. The Islanders are the same team. Duclair is their only addition. The Flyers had good first half last season. Their goaltenders are shaky. Michkov will be there. Same team from last season. Farabee was supposedly on the outs. They couldn’t find a deal for him. Pittsburgh stinks. Third straight season with no playoffs. Crosby hasn’t signed the extension. Columbus is still rebuilding.

I don't know how they ever recovered from not getting a 6th round pick for 5 goal scoring Brandon Prust at the 2012 deadline.

Matthew Robertson. This training camp is his opportunity. Michael Sauer was drafted in the 2nd round in 2005. He could not crack the Rangers lineup until his 4th pro year. Sauer outplayed Ryan McDonagh in training camp in 2010 to make the Rangers roster. Five years after being drafted. Robertson was selected in the 2nd round in 2019. Five years. 2024.

Zac Jones is Robertson's main competition on the left side. The Rangers don't really have a 7th D. Ruhwedel can be sent to the AHL. Bigger body on D. The Rangers desperately need size on D. Unless Drury has a deal brewing for a D which involves a roster player making decent money, the Rangers don't have room for a significant addition.

The Rangers could have a roster with 13/7/2 and $1.3M-$1.4M in cap space which accrues to $5.85M-$6.3M in space at trade deadline day assuming no injuries during the season. Multiply the number by 4.5.
