let's wait maybe until actual games are played. These lines might not even be the same the next time they practice. The lineup could be compeltely different by the end of October

I guess I'm just not one to want to freak out all the time but maybe that's getting more rare on the internet
Thank you. I'm reading these posts and asking myself if the team announced the starting lineup.

It's been pretty unanimous that ADA had a good camp. I find it hard to believe the team ignores that and scratches him over some of these options.

A part of AV's downfall was his inability to develop or build confidence. I think another part was his inability to manage his work horses over the course of the marathon. Girardi could have stayed with reduced minutes and been serviceable. Maybe that opens the door for a Staal buyout. There was a plan in girardi's last season here to spell him more, especially on back to backs. AV refused quite early and that factored into the buyout. Take away his toys. I think Dan's "bounceback" season created some resentment toward AV and it factored into his dismissal.

So I choose to think logically. The goals are to develop young players, convert some players into future assets, and perhaps manage guys like Staal with fewer games. I don't see how D'Angelo sitting meshes with that.

I don't think Namestnikov vaguely has the skills to be a top line C and I'm not even as down on him as most.

I think he has the skills to be a middle six winger if he can find a comfort level but he so far has looked uncomfortable up and down the lineup in NY
I think everyone should forget he could play C, he’s a winger and hopefully we see his skill on display more consistently. Get him on the second pp unit so he can put up some points and he might have some trade value. He shows flashes of really nice talent but disappears completely for stretches far too often.

The Rangers felt Howden is better suited in the 4th line role because they can use him on the PK.

In the training camp thread, we discussed the Rangers center ice situation. The Rangers didn't want to go with three young centers and that's why Hayes wasn't traded three months ago.

The 49ers started three rookies in their secondary and they won the Super Bowl that season. 1981.

Ronnie Lott
Eric Wright
Carlton Williamson

The other member of the secondary was Dwight Hicks who was only in his 2nd season.

The Rangers are "rebuilding".

If we look like this in 2 years and upgrade the D with some current assets- we could be good.

A combination of Hayes, Zucc, Names/Spooner, ADA, Smith and/or Shatty should return something nicer on D I would think. Plus picks. I think Lindgren will be an NHL player too

I think Lias had one of the best camps out of all of the prospects, but I also believe that's why he went straight to the AHL. My speculation is that they want to create a winning environment in the AHL this season, and eventually Howden and Chytil end up there as well, but they wanted to evaluate them in the NHL for a few more games since they both had a very up and down camp. Let all of the kids go to the AHL and have a shot at winning the Calder, or at least play top minutes in a winning environment. Nothing good is going to happen at the NHL level this year.

By years end I’m sure they want to move Staal , McQuaid, Hayes and sadly Zuc. Get more picks and prospects . Will open up spots for kids .

The vets are just allowing the kids to develop in the AHL which is likely for the best

The Rangers keeping one player you didnt want them to keep makes you bug out like this?

Like, we get it, keeping Hayes means we won’t have three rookie centers getting wrecked every night, OH NO! That means we’re not actually “rebuilding”.

The problem is that we have a ton of bad contracts on the blueline.

Sometimes you get what you deserve. We have another vet heading north of 30 on a long term deal, we don’t want to trade him because it would give us a bad rep in relation to other UFAs. Girardi bought out. Staal. Smith, Shatty can still play, but for how long? McQuaid? I can’t fault the McQuaid trade really. You ‘can’t’ enter a season with three identical player type at RD. But ADA should play, he deserved a spot. What is Shatty doing that is so great, passing the puck along to Ziba. But sure he is the best PPQB option, no denying that. But aren’t we rebuilding?

One Cup since 1940. Maybe there is a reason for that? We deal the guys that are heart and soul Rangers but stay loyal to the UFA that signed here and showed up bottom 2 in shape for camp in competition with Fat Smith.

Brooks isn’t afraid to stir things up. He has not once mentioned that Shatty should be an option for Gorton to move. It would get a lot of clicks. Why? Because it’s ‘unthinkable’, don’t do everything to accomodate an expensive UFA signing? It’s beyond imagination. Screw the kid. One Cup in 78 years...
I could not give less of a sh*t if UFAs don’t want to come here. In fact, I hope they don’t. In most cases, they are extremely overpaid and past their prime. Besides, teams sometimes trade the UFA they signed a year or two after signing them. It happens, but I don’t think it necessarily deters future UFAs from signing as much as we think it does, especially if there is a good reason the player was traded.

I like those desperate UFAs that are willing to sign 1 year contracts and will play hard. see Grabner, Pouiliot, etc.

This team is carrying two centers with less than 10 games or combined NHL experience, two defenseman who have never played a full NHL season, a rookie goalie and and a third rookie center/wing.

We can disagree about which rookies should be included in that tally, but I really don’t know if we’re stopping to consider just how inexperienced this roster is.

Namestnikov, Vesey, Claesson, Beleskey, Smith, maybe Shattenkirk and Spooner.

I can tell when my kids are ready for bed because they start getting moody and almost look as if they want to be grounded.

In the same vein, it’ll be a miracle if certain people don’t get themselves banned before this season is up.

I feel for the mods.

The rebuild sounds great until you're going through it. Maybe a lot of these guys have never watched a terrible team or maybe I'm just getting older, but I can't get upset about who made opening night roster or what the lines were in this practice. In fact I'm not sure I can get upset about this rebuild until I see how the recent draft picks pan out which is years from now.

There's a big picture and today's lines are a dot of paint in that picture. Like I said maybe I'm just getting older but there's a whole lot more to get worked up about than line combos. Personally, I'm excited for this year and the future.

This rebuild is going to be a lot harder than people might realize, even if it ultimately works. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

The lengths people will go to to spin the Andersson demotion is extremely amusing.

He had a great first preseason game but faded quickly. Very disappointing showing. Didn’t have the puck on his stick enough which has been a theme.

He is 19/20 years old, it’s not the end of the world. But the rationalization is over the top.

I dunno, for me his camp was better than some guys who are on the roster. I don’t really view it as a situation where he wouldn’t have belonged on the team. He’s just not on it.

They dont wanna waste Lias development playing him on the 4th line, Howden's future with the Rangers is probably on the 4th line, behind Zibanejad, Lias, Chytil and maybe our next 1st round pick, and his contract doesnt slide.
It's a no brainer, even more when they want try Chytil at center first.

Not sure the Rangers view Howden as their fourth line center of the future.

Part of me thinks we’re all probably reading a bit too much into some of this.

I think the Rangers are interesting in giving each kid learning opportunities right now and aren’t locked into any particular designations at this point.
