Yes but wouldn’t that be the scenario with Jones? He’s unlikely to start the playoffs but may play in some games?
Once Trouba is back, there will be an open competition for that 6th D with Ruhwedel and Jones.

The question that I have is would Lavi go 4 RHD and which one would move over? Something tells me that he may try Trouba with Fox when he gets back.

Ruhwedel kills penalties and that was Lindgren's #1 responsibility. That may hurt Jones when suiting up for R1G1.

Is it coincidence that all the players people have whined about all year are hurt. Trouba, Wheeler, and now Lindgren. I guess Goodrow should watch his back. This team can't afford any more D injuries. I don't know much about the guy they just got from Pitt. Can he play at all?
No one had a bad word to say about Chytil tho.

I think its more of a coincidence that after they dimped Jim Ramsey this season we have more bad injuries than the past 5 combined

This is Jones audition for next season. Let’s see what he does with it.

If he can’t play playoff hockey, he won’t be here next season anyway. Team has looked better with him in the lineup though. Period. Up to him to win a job. Rooting for him to do so.

Curious to see if he keeps Miller and Schneider together (I probably would at first) but if not we will probably be getting a dose of Miller and Fox. So a lot is going to be on display here

I’m wrapping Mika and Kreider in bubble wrap then. :sarcasm:

his size? he's the same size as Lindgren. "Zac Jones is too small to play playoff hockey" is nonsense. did you watch Florida last year? Montour and Forsling were both excellent and they're the same size as Jones.
When talking about size in the NHL, it isn't defined as "height" on paper.
1. They're not the same height or weight.
2. Jones has a very light lower body half (have you seen his legs?) and isn't as grounded as some other players. So he's easy to knock off the puck in the board battles.
3. He would get absolutely wrecked if he engaged in the way Lindgren does, and we've seen what happens to Lindgren, often.

Jones is much better and moving the puck and using his edges to gain some space between him and the attacking player. That's where he's going to excel. In the playoffs, if that continues and we don't allow teams to pressure us, battling the night in our zone, then it shouldn't be much of a concern. However, if we buckle when the game gets tight and our players move the puck backwards like they enjoy doing, it may become a problem. Play stupid games. Win stupid prizes.

I come home to my Roster Building Thread with a gleeful face ready to hear joy from all about the return of our long lost boy Mattius Rempius.

Yet, here I am, dismayed, by the shitposting directed towards our beloved @bernmeister

For shame, the lot of you

P.S. Bern, stop putting my son Gabriel in trade proposals
1. thanks to you and @Hunter Gathers for the love. It is appreciated and nice to see the cavalry showed up!

A deeper dive on that another time.

As to the bold, I hear you. Kreider has been like a son in my props/posts, and thankfully I was correct as to we should keep long term; he may retire a Ranger.

Other than potential deficit w/skating being ordinary-ish and slightly subpar for NHL level [not atrociously bad like LaF was originally], there do not appear to be any holes in his game, at least as we can see so far.

Therefore, if we 'got stuck' w/your boy, I'd consider it most fortunate.
And, as I have considered myself blessed to have the Archangel Gabriel inspire my carol Christmas Day [described as some as the Bohemian Rhapsody of Yuletide songs], I am further loathe to make any disconnect.

But mindful our overall obligation is to help our beloved Rs, and mindful of the need to alleviate the stupidity of win now rentals in recent years, I ask you to consider the following.

I am not saying let's dump Per.
I am talking sell high to a Canadian based team, in this case Habs, who may well consider top top top $.

Remember that as part of a larger package I am seeking Gabe for Reinbacher, who is not chopped liver.

Rein
- was like 5OA
- is a righty RD which is not only urgent for us but is league wide in short supply and esp the best ones
- projects to be Brian Leetch lite.
- as such, could help us w/Fox's next deal 5 seasons after this
(if we have no substitute he fully controls all the shots; if we have Rein to step in as 1RD by then, we can ask Fox to do a Hedman and, given he already had full pop at 9.5 per, do his next deal at 6-7 per. Howev, to be in that position of strength, you have to first acquire Rein.)

Unless we go smaller and do LaF for Rein +, which is a separate analysis of pros and cons, shoe on the other foot, not sure I see MON sending us Rein.

Look forward to yr feedback and pls advise if I am missing something and there is an alternate route here for us to consider

Again
thanks and all best.

I remember when @Hunter Gathers was Jonathan the wizard, and you are one of the few who is more senior than this old man. (Don't make me go through the F Troop routine -- what old man, why you sir, you're the old man! Pt is, we geezers gotta stick together.)

accurate and kudos for the detailed assessment
Jones is not bad
but he is a luxury as he is Fox lite, and we are not moving Fox, AND we need
1) pref complete def Ds
but if a choice
2) those who clear the crease, check guys off the puck

Tony D has 3 problems imo.

1. He acts like an idiot at times.

2. He was pretty darn good in 2 seasons but he has played 8 seasons.

3. The frequency of him acting badly is probably greater than the frequency of him having a really good season.
And he is terrible defensively.

It is pretty clearly going to be

Gustafsson Fox
Miller Trouba
Jones Schneider

Assuming Lindgren is out. Jones is not going to be on the top pairing. Gus has already filled in there a couple of times. Miller Trouba are almost always together.

If Ruhwedel plays it would likely just be for Jones on the third pairing

Additionally, people love to bash Trouba but the Schneider/Miller pair has performed significantly worse.

bern

Trading Laf for an unproven rookie now, albeit a highly regarded one is idiotic Bern.
- Laf is 1st NYR 1OA in like 100 years
- he’s finally putting it altogether and becoming the player they envisioned when they drafted him
- you throw away 3 years of developmental work and hard earned playoff experience for a guy who hasn’t played a minute in the NHL….
- Laf is 22. By 24-25 he should be a legit 2-way stud and a fixture on the PP.

If Reinbacher doesn’t look like Makar or leech junior real fast, the GM loses his job and credibility.

You’re basically worried about a salary increase just to have another guy on an ELC that’s a ?
Does it take Rein 2-3 years to establish himself in the top 6??? Longer???

No one is saying adding reinbacher is a bad idea. What you’re willing to give up to get him here is madness not foresight.

Young guys that can produce especially on the big stage in NY are worth more then maybes every time…

You seem to want a senators or a Sabres model of them being filled of youth, ELCs, etc
Both have been declaring themselves almost dynasties going on 3 years now. Neither has/none of their youth has played 1 game of playoff hockey
